She isn't in the first book - which is why, in my post, I mentioned that she has a much smaller role in the books than she does in the show. Sookie still considers Tara to be her best friend in the books, like she does in the show, but her role is very minor and she only appears when Sookie's trying to remember that she has somewhat of a normal life, which isn't very often.

AH, ok ok gotcha. Yeah I only had the first and lost interest before I got a hold of the others. Im personally not loving where the tv show is headed now :-/ I digress though lol

I'm sure it was nothing personal. When it comes to a series though, everyone involved has a distinct perception of how they want the character to be or how the character is defined. They probably wanted Eric to appear more intimidating because of his height & build. Like someone else said though, I couldn't see anyone else playing the role of Eric besides Alexander Skarsgard. He really was a perfect choice for the role. Too bad James or any other Buffyverse cast member hasn't made a guest appearance on the show, that would be cool.
James Marsters would not have been a good Eric, he just doesn''t fit that role in anyway other than being blonde and having played a vampire before. If they were the same height, I would still think that Skargaard is the better choice as Eric.

I cant imagine a Eric who is shorter than Bill lol. They would be the two least intimidating vampires ever.
James Marsters as Erik... oh no, no no... that would not have worked for me. Firstly I think he's too old for the part by now and yes, I do think that the height thing is important here. Erik has a certain look and build that I think is important to his character and that I wouldn't want compromised. Besides I think that Alexander looks Scandinvian (don't shoot me now Erik fans but IMO he's typically Scandinvian in the sense that he's kind of cute but not really cute, there's an awkwardness to his features) so it contributes to his role.
Also, from a more patriotic perspective, I really love the show for casting a Swedish actor since the role does involve speaking Swedish. Not that it isn't hilarious to hear American actors try but it just makes it feel more authentic to me if I can understand the Swedish that's being spoken. But same goes for the Danish and Norweigan actors they hire, I think it's lovely because it gives me an authenticity as a viewer that typically I have to do without.

James didn't go for the role of Eric. I'm assuming he went out for the role of Russell. He was asked this at a con I was at and he said that they didn't think he was tall enough to go against one the lead actors, but then he found out they had cast an actor that was shorter than he was. So I'm pretty sure he meant Russell Edgington.
I agree with Lyri, well apart from her thoughts on Pam, I loved Pam.

I somehow don't think JM was seriously going for that particular role myself. Anyhoo the actor they ended up with as Eric was just fine.
I used to be a big fan of the show for the first couple of seasons, but then it got increasingly silly and I just stopped watching it altogether. Some of the plots were just hilariously bad imo.
Such a shame. 🙁 It had such potential.
