Interesting article about the upcoming demise of HBO's "Game Of Thrones," and a fan's suggested replacement for it. I, certainly, would be all in favor, even though the obviously much lower budget would prohibit probably 95% of the CGI money allocated for the movie, if not all of it entirely .

Such a series could be done, simply by concentrating more on John Carter's time spent with the various human races of Barsoom, and less on his time with the Tharks, though Carter's friendship with Tars Tarkas took up quite a lot of the story line of the original trilogy. Those not familiar with Burroughs' original work might not be aware of the fact, but at least 2/3 of the story beginning with "A Princess Of Mars," and going on through "The Gods Of Mars," and "The Warlord Of Mars" concern the various human races, red, black, yellow, and white, rather that the green four armed giants. Simply concentrate on that part of the story, and the special effects budget could be kept in check.
Just a few suggestions from this fan. Totally eliminate the "Incredible Hulk" jumps employed in the movie. Burroughs certainly had Carter take advantage of the lower gravity of Barsoom, but only to a believable point, and, even then, only when so dong would advance the plot. Second, the Barsoomian white apes were only slightly larger than the Tharks, not the size of King Kong. Third, the method of Carter's traveling to Barsoom was always kept a total mystery. That added to the magic of the adventure. Finally, since so very few people seem to be able to suspend their disbelief enough to accept the living conditions on Barsoom, given the scientific evidence that we have today about Mars, figure out some plausible way to differentiate between Burroughs' Barsoom and modern Mars. Suggest different time lines, alternate dimensions, or establish that Carter traveled, not only through space, but also through time, arriving on Barsoom millions, or even billions, of years in the past.
Of course, I fully realize that this will never actually come to pass. I'm only hoping.
On the other hand, a whole lot of fans fully realized that they would never see "Star Trek" return after the original series was cancelled, and look what happened there.
