Isn't it GREAT when your computer dies!

Well, just had a really fun week (actually, 10 days!) without access to the internet because my poor old comp finally gave up the ghost and died on me. Considering how I hammer these things it lasted a good long time (with only three repair jobs needed over the years) but I finally had to admit that I needed a new one and forked out a little under £500 for this lovely new piece of technology that I'm currently typing away on.

Of course, not having a computer all week has meant that I couldn't work so technically it has cost me a hell of a lot more but what the hell. It's new and shiny! 😉

Finally finished downloading all the stuff I wanted on here and now all I've got to do is get all my cd's back onto iTunes. Problem is that I have hundreds so I should be finished by the time 2007 hits.

So, I miss anything exciting around here?

Well, feel free to get to know me anyway, lol! :)
Hehe, yeah, I'm the member formerly known as The Watcher, now known as Arcane, prior to there being a new member known as The Watcher... who isn't me... or something like that! 😉

Ahhh, admit it. You were secretly glad your PC bought the farm.
Speaking as a man, it's always a boon to us when an excuse is provided to buy ourselves a shiny new toy. 😛

Too true...Mmm, shiny :)
Yep, true enough! As much as I will miss my old computer you can't beat a good excuse to buy a nice, new bit of tech to unpack and mess about with. It gave me an excuse to get a new monitor anyway. The last one had been on it's way out for a long time.

Now if I can just get my DVD player to pack in so that I have an excuse to get that DVD recorder I've had my eye on... lol!

Accidentally throw a hammer at it or something. You cant help it if it just slipped out your hand 😛

Yeah, a hammer! Or maybe a coffee table or sofa. Y'know, whatever happens to be nearby... 😀

Not that most of us boys need much of an excuse to get new toys - it's a good job our other halves are there to curb our potential excesses...so you can imagine my surprise when Mrs P was as enthusiastic as I was when we got the chance to buy a lovely Apple Powerbook at an unbelievable bargain price from our local PC World...I suspect it was down to Number One Son's proselytizing for all things Apple...gawd bless 'im 🙂
I love getting new 'puter stuff 🙂 What kind of machine did you end up with Arcane?

I'm contemplating a new laptop because i'm always arguing with this one.

Here is a question for you techies!

Sometimes when I go to start it up and it makes a noise, the power light comes on but nothing. One day out of frustration I gave it a sorta tap just to the left of the mouse pad in the middle and it started up!

So now when it does that I do that and its fine. So the old joke of kicking it or hitting it does actually work!

Sounds like it's going into sleep mode as soon as it starts - I would check your power saving settings

This is the point where my immense lack of computer knowledge goes on display for all to see, hehe. I am ludicrously uneducated in these things. I know how to do what I need to do for my work and that is about as far as it goes. It's an iQon computer and it's grey, black and shiny! That any help? 😀

Are they the ones that Tesco sell? They look to have some quite good deals. A good way to get a shed load of points on your Club card 🙂

Don't forget to make sure your security software is up-to-date...you wouldn't want a nasty infection on your new toy.

First thing I did. 😉

And I'm not sure if these computers are the ones that Tesco sell but they are a damn good deal regardless. I got this one through a catalogue and considering that I didn't want to be spending too much I was very happy with what I got.

It's amazing what you get for your money with PCs these days...prices have plummeted since I got my first one and specs have gone through the roof.

It's likely due to the fact many people have moved on to laptops these days. Keeping the prices as low as possible on PC packages makes them that little bit more attractive when you come to buying a new computer.

Personally I've only had the one laptop and I had nothing but problems with it so for work purposes I'm sticking to PCs for the time being.
