James Marsters has confirmed that he will star in new Syfy series Three Inches.

The actor revealed on his Twitter feed that he will play Troy, the mysterious leader of a band of unlikely superheroes.

In a press release, Syfy executive Mark Stern announced that the show will be "a fun, smart, off-beat spin on the superhero genre".

He explained: "It introduces a new group of crime fighters who possess some imaginative - if not all that super - powers."

Fox Television Studios will produce Three Inches for the Syfy network.

"We felt there was something special and particularly twisted about this script, both in tone and in its sense of imagination," said Fox executive David Madden. "We could not be more thrilled to be working on it with Syfy."

Series star Marsters has previously appeared in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Caprica and Smallville.

I always find these SyFy series very hit or miss.

OK, so we have this new one, The Cape, No Ordinary Family...how many superhero shows can we have on television at the same time LOL? Still, it's James Marsters. 🙂 Anybody know when it will air?

I've asked the same thing about vampire TV shows, movies, and books lately. What this country needs is a good western. James Arness, where are you when we need you the most?

Oh man, how I feel ya with that one. The only series I ever liked from Sci-Fi, SyFy, was The Lost Room. They really hit the spot with that one! Shame is was never developed more. I'm glad James is working on new projects now, I'm definitely going to tune in. Thanks for posting BEG! 🙂

Some actual info on the show:

SYFY GREENLIGHTS "˜THREE INCHES' PILOT FROM FOX TELEVISION STUDIOS

Bob Cooper and Landscape Entertainment to Produce Script from Harley Peyton

New York, NY "“ March 16, 2010 "“ Syfy has ordered the 90-minute pilot Three Inches from writer Harley Peyton (Twin Peaks) it was announced today by Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Development for Syfy. The action-adventure/fantasy will be produced by Fox Television Studios and Executive Producer Bob Cooper, whose Landscape Entertainment is producing. J.J. Jamieson heads up television for Landscape Entertainment. Peyton also serves as executive producer.

In Three Inches, professional daydreamer and underachiever, Walter, is struck by lightning, and develops a unique "super" power "” the ability to move any object using just his mind"¦ but only a distance of three inches. He's soon recruited by a covert team of superheroes each gifted with their own extraordinarily ordinary abilities. Together, the unlikely band of heroes proves that "super" is simply a state of mind.

""˜Three Inches' is a fun, smart, off-beat spin on the superhero genre. It introduces a new group of crime fighters who possess some imaginative "“ if not all that super "“ powers," said Stern. "We look forward to working with Harley, Bob, and Fox Television Studios on this project."

David Madden, executive vice president, Fox Television Studios, said, "We felt there was something special and particularly twisted about this script, both in tone and in its sense of imagination. We could not be more thrilled to be working on it with Syfy."

Harley Peyton was producer and/or writer of more than 20 episodes of David Lynch's groundbreaking television hit Twin Peaks, for which he received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for Drama Series (1990). He also wrote the screenplay for Less Than Zero based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis. He is currently working on a follow up to the feature film The Thomas Crown Affair.

a Twin Peaks writer... well I'll definitely give this a chance!
When I read that on the JM_Live twitter I had a HUGE freakout moment in my room... I think I scared my sister. haha. But seriously, I'm super excited! I love James SOOOO freaking much!

I love James, be good to see him in something else. What is with all these superhero programs? We had a outburst of vampire programs just, now it's superheros. Whats next witches?

It's already happening on True Blood :) But, we still have Harry Potter, so it's not really that new IMO.
.... EXCITED.

I've liked a few SyFy things, and I'm willing to give it a chance. I just love him!

More casting news, I actually kinda like the cast,

Stephanie Jacobsen (Melrose Place) and Naoko Mori (Torchwood) have joined SyFy's drama pilot Three Inches as a regulars. The project, from Fox TV Studios and Landscape Entertainment, centers on Walter (Noah Reid), a twentysomething underachiever who acquires a seemingly worthless superpower after getting struck by lightning: he can move any object three inches with his mind. He goes on to recruit a team of fellow heroes, each with their own less-than-spectacular abilities. Jacobsen, repped by APA and Global Creative, and Mori, repped by Michael Greene & Assoc., will play two of them, Watts, a beautiful "super" hero who has the ability to shape the emotions of anyone she meets at close range, and a woman who can duplicate and recite any sounds she hears, respectively.

I also like the powers, their subtle, and not over the top like on Heroes or something.

Although I can't work out if it's gonna be a comedy or drama or which way it would lean between the two!

Yay!! I'm so happy for him, for me as his fan (and lover, in the not so subtle sense), and for all the rest of his fans. Hope it gets picked, I miss him. I know he's on tv here and there, but I really wanted him in a series where he's a regular. I also really hope to see SMG back on tv again. Miss her too.

happy for James and also want to see SMG back on TV
How's Caprica? Wasn't/isn't that a SyFy show? I've heard good things about it, but I've never seen it.

I like Caprica, I think it's the only SyFy show I've liked so far (like actually like liked, unless BSG was on SciFi, I don't know where that was when it was on)

But Caprica is good, not BSG good, but it's only had half a season so far, with the second half coming back soon.

James is actually in Caprica, only a little but he'll be in the second half too.

He won't be in the second half... they said he could be potentially in season 2 if it takes but not season 1.5. They've already filmed that so it would show up on his IMDb page if he would be in season 1.5.

Didn't he say at the Caprice panel at comic con that he would be in the second half, I could of sworn he did, he said he'd be back at Caprice and Smallville!
