Jewel Staite is being called upon to assist the Legends of Tomorrow.

TVLine has learned exclusively that the Firefly and Stargate Atlantis alum will guest-star on the The CW’s upcoming, timey-wimey Arrow/Flash offshoot as Rachel Turner, a tech genius/roboticist who exists in a future in which technology has an even firmer grip on our lives than it does today. (Which apparently is possible…? I will let you know after I TweetBook a photo of my breakfast.)

A descendant of a long line of inventors — one of whom turns out to be someone from the DC Universe! — Rachel believes that her creations can make that world a better place. Alas, what the brilliant beauty cannot foresee is that her work is destined to fall into the hands of immortal baddie Vandal Savage, who will use it to take over the world. Unless Rachel can team up with the Legends to stop him.

Staite’s TV credits also include The Killing (as D.A. Caroline Swift, Holder’s girlfriend,) The L.A. Complex and Wonderfalls. She joins a Legends guest star lineup that thus far includes Matt Nable (Arrow‘s Ra’s al Ghul), Neal McDonough (Arrow‘s Damien Darhk), Stephanie Corneliusse (Mr. Robot) and Ali Liebert (Strange Empire).

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow premieres Thursday, Jan. 21 at 8/7c, where it will lead into Season 3 of The 100. Staite will appear in Episode 10.

Thats awesome. Good for her. That show will either be a massive success and unlike anything else or it will fail miserably and horribly.

I love JS. Pretty much ever since all her pregnancy related tweets and updates. She's hilarious. I hope she does well and doesn't miss her little one too much.

I've added "The Killing" on my Netflix list. I didn't know she was in it. Thanks!

I'm wondering if you will be able to follow this show with having seen the others first. I'll be watching it, but I never got into The Flash, either way I'm looking forward to seeing Jewel in it.

Not having seen LOT I can't say for sure BUT from the premise I think it won't require having seen The Flash. It's quite different.

True, but a lot of the cast came from either The Flash or Arrow, I guess it's kinda like watching Angel without having seen Buffy, you will be able to follow it easy enough but there will be references to the original show.

That is what I was going to say. As some of the 'heroes' are 'villains' on the parent show. I think you can watch it alone but you will lose some of the nuances. You've said you've not gotten into the Flash; did you watch Arrow?

@nightshade "yes, but I'm about 2 eps behind, I will watch them before it's back next week though" Then I would not worry about it.. just catch up when you catch up. Staite plays a character from the future so I doubt she will be in any episodes initially. She problem will not be in many episodes at all, so I would just get caught up and then watch LoT when you are up to speed. But I don't think there's 'a lot' you will have to catch up on, honesty. I think you could start off in this season of both shows since both shows were setting up Legends.

I'll be caught up before Legends starts anyway, the show hasn't started airing yet!

Caught up on Arrow before Legends, and did watch the crossover flash ep, which I think needed to be seen before Legends as they are really the lead eps into it.

Having now watched the first ep of LOT, I don't think you need to have seen anything from before. They recap the Shayera/Carter storyline so you understand what's going on, and that's really the only important reference to things that have happened on The Flash/Arrow.

They talk about Sarah being back from the dead, and tell you that Captain Cold and Heat Wave are villains. It really seems very separate from the other shows.

The first episode didn't do much for me to be honest but I'll give it an episode or two more. No matter what I guess I'll try to watch the episodes with Jewel in them.

I liked it more than I thought I would based on what people had been saying about it. I don't care much for most of those characters (and Shayera and Carter are two of my favorite comic characters and I don't think they did them justice) but I did enjoy the episode enough to keep watching. I am already shipping Leonard and Sarah lol, as improbable as that will be 😉

Completely agree. It was exposition heavy but remarkable very much a stand-alone. It was a surprise how quickly and easily they incorporated everyone's backstory.

I think it was really just a set-up episode and not much happened. It wasnt a great one, by any means. But moving forward I would suspect they get better.

Who aint. I ship Leonard and anyone really.

I'm sure it will. It's just that with the amount of shows nowadays, probably more than ever, you kind of get to hit the ground running to get your audience. There's not much patience. That goes for me as well. I watch way too many shows as it is. I should not watch new shows at all. Or drop a few before starting a new one. If I'm not convinced after 3 episodes I may still end up watching it all but after the season has ended.

Agree totally! but this is really a rare show and I think they had to make allowances in the first episode for viewers who did not do what Lampshade did. I think they could have just called it episode 0 really.

I agree with you, though I am TOO patient with shows and have resolved to not keep watching shows I don't enjoy hoping they'll get better. I axed Beowulf, War and Peace, and the Magicians pretty quickly.

I'm a couple of eps behind on this now, but I'm losing interest in it, the non Savage eps are far better than the ones with him in. I do hope he's not sticking around for season 2 as well
