Well most of us know what a champion is, someone/thing who saves the world.

Well in Season6 Finale Xander does save the world by stopping Willow when she went evil. If it werent for him she wouldve raised that hell statue thingy fully and do evil evil things like bringing the world to the end so is he or isnt he?
 
I love Xander, he's my favorite character on BTVS, but I gotta say, he isn't a champion. I love him, he's a hero, he's a great guy, but he's not a champion. I just feel like champions have to be mythic style heroes, and they gotta have powers. He certainly has many qualities in common with a champion, he has all the bravery, heart and wisdom needed, and he is without a doubt, a hero. But not a champion.
 
Although the use of the word "champion" in the Buffyverse has majorly annoyed me, I really think it should be applied to Xander. He's not the mythical, shining knight hero that Angel (but not Spike! not Spike!) may be, but he's not special...he's extraordinary. He didn't just save the world in Grave - he's Buffy's strength. She wouldn't have made it this far without him. Even though I'd like it not to happen, I could picture Buffy and Willow going seperate ways in the future. But I could never imagine Buffy and Xander being apart.
 
i voted yes.he is a wonderful guy.i know he doenst have the super strength,...but what he does have is the heart of a champion(literally it sounds gross..eww)
 
Yes. He has saved the world in one form or another a bunch of times...

S1: If he hadn't given Buffy CPR she wouldn't have survived to kick the masters butt and we all saw how THAT turned out...(The Wish)

S2: Who knows...if he had told Buffy that Willow was going to restore Angels soul she might have delayed just long enough to get herself killed...

S3: He stoped the zombies in the Zeppo from blowing up the school and killing the scoobies who were the only ones capable of fighting back the hellmouthy demons...hence...he saved the world...and then he helped a lot at the end and all...

S4: He was the HEART of the super Buffy...VERY important part I might add...😛

S5: Well...he helped still...

S6: Hey, he really DID save the world! (And not just in some 6 degrees to Kevin Bacon sorta way!)

S7: COME ON! THE DUDE LOST HIS FREGGIN' EYE! LOL!!! And he still kept fightin'!!!

Hell, I think he's saved Buffy's butt more than Angel even...but yeah. I think he's a qualified Champion of the human variety...
 
Off course he is, he has been fighting on the side of good for seven years now. Even though he hasn't got the same strenght as Angel and Spike, he has accomplished just as much, he's a real hero, a real champion!
 
Had a think about this after my previous post (seriously slow day at work today 😉)

Season 7 - if nothing else, his speech to Dawn at the end of "Potential" qualifies him IMO. It almost had me in tears (again!) when the BBC showed it for the first time last week (as an aside, it's really disappointing that they've no late nite showing as the eps so far have been v heavily cut - good job I watched on Sky which didn't censor so much).
But given the overwhelming evidence presented by m' learned friend Rayne above I think the case is proven beyond all reasonable doubt (is that the correct criterion lawyer chick Faith? or is it "the balance of probabilities"?🙂)
 
I think Xander is more of a champion than Buffy and Angel..
They have super powers and a calling and all this backing behind them, but Xan does it cause it is right. What is more dignified than that? Saving the world, sacrificing yourself many times over for your friends, no powers or rewards. He's only human and yet he fights the good fight, and everything Rayne pointed out is true. So I say a big YES Xander is a Champion!
 
I totally agree with u Faithy, it's the only one who is entirely "normal" he has so much powerful ppl around, he always tries to do his best with only human power, & so, it's really amazing.

I've always wanted to point out how much Xander has helped, he might be normal but he sure has helped a lot, so that I say makes him a champion.
 
Xander is a champion, but not the kind that is portrayed on the Buffyverse.

We've seen only two 'champions' (although only one is a champion in my book because I am a Spike fan).... now these champions have savedthe world mystically and somewhat only for the greater good of helping themselves with the benefit of saving humanity as well.
(do you guys get what I mean? Like Angel and Spike really only save the world because their souls push them in that direction)

But Xander, (oh, sweet xander).... he saved Willow which in turned saved the world. His compassion and love for Willow is what in the end saved the world. Not his superhero strenght or his slippery soul. Just love.

So, he's a champion, just in a different, more humanistic way.
 
AMEN! And yes. Faithy said what I wanted to add about his being human making it all the more amazing. Well said!

Oh, and he totally saved Buffy's @ss in Go Fish...
 
I thinkt hat Xander is totally a Champion he may not be a increddibly strong or have super powers and be the brainy type but he has saved the world from big evil Willow and thats gotta mean something he has a great heart.

You dont have to have super strength or skill to be a champion, Xander's gone above and beyond what anyone thought, hes often overlooked, but where would buffy or the world be without him.....

Hes a very different champion than Angel or Spike, yes even though i am a Spike fan i will say that Angel is a champion, i may even argue that he is more so than Spike, well ok no i wouldnt, but Xander has had to overcome so much. Hes a champion in his own, extraordinary way.
