James wins Battle of the Network Stars

Spike may be fading in and out of Wolfram & Hart on "Angel," but he's front and center in the minds of Zap2it readers.
James Marsters, who plays the not-all-physically-there vampire on The WB series, easily won Zap2it's third annual Showdown of the Network Stars over his "Angel" co-star, David Boreanaz. He joins past winners Gillian Anderson ("The X-Files," 2001) and Jennifer Garner ("Alias," 2002) as the person anointed the top star in the TV universe.

The final tally wasn't close. Marsters received close to 22,500 votes to about 4,300 for Boreanaz.


It's also not surprising, given the level of fan ardor accorded Spike during his time on "Angel's" predecessor, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." News that Marsters was joining the cast of "Angel" helped ensure the show's return for a fifth season; it had been on The WB's bubble last spring. Marsters cruised to the win after defeating "Tru Calling" star Eliza Dushku, also a "Buffy" veteran, in the Final Four. Boreanaz topped defending champ Garner to advance to the finals.

Marsters also defeated John C. McGinley ("Scrubs"), Alexis Bledel ("Gilmore Girls"), William Petersen ("CSI") and Jennifer Aniston ("Friends") on his way to the title. Boreanaz took out Lauren Ambrose ("Six Feet Under"), Alyssa Milano ("Charmed"), Maura Tierney ("ER") and Lauren Graham ("Gilmore Girls") before facing Garner.

It wasn't even close!

That actually did surprise me as far as DB not even getting close...I figured he would take it or at least be neck and neck with all of the Angel fans I have come across...Well, I say yay...good for James!

But just wondering...what does Spuffy have to do with this anyway? It's about the actor not some on screen relationship. Calm down. Angel is going to get Buffy in the end so just let Spike/James have something over him without being so sore about it. It's kind of sad if this kind of thing can make you hate an actor. Why can't you just say good for him? It doesn't change how you feel about David anyway. He's still best to you and that is all that really matters. Don't let it spoil how you feel about other characters. It's only hell on you that way. But if you really WANT to let it ruin something for you then hey...at least that is what I have learned lately...
 
WOW, those are some major numbers, I think he should do more movies, I think he could really make it to the top.
 
He only won because Spike fans are obsessive, and care about minor crap like this, whereas David Boreanaz fans are more relaxed.

James won because he was obviously more popular than David. Simple as that. I don't see why James would be with obsessive fans and David would be without...every actor there, I'm sure, had obsessive fans. But in the end...the one who deserved the title, got it.
 
I agree Ninjalizer...and did you miss the begining of this thread? You say WE'RE obsessive? I doubt that the Angel fans out there are any better...he won because of a little thing called tallent. He is hot, yes, but a lot of people feel that way because of his character and how well it's played. And just as many people like David for the same reasons. Look arount the boards...there is more "DAVID IS SO HOT" than David is a great actor. David is cool and all but you don't need to be completely slamming James fans just because he did good and won some random award. THAT is not being "relaxed" at all. That seems pretty obsessive in itself actually. So you hate his character...doesn't make the fact that other people appreciate him any less valid.

Sorry if I offended you to the point that you felt the need to attack my bad spelling habits but you still don't need to be putting down Spuffy fans. If you don't agree please find a nicer way of saying it. It just sounds like you're trying to start a fight with comments like above...

WatcherWes, in all the threads I've ever seen you post in and all the comments I've ever seen you make, not once have you had anything positive to say. If BtVS and Angel really make you that angry all the time, why do you spend so much time on this board? And, more importantly, why do you continually attack the other folks in the board community? Disagreeing with other BuffyBoarders is part of what makes these threads interesting, but I'm fascinated by your need to continually lash out at other folks on a personal level.

I mean, if viscious negativity is really your bag, that's fine by me. But maybe you should discharge your venom on some other board for a while. You know, share the lack-of-love.
 
I don't have any idea what you're talking about. There are numerous posts where I don't express any personal opinions about other board members. The vast majority of the time I just comment on the shows, but when I see a thread this dumb, I express my views. Enjoy!

Seriously. I felt bad when I said something mean to WatcherWes after he was ripping on another member, but since then every single post I've seen him make has been horrible. I'm all for dry, sarcastic humor but do we really need to be so petty?

And now back to things that are *ahem* on-topic. I think it's really cool that James Marsters won the poll. He is a really talented actor and I think he deserves more recognition.
