[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isjg9O7ifwM"]Dark Shadows Trailer 2012 HD Johnny Depp - YouTube[/ame]

What do you think of the new Tim Burton/Johnny Depp spin on "Dark Shadows," the old horror soap opera from the 60's? Personally, while I lover both George Hamilton and Leslie Neilson in their comedy versions of "Dracula," a funny Barnabas Collins just doesn't appeal to me.

Of course, if I were totally honest about it, NOTHING that Johnny Depp has ever appealed to me, and Tim Burton doesn't exactly fill me with happy shivers, either.

Honestly I was excited at first, a 'Dark shadows' movie, yay.... then I saw the trailer... now I dread it and do not wanna see it at all. It just seems... utterly stupid if I am to be honest.

I think Johnny Depp needs to stop doing these weird, eccentric characters and do some serious work for a while. His last few roles have been rediculous parodies (minus that silly movie he did with Angelina Jolie) so its time for him to do something with some depth to it.
As far as Tim Burton goes? This man's style got old for me a long time ago. I really loved "Edward Scissorhands" and "Sleepy Hollow" but you can only watch a gothic movie starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter so many times before it's tired.

Sweeny Todd was amazing! When they get it right, its incredible! Johnny & Helena's performances were amazing and it just looked amazing - every scene! It is a great movie!!

Not too sure how I feel about this though. Will definitely check it out though. I love Johnny & Tim!

Omg, I saw this trailer a while ago and got all excited! I LOVE Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, I can't believe people don't like them!! lol 😱

I've never been interested in any of Tim Burton's movie. I fell asleep during Edward Scissohands... I can't find anything appealing about his movies. Plus, there's only so many gothic movies with the same kind of humor you can do before it gets real boring...

And does Johnny Depp even know how to play other characters anymore??? Feels like everytime we see him in a new movie, it's from Tim Burton.... *head meets desk*

LOL 😀 I think Tim Burton and Johnny Depp must have some kind of bromance going on, as your right, they are always collaborating on movies 😀

they are godfathers to each others children as well I think
I'm probably not going to see it, but Tim Burton's style was exciting and new when I was a kid. I've never seen anything like The Nightmare Before Christmas. It captured my heart and imagination like no other, and to this day, it's one of my all time favorite movies. I believe Tim Burton is extremely talented, he just sticks to the same formula over and over again, and it gets old really quick. And Johnny Depp is wonderful too, and him and Burton get each other, I believe. Hey, as long as its a good movie, I'm all for it. Nobody complained when Robert De Niro teamed up with Martin Scorcese for the thousandth time. 😛

That's because De Niro and Scorcese both had this little thing called "talent." Depp and Burton? not so much.

TNBC is why I fell in love with Tim Burton.
Awwww, I like Tim Burton and Johnny Depp 🙁

I haven't seen everything Burton has done, but Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands are two of my favourite movies ever!

But you guys are right, it really is starting to get old.

It started to get old for me around the time of Willy Wonka. I mean, I didn't hate the movie, it was okay. But it was just totally unnecessary. The original is a freakin classic that has stood the test of time, why was there a need for a new one?! And as much as I like Johnny, Gene Wilder was way better as Willy Wonka!

Can't agree more!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't have anything against Tim Burton or Johnny Depp, but this movie doesn't interest me enough to go see it in theaters. To be honest, I wish both would branch out and try something new. I'll probably watch it once it comes out of netflix, if I even remember it.

I saw it last night, it was okay. I really liked the costumes, the make up and the photography but it's not the best movie of the season for sure.

Wow, I've never seen so much butthurt in a thread before. I do admit that Tim's movies have slipped since Sweeny Todd (even though he only produced it, "9" was amazing) but have faith, he's returning to his claymation root's with a remake of his own movie short "Frankenweenie" and producing "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" in 2012.

I had no idea that Burton was connected to "Abraham Lincoln: vampire Hunter."
I read the book when it first came out just out of curiosity, and was pleasantly surprised with it. Hopefully, as long as he's just producing and not directing, he won't be able to screw it up too badly.

And that's not "butthurt," whatever that is, it's just my honest opinion about someone whose talents I find questionable, at the very least.

Do you think when all the production people and Tim Burton sit down to make a movie, and someone asks, "Who should we get to star in it?", they just sit around laughing for a few hours?

The first time I was shown this trailer, my rage knew no bounds. Lol. It was pretty much "Just what in the bloody blue feck did I just watch??!!!!" 😛

While I did enjoy Burton's "Batman" (only the first movie), and his "Edward Scissorhands".....I cannot stand anything else he has been involved in.

Just to note, I happen to like Johnny Depp. He has quite a lot more talent than his detractors in this thread give him un-credit for. Just wish he'd stop doing Burton's flicks. This latest one is disaster incarnate.

I forgot about "Batman"... That one was awesome too.
Tim Burton films have never appealed to me what so ever. I liked Depp in the first Pirates of the Caribbean film but that's about it. I don't understand Tim Burton doing the same sort of gothic off the mark films and always having Helen Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp in his movies. It's just really off putting to me personally. So I doubt I'll ever see Dark Shadows or have the desire to watch it at a later date.

Don't get me wrong Depp has talent but it would be nice to see him do more movies that don't have Tim Burton attached to them.

I agree.

I've always been a J. Depp fan, he's done a lot of movies I enjoy, it's mostly these last couple of years that I've grown kind of weary of him and especially due to his constant collaboration with Burton. It's just... same-same by now, it's boring, I think Depp can act so I would like to see him "outside the box" again, not just doing eccentric roles for the sake of being eccentric (or loyal to his friend)

It's just like a certain Swedish director who always casts his wife in the lead role. After like 15 years or so people are feeling a little bored with the concept y'know.... shake it up, take a risk, cast someone you don't already have on speed dial...

Just an update here:

Our son and his family are in Indonesia visiting his in-laws at the moment, so I took my wife out to dinner and a movie in his place. Of course, she wanted to see "Dark Shadows," so I agreed to go. I have to say one good thing about the movie, one scene that made the whole experience worthwhile. After watching Barnabas Collins and the witch have their big sex scene, I finally know what Buffy's big reunion with Angel in Season 8 must have been like. I now recommend that all Buffy fans see the movie just for that one scene.
