It's never too early for Halloween

Variety is reporting that Dimension Films are starting production on “Halloween Returns,” the 11th film in the Michael Myers franchise, in July. Marcus Dunstan is directing from a script he wrote with Patrick Melton. The duo teamed on the scripts for the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh “Saw” movies.

Neither the plot nor additional information has been revealed, but a rumored plot leak says that:

The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers’ case, even putting it before his own daughter. Myers is now on death row and the two kids with their own personal vendettas against the killer sneak in to watch his execution. But when things go awry and Myers escapes, the pair, along with their friends, find themselves in the firing line.

How OLD is Michael Myers.. I figure he would be (at a minimum) 60 now. He's getting alittle old for trick or treating.

Michael Myers is 6 years old in 1963 when he kills his sister, so he was born in 1957, that makes him 58.

It will be shit. Modern horror writers have no understanding for what made older films work so well in the first place. We will get a dysfunctional movie expressing the dysfunctional and unhealthy feelings and fears of those Saw writers (Saw movies= gratuitous displays of human suffering for a cheap thrill).

I feel like referring to Saw movies as ;gratuitous displays of human suffering; is oversimplifying an incredible complex discussion. People don't simply watch horror films for a 'cheap thrill'.

@caitaintdead this is one of those conversations that I'm not interested in having in this way (internet). Believe it or not, it kind of touches on things in several ways that I am passionate about; things that I care about and tend to get me worked up.

You know, I've always preferred face to face discussions to anonymous internet conversation. For as much as I enjoy BB and a few other places, I really dislike the online medium for conversation. I'm becoming increasingly less interested in defending a position anymore on messageboards and so on (I only visit a few places anymore). Particularly things that move me more than just innocuous questions, like what my favorite season of Buffy is or whatever. It takes too long and I'm impatient; there are too many ways for me to be misunderstood; concern for being misunderstood makes me sometimes express my points in ways that don't get the point across nearly as well (for the sake of not sounding offensive to the other person); most people don't get a good sense (through the written word) of where exactly they stand in relation to the other person as they do in person (as one random example, getting a clear sense of the other person and who they are and realizing maybe the discussion should be approached a different way or with a certain level of respect or consideration), and a million other reasons why. And also because people sometimes say things back in online conversation they would never say to me in a face to face discussion. I know this.

I read carefully what people post on BB. And I try to pause and take everyone's opinion seriously, BB and elsewhere. I like many of your posts @caitaintdead ; I don't mean to imply that you are a rude person online or anything. Just as I feel about most people on BB, I respect and enjoy your opinions on the boards. If you disagree on the description I gave of Saw, that's fine. I can respect that. On this specifically, the topic touches on things I'd rather not have a discussion or argument about in this way (online). I offered my opinion about it but yes, I'm going to leave this one at that.

I'll just start by saying that I have absolutely no problem with you at all so would not want to offend you in any way, but thought I would at least take the time to address some of what was said.

Violence in the media is something that I'm also incredibly invested and interested in. For starters, I was always 'the horror movie girl' at primary and high school. I filmed my first 'slasher' film (it was terrible!) when I was 11 years old with my friends. Every single Saturday I used to watch 2 new horror films and then write reviews and all the details about the stars and directors in my horror movie journal.
I am now at university and I am writing an analyst on an academics journal article about his research into 'the horror movie fan' and for my final paper for this unit I am writing about violence in the media.
Everyone has their different reasons for things upsetting them that might not upset others. I watched a documentary about the death of my boyfriend, and I thought that having a reenactment was completely gratuitous and yes, I was upset.

I talk quickly, make puns and get away with saying things to people while I'm working as a bartender (manager, waitress or host etc) that I still can't quite believe myself! I understand that sometimes what I say doesn't translate well in a forum and there are a million forms of life on here that take things to heart (and many that don't give a shit as well obviously! It is definitely difficult to get points across on here while finding out where your line in the sand is before crossing over to sounding mean and upsetting people.

I have felt the same way as you have on here. All of a sudden I am avoiding having discussions with people because I know that I have the ability to sneeze and offend someone! When I realise that the only posts I have been making are conversations I could have with my real life Buffy friends it's usually when I realise it's time for me to take a break from BB. While I don't want you to leave for good, perhaps this is a good time to take a wee little break and come back. I can't speak for Buffy and the mods, but I think the doors are always wide open for old members that have taken some time out!

That's very interesting! I'm an old fan of the horror genre myself. I don't like the turn horror movies took as movies like Saw became popular.

You sound like you'd be very interesting to talk to on the subject of violence in movies and television. What's your final paper about specifically, if you don't mind saying a few words about it?

I'm also a part-time bartender at a local club. It's a cool club though (goth club) and the patrons are really nice.

What's your favorite part about working as a bartender? For me, it's the connections I make with my regulars. I look forward to seeing and hearing what me and another person are going to make happen together when we speak. I wonder what we'll learn from each other and what interesting, thought provoking or amusing things will come out of our mouths. You never know what another person might pull out of you and get you to say and think, and vice versa.

I have picked up on some of what you two have been saying, about the horror movie stuff. Personally I'd refer to them films I like as scary films, one I keep going back to is The Haunting with Liam Neeson. I'd seen the film that many times on DVD I'd gotten used to it. That all changed the afternoon I added more lot more bass, it became a lot more scary. Another good one is The Woman in Black the original was so-so and when I bought it again it was by accident. The second version has Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) as the lead and it is a whole heap better. It uses sound to create the feeling that something creepy is about to happen. I like writing books, film scripts, stage plays for fun, getting that air of expectancy in writing can be hard to do but well worth it when it is done.
I prefer ghost films, witches, vampires especially when the scary isn't in your face scary but thought provokingly scary, like The Awakening. Finding at the end of the film that the lad was a ghost.

Never say never, but I am expecting this to be shit. After the first three Halloween films the series just became an excerise in numbers.

It sounds kind of interesting to me but I'm really getting tired of them wanting to ignore certain sequels in the franchise & saying this one starts after this one, no this one starts after this one. How many times can you do that?! They better really get it together & get a good cast together. I love Halloween so I'm always at least slightly hopeful but at this point, I'm just not sure. They may want to forget other sequels & start after the original Halloween II but guess what, the public won't forget.
