Issue with Seal of Danzalthar

Okay, so I've been re-watching season 7 this week... just for giggles and I noticed something really weird, continuity wise... and within the SAME episode, no less!

I just finished watching Never Leave Me, and we start out with The First (as Jonathon) telling Andrew that the fact that Jonathon was short and (possibly) because he was anemic, there wasn't enough blood to open the seal. So they were going to make Andrew kill another person. But then Andrew refuses to kill another person... so they find him a little pig? (Granted this brought about one of the BEST lines in the whole season "THAT'LL DO PIG!!!!") My initial thought is "Uh... the pig is way smaller than Jonathon," but I brushed it off when that failed and Andrew got blood at the butcher shop. And from as many bags of that blood Buffy was feeding to Spike, I suppose there might have been enough?

But here's where I got really miffed: After all the moaning about "not enough blood to open the seal," The First kidnaps Spike, cuts symbols into his chest and with what looks like only a half of a cup of blood, THE SEAL OPENS and out comes Toy Camden (Ubervamp #1)!!!!!!!! Is anyone else totally confused by this? Later on we see some continuity issues with the same thing (the bleeding of Xander in First Date, as a for instance)

Has anyone else noticed this and questioned it, or am I totally nuts?

It does look like a continuity issue. The only thing I can think of is that it required more blood the first time around... Then it just needed some?

Who knows! There is quite many continuity errors in the show(and tv in general).

I assumed that it was because Andrew didn't have the magical skills and knowledge to be able to pull it off. Then the first realised that a vampire would be the most likely to work due to the fact that they were summoning a uber-vamp.

Also, the entire thing with Spike seemed a little bit more planned and magical. There were symbols instead of just a stab, and the person doing it was part demon, and everything teamed together just seems a little bit more... powerful... I guess?! Haha, I don't know how elegantly this was put, but I'm sure you all get where I'm coming from!

I always assumed it worked like this
The seal takes x amount of blood to open.
Jonathan had y amount of blood
The seal then only needed z amount of blood to open.
y>z by a way lot
the pig had z amount of blood
the bags of blood would make up z amount
and the amount of blood that poured out of Spike was z amount of blood.

It was really unfortunate for The First that Jonathan had JUST enough blood to make it not enough.

That was pretty much the only logical explanation I could think of too. My only issue then becomes why it hardly took any blood to keep re-opening the seal, or maybe that just was all it needed after being awakened with Jonathon's blood?

I do have to agree also with what caitaintdead said as well about Spike's blood being more powerful because he's a vampire. I think the whole issue is how much POWER the blood has (Joss did say from the first episode that the whole season came down to power, right?) Spike's blood is more powerful, using powerful magicks to drain Xander's blood (?), and definitely the powerful blood of two slayers and SEVERAL potentials in Chosen.
