i noticed he got chubbier/muscular but still i love xander he is awesome and yes its completly true he is sexy 🙂

okay well not david boreanaz sexy but still 😉

he got a bit bigger but he was getting older, how could be keep that physique the whole time, its prob just coz he used 2 be really fit. I mean look at tara, she was never skiny but not fat, but no1 sed anything coz she'd always been that way.

There is a simple answer to this question. The role of Xander Harris required the actor Nicholas Brendon to, as the seasons progressed, modify his physique to give the impression that Xander, like most men, especially those in the construction field, to fall victim of a common disease called "premature middle age spread," or as those of us who suffer from it call "done lapped disease," where your belly done lapped over the waistband of your pants. Many men suffer from this mysterious syndrome, but the best explanation for its onset came from the late actor Marlon Brando, when he said, "If you had a cadillac, wouldn't you park it under a shed?"

Bahahaha. Very funny!
I am sorry but I don't think his weight gain had anything to do with him being in construction or being a carptenter. Most carpenter's and construction men are very physically fit. I have dated several. They work in the sun and sweat all day, so I don't think that is it at all. I don't think it was scripted weight gain. I think Nicholas either was abusing too much alcohol or either quit caring about working out. Trust me it is easy to do. I have to fight myself everday to walk. The rewards are great, but it gets old.

Okay, seriously? What is with these topics?

Actors get fat sometimes. It's part of being people. Stuff happens, they eat too many Krispy Kremes, whatever. David Boreanaz [aka Angel, for those who don't bother to pay attention to the difference] gained weight, so freakin' what? What matters to me is their acting ability, and if Nick Brendon is still acting like Xander and if David Boreanaz is still acting like Angel [in terms of the shows, of course] then I don't care how fat they get.

This just seems really pointless to me.

Dude... it happens. And I can't tell ya why.

It's happening to me. I weighed myself the other day. I weigh in at a grand total of 102 pounds. With shoes on. And wet hair. lol. But I'm getting older... and somehow those 102 pounds are distributed differently from my 98 pounds in college. On the down side, my face looks fatter. On the upside, I can finally fill out my tops. 🙂 Getting "puffy" where you used to be gangly is just part of getting older.

As for James Marsters, well... I'm sure he was in the gym like every day to get that season 6 body. But even that does not explain the skinnyness and general angularity of his physique. Seldom have I seen an adult be able to maintain that kind of form (much to my dismay, given that my hubby used to have that form). I'm more like Nicholas Brendon, I guess (but, you know, a chick)... I started out naturally skinny and now I'm still roughly the same weight, but, somehow, not quite so angular. Seems natural to me.

Besides, so what if he did gain weight? Like Mesektet Ra said, he was still Xander!

I know what you mean. I gained like 25 pounds since high school and I graduated two and a half years ago. I think I look better though because I used to be really scrawny but now I look normal. LOL

As for Xander, it's normal for people to gain weight. A lot of people in the Buffy and Angel cast got chubbier over the years. Angel, Cordelia (even before she got pregnant she was getting thicker), Gunn, and some others.

yeah its definately a getting older thing. My boyfriend is 28 and he's built more like how Nick was in 5,6,7. I wouldn't call my boyfriend fat at ALL though. He's just... a man you know? I think when you get close to 30 things change definitely with your body, male or female.

I dont see why he cant have a six pack and rock hard pecs like everyone else.

I don't see any problems with actors gaining weight- especially since a lot are a little too thin to begin with- it;s the reasons and how they gain weight that are the concern. I mean I rarely notice this sort of thing, but I did notice the weight increase for Nicholas Brendon and the way it was in his face mostly I think suggested a bad diet rather than 'getting older and filling out'. Though it could be a combination of both. As you get older your metabolism rate changes (It's why children and teenagers can eat anything within reason and stay the same weight) and as his metabolism has naturally gone down he hasn't changed his diet to match that, thus causing him to gain weight. Although, we also know that excessive drinking of alcohol causes weight gain too so...
But as for weight gain itself, I'm not judgy.

I was always concerned about SMG's weight though. She got skinnier and skinnier as the seasons went on. In The Body she was sat down and you could see her bones above her breasts very clearly. When I was 17/18 I started suffering from EDNOS (Fancy term for not quite anorexic, but not bullemic)- dropping down to 100lbs (which for someone of 5'4/5'5 is definitely not the healthiest BMI) so I started noticing similar signs on her. She's argued against anorexia claims, which I agree with- she's not anorexic. But she lives on soup for crying out loud. My point is I tend to be more bothered with actors losing weight rather than gaining it. And whether it was signifying an unhealthy diet or habits I don't know, but the weight Nick gained was noticeable but not overly significant.

As for the puzzle of how James Marsters kept his shape. I think he's one of those people who are just naturally skinny their whole lives. Of course he'd have to work out to get the pecs 😉, haha, but as for the over-chiseled cheek bones, I think that's genetic. I have a friend whose exactly the same. No matter how much she eats she's still as thin as Amy Acker. Which is, erm, annoying. Haha.

you truley are our mommy, (my mom was talking about how skinny buffy got over the years, and she's only on season 4 of re-watching the show all the way thru)
I think that his weight gain was the reason that he wore that god-awful ugly tan leather (?) coat so much. And speaking of weight, if anyone needed to add a few pounds, it was Sarah. She looked positively emaciated in Season 7.

Xander (NB)... fat? Are you people using insane troll logic? He GREW UP. You never really notice how BROAD his shoulders are until you see him without a shirt... which only happened a handful of times. He wasn't all skinny in the hi-school years, but he was supposed to look "boyish".... hi-schoolish. I thought he looked just fine.

Now....

....Yeah, if anything, be concerned about SMG's weight. She was so skinny during season 6 & 7 that I wondered if she had some problems with anorexia. It was sickening.

When you weigh only a little over 100 lbs like she does, the loss of just a few pounds becomes noticable very quickly

Im sure SMG appreciates everyones concerns, but, in s7 she was at her sexiest. Just coz someones skinny, dosnt mean 'anorexic'. and she didnt 'need' to put on weight either, im sure she wasnt gonna die.

(this isnt meant to be cheeky)

Okay what is this whole thing aboiut? i never noticed that SMG had lost weight.

Maybe she lost weight purposely, like Buffy was working so hard, worrying about everybody else, that she didn't have time to take care of herself. That would make sense, but if that was it, it was so subtle that you can almost miss it.
Personally I always saw Sarah as a very tiny, slight woman. I mean there is abviously a noticable weight change from season one and two but she was 18 when she started, her body changed as well as the fact that she kicked up her training for the role. I never had an issue with her weight and never would have called her emancipated. In the latter seasons on Buffy she was often shooting films as well as the show and you can also add her make-up adds to that. That alone would cause her to lose weight.

As for Xander well, you can't stay young and trim forever. Just look at David Boreanaz..he had a little pot belly in season 5!
