I think you can grow them in canisters. I have seen watermelons grown in shapes because they were placed in plastic to shape them. One year I thought my watermelons were cucumbers and ate them well before they were ready. Edible.

You would hold the cucumber - though I would suggest using a piece rather than a whole one - in one part and then move it over the blade, removing a slice on each pass.
