Isn't Faith the Slayer rather than a slayer?

What I find more interesting about all this, is not that Faith can be a leader but Buffy can't always be a follower. She's been in charge for so long and had everyone look to her for the answers or to make the decisions that I think she finds it hard to step down, especially towards the end of season 7.

Well, who wouldn't find it hard?

For 7 years she has been their leader. For 7 years she was the one with the answers, with the power.. she was the one who saved everyone. And when they told her they don't agree with her, she felt betrayed. She thought they're trusting her by now. Who wouldn't fealt hurt..

Okay, especially in Season 7 this for some reason annoyed me. Technically Faith's the 'Chosen One' who holds the Slayer Line whilst Buffy is actually just a slayer rather then the Slayer. I sometimes think that the Potentials should have looked up to more Faith then rather Buffy. I think the reason Buffy is labelled the Slayer is because she's survived the longest, been through the most yada, yada, yada. I just sometimes think Faith should get a little more recognition at times. Besides she does hold the Slayer line now, anyone else agree? 🙂

Oh hell nah...Who cares about who's the "real" slayer. Faith went crazy, killed people, ruined lives, went to jail, stole Buffy's body etc. She even said she is not fit to lead the potentials. Sorry to any Faith fans, but she just pisses me off..she's like, wahhh wahh my life's hard and I'm emotionally unstable so I'm just gunna kill people, go all evil, and turn my backs on the ones that care for me the most.

The fact is Faith is not as qualified to lead as Buffy, just because she is the "main" Slayer doesn't make her better than Buffy. I love Faith, but her character was still learning and she was doing a great job in not being evil lol

I like faith, but IMO the Potentials should look up to Buffy.

As much as I love Faith (which is quite a lot) I don't think it would be a good decision for the potentials to look up to Faith or try and make her leader. In season seven, Faith was still struggling with herself and trying to earn back trust and forgiveness from everyone. She wouldn't be able to handle that kind of pressure.

For me, it has very little to do with her past actions. Every character has screwed up at one point or another and as a viewer, I tend to pretty forgiving of them. More forgiving than I would be in a real scenario.

Faith and Buffy are both excellent at what they do, in their own way but Faith's just not a leader. Her conflict in End Of Days is that, while she can't lead, she really can't follow either. Even without her emotional struggles, she's far too reckless to lead a group of people.

Put her with a small team and I'm sure she'd do fine. 😀

Well, I'm pretty much with all of you here.

To me, Faith is THE Slayer, since she's the last one being called.
Buffy went to "A Slayer"-status when she first died.
Doesn't mean that one is "better" than the other.
But Buffy is certainly the better role model for the potentials than Faith is, simply because of Faith's past and the fact that Buffy is way more experienced in fighting evil. She was the most qualified leader at that time.

I never believed in the differentiation between "a" and "the" Slayer. Every Slayer is The Slayer... including the never-seen one who got called after The Gift. 😛

Yes, I do believe that Faith gave up any special entitlements when she went psycho and started killing humans and demons that didn't need killing. Even if she is "reformed", she wasn't exactly stable.

I always have seen Buffy as the ultimate Slayer: the one who died twice and is still standing, the one who had friends and a family, which made her stronger, the one who lived the longest (if you don't count her dead times), the one who turned her back to the Council and yada yada yada. She completely redefines what it means to be a Slayer, so that's what makes her (to me), THE Slayer, not A Slayer.

I mostly agree, except for the "THE" part. As Spike pointed out in School Hard, Buffy is really only still standig because of her friends - without Xander and Willow, especially, Buffy would be (stay) dead.

Faith, I think, could have done the same, except she had no family and no Xander or Willow of her own. But we don't need 2 Buffies, so she shows us how things could go if you "alone are the slayer."
