James Is Still Willing To Play Spike

Joss has stated in the past that if he could get ALL of the original actors back for some sort of continuation onscreen, then he would have no problem scrapping the entire comic run. But only if he had all the original actors.

I for one would not complain.

That would be awesome. Unfortunately I don't see that happening since the main stars are all busy with other shows right now. Still would be awesome, if they could get the scheduling right he should totally do it.

Oh that's awesome! I don't really keep up to date with things Joss says/has said so I rely on this forum to keep me informed🙂

That was my original reaction, but then I kept reading the comics and my mind was pretty solidly changed.

In the comics right now the rules for vampires are being re-written, so it wouldn't be too hard to come up with a hand-wave for why he looks older. Maybe souled vampires age now.

Or, you could just go ahead and have him play Spike, have everybody say "wow, he looks older now" for the first 30 seconds, and then they'd get over it.

I think SMG is still the real sticking point for any hope of more filmed Buffy. I've said before that doing a one-off charity episode for Children In Need or something would be the best way to make it happen... but I just don't see a full-on movie ever materializing.

I think the movie part of it is one of the main sticking points for her. She believes the story works as a long form narrative. I can't say I disagree with her. Maybe a netflix type revival would be more up her alley? Though, I really don't think Joss has a Buffy story burning insid him, waiting to be told. I think in his mind, he's said what he needed to say with those characters.

Joss and Netflix would be perfection: he wouldn't have to cater to douchey network execs and would have much more free reign.

I wonder if he's going to be involved with the new marvel shows that are gonna be on Netflix, I hope so, that way he would be in some dialogue with them.

I think that's just Sarah's way of saying "I don't want to play Buffy again" without hurting people's feelings. The original Buffy movie failed not because the concept was bad, but because the execution (by the director and producer and at least one of the stars) was bad. It would have been an excellent movie if Mr. Sutherland had stuck to the lines that were written for him, and if they had kept Lothos and Amilyn's death scenes the way Joss wrote them originally.

In an interview she just did where she's asked if a new Buffy movie would work like the new Veronica Mars movie, SMG mentions that Veronica Mars was more of a case-of-the-week type show that could easily be adapted to movie format, but it really wasn't. The show had even larger continuing arcs than Buffy did, mainly Veronica trying to find out who killed her friend Lily (season 1) and trying to find out who roofied and raped her (season 2).

I think it's fine if Sarah doesn't want to do it anymore. I agree that Joss probably doesn't have any big Buffy story he wants to tell that he's not telling in the comics. He's said several times he doesn't like going back and re-visiting stuff he's done before. Personally, I'd rather see him move on to new things... especially considering the resources that Hollywood will make available to him after he makes them another couple billion dollars with Avengers 2.

Yeah, the way SMG talks about Buffy it's clear she won't do anything else in that universe. Sad, because I'd love to see more Buffy, but you have to respect it. And to be honest, most of the stars will be the same as SMG. The only people who'd really want to do it are the ones whose careers have gone a bit quiet lately, the rest would take a lot of convincing/a lot of money/would flat out refuse.
It's the same thing with the oft-rumoured FRIENDS movie, only about 2 out of the 7-10 people you'd really want to see come back to their characters have any genuine enthusiasm for the project and I'd still say we've more chance of seeing that than any Buffy stuff.

My opinion of Sarah and Buffy has changed a lot recently, I was never a fan of her attitude before. Frankly her response to Buffy not working as a movie, like the first one, or Veronica Mars working as a movie is total BS.

She just has no interest, which is fine.

That said, considering The Crazy Ones isn't doing so hot (I enjoy it, but it's still likely to be cancelled), her last show failed and her movie carrer never took off and the majority of her fans are Buffy based, I wonder if she may change her tune on that opinion.

Everybody has just moved on and Joss is in the Marvel world now. It would be years before he would even have time to consider a Buffy movie, and the cast ain't getting any younger. I would love to see DB and JM back again though, I really loved their interaction in season 5 of Angel.
People grow up and so they just aren't the same person they were when they were on the show, which could be why they don't want to return. Others are just too busy with other stuff, like Seth Green. I miss Oz 🙁
