Jane Espenson said in an interview that she always sort of wished Jonathan would become part of the Scoobies. Does anyone else wish this would have happened. I love Andrew but I just always kind of felt like Jonathan wanted to be part of the group and never really knew how to break into their little circle.

Hmmmm....that's hard to say. I did kind of like him in Superstar. I mean he blended with the cast well. And I loved him when he was evil.
I'd have liked him to fit in, but I can't say how he would have. Especially since everyone else seemed to be going UP on the "coolness" meter and he never really did.
It would have been cool if he had been TRYING to fight with his own "scoobie gang" next to them for at least 1 season. Like maybe S4 before he turned evil. That I would have LOVED!

Well I think Jonathan would have been a great scoobie.
Jonathan was quite weak in the trio and at school and college. Still the way he died was so sad and horrible the way Robin Wood rolled him into that hole . Poor Jonathan x

yeah, that wouldve been awesome! i really liked johnathan, and he had a lot of crummy luck. even if just for a little while, it might have been cool to see him be part of the gang.
that might have been kind of interesting too, though. he'd have to watch everyone else get cooler, and have to deal with the fact that he wasnt.

I wouldnt have minded Jonathan being a Scooby. Andrew was one of best in s7, cant imagine Jonny being as funny, but he'd still be good.
He could easily have fit in next to Giles and Willow in the 'Research' team, Giles could even Watcher train him.

I liked Jonathan but I cant really imagine him fitting in with the scooby gang so well. I think it was good that he was somewhat of a reoccurring character over the years and I think that was enough.

The ONLY cool ones was Buffy Spike and maybe Anya.
Xander Willow Tara Dawn and Reilly were not cool.

First let's get Dawn, Riley and Tara out of the way. WE don't know what they were like before. Tara could have been MUCH cooler than she was in highschool and I have to imagine that even as big of a pain as she was, being human kind of makes Dawn cooler than whatever she was before....or maybe not....hard do say about a ball of energy. Still, she's not their age so it doesn't matter.
Riley was at least cool for being "mysterious" army guy and we also don't know how big of a dweeb HE was in highschool...I'm guessing, pretty dweeby.
However, since the beginning, Xander went from someone Cordy wouldn't even bother listening to much less caring about to her "main squeeze" and since she's the coolest girl in school we have to imagine his "coolness" level rose. It waffled in S4, but he regained it once he got his construction job.
And Willow was dating a guitarist...which I hear boosts your coolness level. Plus, she also turned "friend" to Cordy after a while. By the time she hit college she had all those hip haircuts and clothes and "fit in" with the college crowd....hence her happiness on the first day of college.
These may not seem like GIANT waves of coolness, but when we see Jonathan in college, he's no more evolved than he was when we first saw him. And in S6...he's still a sniveling dweeb. (An adorable one that I love, but I've got a weak spot for sniveling dweebs as Willy well knows!)
