Joann's Photoshop Disaster

ok so I've been wanting to do some art for a while now...and I decided I would start with some icons because it's the easiest and simplest way to start. I had to go to the art class thread and kind of read off what they were doing. and then I got stuck on how to change colors and stuff....anyways, here is what I have...

Finding the pictures I wanted and resizing them was the easy part. I still have trouble with the coloring and somehow making them stand out. Any tips are welcome!! Any criticism is allowed, I know I suck so you won't really be hurting my feelings 🙂 Just keep in mind that this is the first time EVER that I have worked on photoshop.

For your first time, I think you did an amazing job!!!! And I'm not sucking up, lol. The icon of Tara is especially awesome because her eyes really pop. Great work 😀

I wish i had the knowledge of photoshop to help...i did most my icons on my sig but i don't know how to mess with the colors like everyone here...but great work so far and i love the pics

You're doing good hun! Another tip that I forgot to tell you about was the good old overlay trick. Just fill a separate layer with white, then change the 'layer mode' to overlay. It's one of my favourite techniques that I use on almost everything.

You can play around with all the different types of layer modes. And play with different colours. I sometimes find this an easier way to colour an image then using the standard colouring as I have a bit more control over it.

You're doing well though! Keep it up!

They're good for your first time, you certainly know how to crop well. 😉
Just keep experimenting with things in photoshop, i'm sure you'll find your own thing sooner or later.

ok, I got off work at midnight and it is now almost 7 am. I have been working all night on Photoshop and I think i'm getting the hang of it, although I do need a lot of work!!! I tried doing more icons but there only so much i can do with them, so I started my luck on banners and here is what I got:
