I've got a theory.

So, I've got this theory. I was talking to some people online about BtVS and about 'ships in it. Most of the people who are Bangel fans were watching the show from the begining. You know, they watched the show from the episode 1, from the first time it aired. Most of those people are fans of Willow and Oz and Xander and Cordelia. But people who started watching Buffy later, not from the begining, they are Spuffy fans, and like Willow with Tara and Xander with Anya. Now, this is not automaticly true, this is just one thing I've noticed when I was talking with Buffy fans. This is half true for me, and for you?
 
I watched Btvs from the begining when it first aired and I would say I am more of a Bangel. However, I don't like Willow and Oz or Xander and Cordy. I like the idea of Faith and Angel, Fred and Spike. Actual ship I prefered Willow and Tara, Xander and Anya, Wesley and Lilah.
 
I started watching Buffy when it was in its fourth season and I like Willow with both Oz and Tara (though I have a very soft spot for Oz, not gonna lie). I don't really care about Xander's relationships but I think I liked him better with Anya simply because I like Cordelia much more on Angel than on BtVS. As for Buffy - I'm not much of a fan of her with Angel or Spike, not even mentioning Riley. So... conclusion. Your theory is 1/3 right with me?
 
I watched it after it left the air. My teams are Spike/Buffy, Willow/Oz and Xander/Anya. So I guess it's half true for me.
 
I'm a Spike/Buffy, Xander/Anya (<3), Willow/Tara fan; and the first season of Buffy I remember watching throroughly, when I was old enough to actually understand and start becoming a fan of 'ships was season six, so for me that does explain a few things. But, I don't think that's the situation in all cases, it could just be a coinsidence.

Edit: Though I did watch Buffy from about season three the first time around, I just don't remember it. xD
 
I started from season 4, but I like Bangel more than Spuffy(even I'm a Fuffy 😛). And I like Xanya and Tillow. So it's 2/3 true for me. Maybe it's because I knew that Buffy was with Angel before I started watching the whole series. 🙂
 
I watched it from the beginning. But I'm neither Bangel or Spuffy. No I'm not a Ruffy either. I prefer Xanya over Cander though. When I finally got my sister to watch the show she claimed to be a total Bangel. The problem was that was when she was watching season 3... So I told her to wait since she thought people were crazy to even consider Spuffy. She did see my point but is still a Bangel. And prefers Woz to Tillow but likes them both. When it comes to Xander I don't know if she has any preference.
 
It's 2/3 for me too. I mean I am pure Bangel fan, I like Willow with Oz, but I like Xander with Anya. I don't know I was Bangel when I was 8, when I was 12 and I'm Bangel now when I'm 16. Some things just don't change. But I like Will with Oz better maybe because I love Willow from season 1 to season 3 the most 😀
 
Ha, great minds here I guess, cos I came up with this theory a little while ago. It's one of the older Bangel/Spuffy threads here. It's linked from page four onwards so you can see what people have already said on the topic 🙂
 
I started from season 5 and I prefer Bangel over Spuffy and I'm totally in love with Willow/Oz, but I don't like Tillow that much. So, nope I disagree 😀
 
Yes, this has already been discussed, and it is definitely partly true.

As you all know, I'm sort of *new* to the Whedonverse - I just discovered it about 5 years ago. I did watch Buffy in order with the DVDs, and have always been a Spuffy. From the second Spike walked into my screen I wondered when Joss would get him together with our Slayer 😉 I enjoyed watching Bangel, but was glad when Angel left and got his own show.

In terms of other 'ships, I liked Cordy/Xander but I prefer Anya/Xander. They were just made for each other, in my opinion. I also prefer Angel/Cordy, Wes/Fred, Willow/Tara. So, I guess I'm a mix of preferring "original" and late 'ships.
 
I watched from the beginning, after it was already finished airing live and the high school years are my favorites. What I knew beforehand: Bangel would come to an end and Spuffy would happen at some point. I don't really consider myself either though (the only canon ships I'm passionate about are Cangel and Tillow). I enjoyed both while they were happening- Bangel broke my heart, but I found Spuffy to be more interesting. However, I support both those relationships staying ended.

As for the others: I am a Tillow supporter, but I *adore* Woz, too. And I didn't know anything about what would happen with Willow's relationships when I started watching.
 
Personally i am a die hard BANGEL fan(oh you already know that lol 😛)...and here is my story about how i learned about Buffy...
since i was 17 i kinda had a thing for vampire stories...so,some months ago(had to be during summer) a friend of mine told me about a vampire with a soul(she is not Buffy fan though)...then i saw a video in youtube and i got very interested in Buffy and Angel's story,that was it:i started reading wikipedia,i am currently watching season 3 of Buffy and season 5 of Angel(a good friend of mine managed to get all seasons of Angel and she will get Buffy seasons for me too in Christmas!YAY!)
when it first aired i had no idea the show existed and i was really young(7 or 8 years old)...still i am BANGEL and i believe Oz and Willow are really cute together!Still i haven't watched all Buffy seasons and can't really express any other opinions cause i need to see more
 
I watched the fifth season first. I bought it on VHS when I was 7/8. Back then I wasn't really interested in who Buffy or Spike or Willow or Xander or whoever's love interests were, I just cared about the plot and the action. After I saw no.5, I watched the first season to the seventh season is chronological order. I remember liking Angel and Buffy's relationship, and thinking "aw, it's so nice they love each other so much". When I got a little bit older and I watched the series again, I decided that Spike was hot. I also found him way more interesting than Angel. So then I started paying closer attention to him and his relationship with everyone, which of course led to Spuffy. Their relationship sparked something in me that Bangel never did. I liked how Spike's feelings towards her were far more complicated than Angel's, and the concept of whether he loved her at all due to his lack of a soul. Spike never had it easy and yet acted distinctly more human than Angelus ever did. Then watching Fool For Love and Lies My Parents Told Me together made me love Spike's character even more. There's something so deeply touching about him as a person and his relationships with others... he was able to still "love" his mother even when they were both vampires, whereas she was ready and willing to both insult and leave him. Spike's feelings towards Buffy scream sincerity, and the reason I prefer Spuffy to Bangel is because I feel Spike deserves Buffy... he deserves to be with the one he really loves.
 
Although I will always be a die hard Bangel shipper, I will admit that the Spike/Buffy relationship was certainly dynamic. What I keep wondering now is when and if either Spike or Angel will be a part of season 8 of Buffy. I feel like there should be a cross over of some kind. Hopefully Angel will figure out a way to get LA out of hell and hey, wouldnt it be just perfect considering his present condition...
 
I don't think it's all intirely true.

I grew up watching Buffy from the beginning (the parts mom let me watch), but I just never got the Bangel romance. I have always disliked it, and I always will. I really have nothing positive to say about the Bangel relationship at all, but in regards of Woz and Cander...I actually(most of the time) prefer the Woz relationship to the Tillow relationship. Cander vs Xanya is kinda a tigh. I like them both equally, but it's fine that Xander went with Anya because if gave way to possibly the only relationship where I can accept Angel being in one. Cangel. It's just win.

I don't think you can find out what ship people support by knowing when they started watching it. I believe it's a mix of what characters you like and how you want their lives to be like.
