This may only be a thread for the UK BB members but given the fact that the story has gone global I guess most people here may have some idea what I'm talking about.
I just wanted to find out what everyone's opinions have been about the mess that Celeb BB has been this year. I honestly still cannot believe what has been going on and how out of hand it has been allowed to get.
First of all, Jade Goody. Now I've never had much of an opinion on this girl either way. Didn't like her especially and didn't care to watch her gradually developing celeb status but I had nothing against her at all. Until I saw just what a nasty, foul mouthed cow she was capable of being. The way she treated Shilpa in the BB house was inexcusable and very uncomfortable to see. That said, I do tend to believe her when she says that her actions were not of a racist nature. She had a major problem with Shilpa but the problem stemmed from differences in upbringing and culture rather than anything to do with skin colour.
This is where I feel that the media is to blame. It was the tabloids that played up the idea that the bullying was racist and it was the media that kept on plugging it until there was no way that an international affair could be avoided. When this is looked back on in years to come I really hope people don't forget that it was the papers that really started the race row, rather than Jade herself.
Not that Jade should get off lightly. Her bullying was just painful to see and the infamous argument will forever be seen as showing the true face of Jade Goody, in my opinion.
To be honest though, I do feel sorry for Danielle and Jo. They did their fair share of bitching and they certainly played a part in the bullying but they have been tarred with same brush as Jade now when in fact they did nothing like the same amount of harm to Shilpa. Jo should have known better than to get involved but Danielle has the mind and maturity of a school girl and frankly does whatever she needs to to be popular. That's no excuse but it does allow for a little understanding.
Now though, Jo is on the verge of a nervous breakdown and Danielle has lost most of her contracts and her boyfriend, just because the press made them out to be racists when even Shilpa admits that none existed.
My feeling is that people need to back off the two girls now and let them be. Jo has been getting death threats and can't go back to her own house! How is that comparable to a few bitchy remarks made on Big Brother? It's like people forget that pretty much every single series of BB has involved girls bitching behind other girls backs. Only last year you had Grace and Imogen constantly bitching about Nikki, but because the media didn't turn that into a race issue it's acceptable.
The day that taking part in a reality show leads to you getting death threats is the day it's gone far too far, in my opinion.
