Joss... A jerk?

Okay, to begin with, I'm really not saying Joss is a jerk! I love Joss! He's my hero! But I heard from a girl at my school who is a die hard buffy fanatic told me he was a jerk. I didn't believe her, so I asked her why and here's what she said (she launched into a huge complaint about the man!)

"Okay, first off... He fired Charisma Carpenter because she had a baby... A BABY! What'd be expect her to do.. Kill it..." I asked her what makes her think he fired her (i never knew for sure what happened to her.) and she said "Well... What happened is Charisma got pregnant before the season started and this pissed Joss off because the writers had to figure out some way, which was pretty crappy might I add, to write her baby into the script and the only way they could think of to do it was have Cordy get pregnant with Connor's baby. Then after she had the baby she was supposed to do this scene but couldn't. Joss got fed up and he fired her. And I read an interview where Joss *yelled* at the fans to shut up and stop going on and on about the whole wonder woman thing. Neither Sarah or Charisma will be playing wonder woman so stop hounding him... Psshh... What a jerk!"

I don't know what this whole wonder woman thing is... Maybe somebody could explain it to me and also give me something to go along with this rant about Joss being a jerk... He never seemed jerkey-like to me! (not jerkey as in the yummy tasting meat...)

See, I didn't see what the big deal was... MANY shows write around their lead characters becomming pregnant, and I've seen it done REALLY well for many of them... I just finished Season 4 of Angel myself, and I'd hafta say, they could have done a better job with it... So, my thoughts on the situation were that he should have taken a better look at his writers...

Also, Charisma would have had a contract with Joss to do Angel, and if he "fired her" for becomming pregnant, I think he would possibly have a HUGE lawsuit on his hands... Not to mention, pissed off cast members...

Yea, I totally agree with Amber Benson about the whole lawsuit thing!! I hope that he's not a jerk, but I guess only his family, and close friends REALLy know!! But, I'm also not saying that your friend is a liar! But, if that is true about him firing her because she was pregnant, then that really sucks, and totally not fair!!! ::huh1::

Here's a suggestion Slaying Spuffy. Find out the name of your friend's favourite actor or actress, and tell her you heard he/she was a practising satanist who bragged about owning black candles made from baby fat.

My point being anyone can say anything about anyone. (Oh, and don't actually do what I suggested OK. 🙂 I was just trying to make a point)

Yes there are rumours concerning some kind of friction between Charisma and Joss, but there is no concrete evidence supporting any of it. It's just mudraking rumours created by people who enjoy that kind of thing.

This kind of black rumour mongering is not restricted to Joss either. Hell, I could link you to sillies that are mongering rumours concerning Sarah Michelle Gellar that would make you think she's the blood kin to Lucifer. (If you're foolish enough to buy into them, I mean.)

That interview doesn't exist. At least not in that angry tone. The reason I'm confident saying that, is because if it did exist, it would be the most quoted interview in all of Whedondom.

Absolutely agreed about the Wonder Woman "incident". There is no way that this happened in the way your friend described.

For one thing, it just isn't Joss' style but there is a more obvious bit of evidence to disprove it as well. Absolutely every word that Joss says to the fanbase ends up on the internet and gets discussed over and over again. If he really had yelled at people in the way your friend suggested it would still be a hot topic today. Trust us, NEVER happened! 😉

The Charisma thing is a different matter, although whatever did happen doesn't make Joss a jerk. It would be just as easy to believe the rumours that make Charisma sound like she started acting like a total bitch, forcing Joss to replan season four to fit around her personal schedule. That isn't the case either but you certainly hear people stating that it is. People hear bits and pieces of the facts and put them together to suit whatever they want to believe, depending on whether they want to side with one person or the other.

In truth, neither Joss or Charisma have come forward with all the details of what happened, not that they should have to, that is their private business and nothing to do with us, quite frankly. For whatever reason, something happened that made it difficult for Joss and Charisma to continue working together. Which one was to blame, if either one was at all, may never be known but usually in life you find that neither party in an argument is entirely innocent so perhaps they both did things at the time that they regret now. Again, we may never know but until we actually do i see no point in believing the rumours or throwing blame at people when you don't have all the facts.

Maybe you should tell your friend to come have a read of this thread, that might clear a few things up for her. 🙂

In my eyes it would be 3, because I did read an actual interview with Josss where he explained how the hardest thing he ever had to do was learn how to be the boss, and make decisions where he had to treat others tough. He also said he strove even when firing people to treat them in a human way, and not let them leave feeling shamed.

He'd be the consummate liar if what that kid said was by some miracle true, because everything I've ever read about Joss tells me he's your ideal nice guy type, and well-loved by those who know him.

surely the fact that Charisma came back for an episode of season 5 suggests nothing of the sort happened. If it had been that bad surely joss wouldnt want her, or she wouldnt wanna come back?
the woman wanted to have a baby. maybe she just wanted to take some time off to look after it? if she was still on angel when her baby was born she wouldnt get to be with it that often.

I wouldn't call her my friend. I can't stand her, actually. She's really stuck up and she lies alot (can ya believe that!) I mean she's a hardcore liar. She tells people she's having a baby and stuff. It's dumb.

Now she's telling me that David Boreanaz is getting a seperation from his wife because she told him their son is adopted or something. The point is I don't really believe her.

Jerk or not, Joss is awesome.
