In S3E18 called "earshot" did anyone else think it a little weird for 1) Johnathan to kill himself at school and 2) Johnathan to use a scoped rifle to kill himself...kinda silly way to go out...

Well, the thing with the rifle is probably because he didn't have a better gun at home 😱
We also didn't really get to know Jonathan up to that point, so we can't really say that he acted untypical.

But we get to know him in the later seasons, and yes, it is very weird. And killing yourself in that tower at school is weird in general.

I just watch the episode yesterday and I think it was a good storyline and fit to Jonathan. It would be much better if they showed some more scenes with him. It was always heartbreaking when you saw him sitting alone on the steps and everybody was ignoring and laughing at him. Why a Riffle? I don't know. Yeah this was quite mysterious but it had flair!

I did think the gun thing was weird - I mean it seems like it would be a lot easier to shoot it with the barrel (is that the word?) pointed away from you than towards you - but I'm not really a gun person so I don't know for sure.... The doing it at school makes sense though - I think his intention was to make a statement. You know - 'you all ignore my pain - well here it is in your face' kind of thing.

No, I didn't think it was wierd. I think the episode showed that he felt really bad. When you're at the point that you want to kill yourself I don't think you're thinking rational, so maybe he took the rifle because that was what he had. The place might've been a way for him to get people to notice him, which was part of the reason he was feeling bad - he felt invisible. That can really, really hurt when you're a teenager (and a adult!), especially when it happens for a very long time, and it does lead to suicide.

I agree with [MENTION=10438]JCoatsworth[/MENTION] that when you later got to know Jonathan he didn't come across as a person that would kill himself, but then again: very few people does. There isn't characteristics or a specific personality type, there are so many reasons people feel like they've lost the will to live. And it is possible Jonathan grew from the experience and had become different at the point we learnt more about him.

I think that the location and the rifle was used to make it look as though he planned on killing others. So yeah, it seemed kind of weird.

Anyway, how did no one see him walking around with a rifle?

I don't think it's weird we all had them times at school where you want to kill yourself and show the people who hurt you what they have done. Plus maybe he choose school cause his parents are always at home and that no one is ever in that clock tower. A riffle? No not weird, it's quicker then stabbing and he didn't want to jump off the building cause he might hurt someone by landing on them etc because Jonathan said "I could never hurt someone.". I feel a lot for Jonathan I felt ingored a lot and I think everyone does, I do love Buffy's speech in it.

I think he wanted to kill himself at school so people would notice him and remember him, even if it was as the guy who killed himself in the school tower.

the gun choice, yeah weird. guess he didn't have anything better.
