Jane Espenson's view

Tonight i watched the special features on the season 5 DVD and something that took me by surprise was how Jane said that, Buffy related to Warren in regard to how he needed April because she went through a similar experience with needing Riley.

I for one didn't pick up on that when watching the show. Did anyone else? Thoughts?

Warren says of April that she was everything he wanted in a girlfriend. Literally, perfect in every aspect. Works in theory but not in practice.

Riley was the same for Buffy. He was perfect in every way. He loved her, was normal but still was "in the business" so to speak. He was funny, caring. They have a strong sex life. Her friends and family liked him. He liked them. He gave her sunlight and picnics and every other thing that she wanted. But it wasn't enough. As perfect as Riley was on paper, they didn't fit.

So, I can certainly see how she and Warren could relate in that respect. But, it is a bit of stretch given that Warren MADE April and Buffy, you know, didn't make Riley.
