Has anyone else seen this? If this cover is legitimate, as in a direct copy of the "Twilight" poster, do you think DH, the artists, and Joss are pushing the "Their Twilight, our Twilight" thing a bit far?

(But I do love the picture, though. I can't really put my finger on exactly why, but it just seems so much more "right" than the previous couple of covers. And is it just my imagination, or does Angel look somehow heart broken, dejected, and somehow...replaced by a better man? Nah, that's just my imagination.)

Definetly just your Spike fan boy imagination 🙂

Interesting that Angel is in the place of the guy your one ends up with in the actual books/movie.

It is interesting, but I seriously doubt that they're going to go and totally copy Twilight. Also, why on earth would Joss give us such a huge hint about the outcome unless it wasn't ACTUALLY the outcome?

I say that both sides still have an equal chance. 🙂 And even if you're right, then Spuffy will still be best friends, and I'll take that over sappy romance ANY day. 😀

See that logic never actually works, cuz maybe it's out there to make you think that it's to big of a give away to make you think the opposite.

I was only messing with WA, but do you seriously think if Buffy and Angel got together Spike and Buffy would be best friends?

Maybe so, I guess that we will just have to wait and find out. 🙂

If you were going by the Angel=Edward, Spike=Jacob, Buffy=Bella logic than they would be. 😀 Then again, Buffy and Bella are NOTHING alike. So that hopefully won't happen...

Ahem. Anyway. I do hope that they will be friends again. That, or that both Spike and Angel will get out of Buffy's life and STAY out. I doubt that Spuffy will become best friends again, but they'll probably respect each other and be acquaintances. 🙂

oh gees, I sure hope that's not the cover *winces* That would just be taking it too far

It's the variant cover.

Heck, I knew that.

All jokes aside, and I have said this many times before, I very seriously doubt that the Bangel/Spuffy question will be definitely answered by the end of this arc, or even by the end of Season 9. Despite everything that Joss has said about how Buffy and Angel are supposed to be/should be/or definitely ever will belong together, this is a debate that has fueled a lot of interest in the series and its characters, far more than whether Willow should have ended up with Tara or Oz, Xander with Cordy or Anya, or Giles with Jenny, Olivia (?) or Joyce. To completely settle the question will take away some of the mystery that, for me at least, is the thing that keeps Buffy fresh and alive as a series.

lol wasn't this leaked a few weeks ago? =P

Still, I think it's a hilarious cover and continues Jeanty's trend of pop-culture aping.

Plus I like the fact that Season 8 has dropped quite a few sly digs at the Twilight phenomenon. 😉

After all the sly digs -at the Twilight saga - It's actually a bit of relief to see an honest to goodness reference to it.

So the issue#36 cover is a BtVs version of the New Moon poster. With the Angel/Buffy/Spike triangle mirroring the Edward/Bella/Jacob triangle from the Twilight saga.

So - is we continue the Twilight comparison into Buffy Season 9 - what we'll end up with is - Buffy and Angel get married, have a daughter who matures very quickly. And eventually Spike will falling for Buffy & Angel's Daughter. 😉

I think the Twilight spoof cover is absolutely hilarious. I don't think it's a direct hint to the plot, just a little healthy mocking of another popular franchise that Buffy, unfortunately, often gets discussed and criticized alongside.

And yeah, it is a real cover. I saw it on Comic Book Resources.com a while back and posted it on my live journal.

I'll agree that it's - not very Joss-like to do a direct rip of anything. So don't expect - season 8 or Season 9 to follow the Twilight saga.

On the other hand - they say spoofing is a form of compliment. And there's no doubt that Stephenie Meyer has great success with the Twilight saga - 85 million books sold, and nearly 1 billion dollars gross(world wide).

So it's more likely that Joss is just spoofing Stephenie as a nod to her success.

I do think there's been a bit too much "nodding" to Twilight in the Buffy comics lately.

Not that I hate the Twilight stories... I haven't read any of the books or seen any of the movies, and don't care to. But for a lot of younger people, Twilight is the definitive "girl and vampires" story. For the Buffy books to keep referencing them makes it seem like Joss is now trailing along after Stephanie Meyer and trying to scoop up crumbs of popularity. It's like the Rolling Stones asking to be Coldplay's opening act. I think it's a bit demeaning.
