So the other day I was talking with my older sister about the Bangel moment in the episode "Forever," when Angel comes to visit Buffy because of mother's death. And I agree with my sister, even though Buffy and Angel could never be together, it was really sweet of him to do that because he's probably the only one Buffy want to talk to when that happened, and it's good that they do sort of keep in touch and don't just totally ignore eachother like some ex-lovers do.


So what's your opinion on this Bangel moment in "Forever?"

See, that's why they are meant to be. They're connected. She knew he's going to come, and he knew she's going to wait for him. And she said herself that she's glad he came 😀
 
I think that him being there for her at that moment, plus the, "I'm here for as long as you need me," "How does forever sound?" was really beautiful.

(What? You were expecting me to say something anti-Bangel here?)
 
I think, given the circumstances, that I would have been majorly upset if Angel had stayed away. It would have been very out of character if he had failed to be there for her.

Buffy remaining at the graveside until the sun set makes me think that she knew he was coming and was waiting for him. They might not have been together at that time, they knew that they COULDN'T be together at that point, but they both knew that they still need each other in situations like this.

Speaking as someone who has been in Angel's shoes in this type of situation (comforting an ex while she's grieving), I'll tell ya, It is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I, like Angel (I think), was still in love with the girl & to hold her again & know I was going to have to walk away again. It really sucked, broke my heart all over again but, you do what you gotta do coz loving someone means putting them before you.

That's sweet. Bittersweet, but still sweet.
You'll probably be surprised that I say this, but honestly, their scene together in "Forever" is one I actually do like. It's definitely a very nice touch that Angel came to be there for Buffy after Joyce's funeral. 🙂

However, don't be getting any crazy ideas, folks. It's about the only Bangel moment post "Becoming" that I don't get fiddly with the FFW button over. I'm still as anti-Bangel as they get. 😀
 
That scene is so touching. It conveys the understanding and intimacy between them beautifully whilst also telling something quite universal about bereavement.

BUFFY: The funeral was ... (sighs) it was brutal, but it's tomorrow that I'm worried about.
ANGEL: What's tomorrow?
BUFFY: That's exactly what I don't know
 
It is one of the sweetest and most powerful Bangel moments. He comes in the hardest moment of her life, the loss of her mother. Most importantly, she FEELS that he will come. She stays there until nightfall, alone until he comes. And she confides in him, as she always does. Her instinct always guides her to him and him to her.

If we just check this moment and forget about networks, just let the tale guide us, he would stay there if she asked him to. And the kiss was so sweet and passionate and clearly Buffy wanted to be supported by the one person she always ran to for help.

I expected absolutely no less from Angel than to come to Buffy. 🙂
