Jodie's time as The Doctor is officially over

* Spoilers for The Power of The Doctor*

As an episode I think it was engaging, especially compared to what I've come to expect and the cameos were cool. But as a farewell episode to this era of the show it really just highlights how terrible it's been. The word to describe it is inconsequential. If you watch this episode, essentially everything from Flux feels like it never happened, the Timeless Child thing is completely ignored.

I think even the people who enjoy this era for Yaz/The Doctor as a ship shouldn't be pleased by this send off because that whole thing was ignored as well. They set up Yaz as being obsessed with The Doctor, but then they have her reach acceptance of The Doctor's death within 5 minutes, she gives her a dumb nod and then goes to a support group for ex companions. Talk about anti- climactic.

I was very pleased to see David and I liked the sneak peek we got to see. I hope the future is much brighter for Doctor Who.

Does anyone have thoughts about this past era and this goodbye episode?
 
Spanky never much cared for the Matt Smith version of the Doctor upon first watch. But as the years past and upon multiple viewings he was quite good in the role. As was Capaldi. Still don't care for Eccleston's Doctor, despite liking the actor. But Jodie Whittaker made Matt Smith look like Brando.

A real shame. Jodie deserved better than Chibnall and could’ve been fantastic.

I think Jodie could have been better with a better writer (like RTD) but still her performance wasn't good
When the actress states that 'the Doctor is on the page' (of the script) at the same time the showrunner says 'the Doctor is in the performance' then it was always going to be bad, but I don't think it had to be this terrible. Chibs has that unique combination of old school fanboy, ambitious storyteller and talentless hack writer that gave us some of the worst science fiction of all time; the culmination being The Timeless Child stuff. A reveal so illogical and so badly done it went a long way to destroying what used to be a Beeb sure-fire hit nationally and internationally.

I'm sure Jodie and Chibs will move on to better things- hard to see how they couldn't- but the fans are still left with the remains. Many of them, including myself, have moved on and see no point in returning.

Yeah the fandom is broken but I think a lot of people will come back to check out the new series next year because RTD has a good reputation and he's baiting everyone with David Tennant as a taster before they get to the main course of the new doctor 😅

I think if it's still not good next year it's time to pronounce Doctor Who dead for at least a while.
 
I haven't seen any since her first season. To be honest Im surprised its still going at all. I was forgiving of the "back to kids show" thing they had going with jodie at first, but wasnt gona bother to seek more of it out.

Whos next?

Yeah an actor can only do so much with the story they are given. Fingers crossed!

Jodie would seriously make a very good children's TV presenter or something like that, she has that energy. Maybe she's not a bad actress but she wasn't right for the role of The Doctor.

I think Ncuti Gatwa seems like he has the charisma to make a good doctor but I've never seen him act so only time would tell.

Totally agree. She has that "crack" energy all the kids shows seem to have. With that, and the costuming, it's what I thought they were going for in her first season.

I agree, I remember someone on here sharing this and I was wowed because it turns out Jodie can also sing. So she has skills they're just not really relevant to The Doctor.

 
I mean my only real concern is that Jodie’s era soured the fanbase on a female doctor.

I would love to see them give it a go again later, with a different actress. It would be really unfortunate if we lost that representation because of mismanagement :/
