I always wondered about this; when Giles tells her there's a demon on the Internet, he gets rather 'suspicious' because of Jenny's knowledge of the dark arts and occult -- "who are you"? -- but she never wonders even once why it is he knows so much about this stuff.

And in prophecy girl she comes over the the library because she suspects he already knows what's going on. And again she does asks questions about his knowledge and does not seem to be surprised by it in the least. Yet at that point she didn't know yet who either he or Buffy were.

So, I always wondered; how come she thinks this is so normal? Because he's bookish? A librarian? British?

I can't quite remember atm, was there ever really a specific scene where Jenny is shown to explicitly, officially learn about the Slayer/Watcher thing? I kinda remember it as her just knowing about who they were (probably due to her being the Calderash overseer of the Bad Hair Dude's suffering)...

Of course, that basically would just turn the question around - why isn't Giles more suspicious about it, before he learns of her role in the whole soul-curse, which only happens half an entire season later? Does he just assume every "techno-pagan" automatically will know "current Slayer: Buffy Summers, designated Watcher: Rupert Giles"?
 
The obvious answer is that the elders of her gypsy clan almost certainly were aware of Slayers and their Watchers, and told her that Buffy and Giles were the most logical candidates for the respective jobs. However, since we didn't know anything about her gypsy connection in Season 1 (and probably Joss hadn't imagined that whole sub plot as of then) I would say that Jenny had just been keeping track of the supernatural goings on around Sunnydale and had noticed that Giles and/or Buffy seemed to be tied in with those activities far more often than should be coincidental. With her "cyber pagan" status, she would have had access to quite a lot of accumulated data on the internet, she would be aware of Watchers and Slayers, and would have made a very informed guess that Giles and Buffy were the ones in question, or were at least involved in fighting demons and vampires.

You're right, that would be the most logical explanation. She did seem rather surprised learning Buffy was the slayer, in prophecy girl, though. And I (like to)think she was genuine ij her surprise.

The only thing we got to see was part of the conversation she had with Giles in the library during prophecy girl. She did seem to know what a slayer was (?)-- so i assume she also knew with a slayer comes a watcher-- but, like I said above, she seemed surprised to discover who the slayer was (Buffy)
 
Good question. I agree with [MENTION=6758]white avenger[/MENTION]. Her family surely knew about the watcher or that there exist much more people who know about demons and co.
 
I assumed she knew of it because of her gypsy clan. Seemed kinda strange early on in Season 1 though (At least for me on a first watch)
 
Interesting.

Maybe she was just more aware of it, and thought more people were, Giles grew up in a secret organisation who kept this big secret, Jenny was part of a people that had knowledge of this kinda thing, but were also out in the real world having jobs and stuff.
 
Assuming she didn't know Giles was the watcher and Buffy was the slayer(could be she was faking it all along, and she knew)I'm still not bothered by her not reacting that strangely to that there was atleast a few other people in Sunnydale who knew about demons and such. It was the hellmouth after all.

Taking her gypsyness in account today, her reaction seems realistic. Considering how she grew up, I guess knowing about the supernatural is, well, natural to her. Her first reaction might actually have been "Good, he's not a moron like the rest of the people in this town." This would most likely be, what is it called, "retconned"?, if we assume Joss didn't have plans for her and Angel's curse already in I Robot, You Jane. But it really fits, adding her backstory to the scenes. It works even without the backstory. She's just that cool and relaxed about demons.
 
Well, there is a scene in 'Prophecy Girl' in which Giles is seen to finishing up explaining to her about The Slayer...

Cut to the library. Giles is getting weapons out of the cage and
preparing them.

Ms. Calendar: Okay, so this Master guy tried to open the Hellmouth. But
he got stuck in it, and now all the signs are reading that he's gonna
get out, which opens the Hellmouth, which brings the demons, which ends
the world.

Giles: Yes. That about sums it up, yes.

Ms. Calendar: The part that gets me, though, is where Buffy is the
Vampire Slayer. She's so little.
 
The last couple of lines by Valjavertjinn is in accordance with what Joss stated. That a little blonde girl could walk down an alley without being afraid.

I had always assumed that she knew exactly who everyone was. She was there because the gypsies were keeping an eye on Angel and his curse. They had noticed him falling for the petite blonde with an amazing knack for kicking butt and taking names and decided to watch from a less covert position lest he stops the self-loathing, dark and broody deal he has had going on for the previous 80-odd years and re-affirms his love for the other white meat.

Assuming that they had been watching all this go on for at least a couple of months, they would have seen enough to work out that Buffy was the slayer and Giles her watcher. So I always took it as read that Jenny knew exactly what was going on from the beginning.
 
Another option is, a more simple one... Many people are into magic and supernatural, not just on the show. They love that subject and study it. So it's not THAT weird to see a man knowing all those stuff. And on the show, even the Slayer stuff. Like the three geeks knew about vampires and all the slayer stuff, and studied magic so they could use that information. There are books that anyone can read. And the internet. Maybe even the Slayer thing is written in some places.
