Okay my brother being the huge Dragon Ball Z fan he is brought to my attention that James Marsters is set to play the role of Piccolo in the film adaptation of Dragon Ball Z. So for you guys I found this article!

20th Century Fox has set Justin Chatwin (The Invisible, War of the Worlds) to play Goku and James Marsters ("Smallville," "Angel," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") as the villain Piccolo in Dragon Ball Z.

In the big screen adaptation, Goku is a powerful warrior who protects the Earth from an endless stream of rogues bent on dominating the universe and controlling the mystical objects from which the film takes its name.

Actor/writer/director Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle) is producing. Final Destination helmer James Wong will direct from a script he wrote. Ben Ramsey wrote an earlier draft.

The story is based on Akira Toriyama's popular manga that has spawned graphic novels, a long-running TV series and more than 25 video games. The Jump Comics division of Tokyo-based Shueisha published the "Dragon Ball" manga.

With shooting scheduled to begin later this month, Fox will bow the sci-fi/adventure worldwide Aug. 15. Chatwin has already begun training with 87Eleven, the stunt performance company behind the action sequences in The Matrix, The Bourne Supremacy,Mr. & Mrs. Smith and 300.

I read this a couple of days ago. I have to say that I'm more than a little surprised. When I was younger I watched DBZ and I've always been intrigued by the concept of it being turned into a live-action movie. What I'm confused about is why is Piccolo the villain? He was only the villain in the original Dragon Ball series, but not in DBZ. Perhaps Vanity Fair got their intel mixed up. It would make sense if they cast James as Vegeta, cause they're both not too tall whereas Piccolo is. Then again, Vegeta is about as old as Goku, whereas Piccolo (at least) looks much older. Justin Chatwin does really look like Goku though!
 
I loved Dragonball Z when I was younger. It's great that James Marsters is gonna play Piccolo. I hope it's true. There was also a rumor about Joss Whedon doing the Sailor Moon movie but that might be just a rumor.
 
cool! =D i have to see this! when i was about 8 i was really obssesed with DB! =D james masters \o/
 
Eh, I know this is old but hey....

I got to see a trailer and OMG it looks nothing like James!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the trailer I only heard about this because Emmy Rossum is in the movie as well. I had no idea James was going to be in it.
 
I remember when i was younger i was an avid Dragon Ball Z fan...me and my brother used to watch it every day with no exceptions...DBZ came above all else...so i might go and see it....I think James Marsters is possibly one of the only men alive that could pull off green lol!! 😀
