In light of Slive's thread The "Death Penalty" I wanted to start this thread.

The jails now a days are way wrong. There like a home away from home. As Silve said:

Jails. Jails are getting to be too much like home away from home. They have television, free time, they are not always confined to their cells. It's like living for free, no rent, you get meals every day, clothing, and you don't pay a thing....The jail systems these days...
So what do you think do think what they get in jail is wrong? How can it be better? What do you think?

In a way I think they are wrong but then again are right. yeh, they get better things nowadays than they used to, but still it still must be bad to be locked up away from family, not being able to do what they want, being told what to do, not being able to see the outside world..

I think the jails should be as good as possible. You actually think that the jails are too good for the prisoners..? It's like you want them to have the worst time ever..? I'd like them to live as good life as possible considering the fact that they live in a small room without their family/friends/lives and so on. I don't really like the idea about jails at all, in some ways it's wrong to take people away from their freedom. I'm not saying they should be allowed to go wherever they want and whatever they want, obviously that wouldn't work (in most of the cases) since many of these people could be rather dangerous. But I'd like them to have the best time possible (which still wouldn't be that good at all).. and get as much help (psychologically) as possible.. Uh, anyway, I don't mind the jails getting better, in my opinion that's just good.

In Soc. we learned that prison populations tend to get larger around November/December for the simple reason that at least in prison there's food and heat. People who would likely freeze to death in winter otherwise take to petty theft or other small crimes (anything that will let them out by summer) so they'll have some place to stay. If these people had someplace else to go, maybe they wouldn't try to land themselves in prison.

Yeah, the problem isn't that the jails are getting better, the problem is that people live in a situation where living in jail would give them a better life, that sure does say something about the life they must be living...
