From all of the furor that less than an hour of "Dr Horrible" has stirred up, plus all the anticipation for "Doll House," do you get the feeling that we are helplessly and hopelessly addicted and have to have our Joss fix at every opportunity?
 
I think so. Some of us more than others. I think there are some people who would follow Joss around in a stupor and watch anything he puts out there, no matter how cruddy or mean it is (his version of Dethklok's "Fan Song," for example), and absolutely adore it. I think most people, though, just really like his style and watch most of it but keep their brains and admit it when stuff doesn't sit quite well with them. But I don't think addiction is the wrong word.

My husband said Dr. Horrible would be too short to put on DVD and that no one would buy it. I laughed in his face and said that 1.) anyone who can call Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion and say, "Wanna sing on a bloggie thing and be evil" and have him not hang up the phone has powers that make anyone do anything. And 2.) everyone's already downloaded it on iTunes and I don't know about everyone else, but I spent a good 5 hours trying to figure out if I could put it on DVD myself. The "sheep" will have NO PROBLEM buying the DVD....just to have it.
 
I hated the freaking ending and am still miffed at Joss over it. Guess what? I'll be buying the DVD when it comes out.

BAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Yes, I am a Joss sheep. But then again, why shouldn't I be one? 99% of everything he does is absolutely brilliant. And I certainly plan to buy the Dr. Horrible DVD and soundtrack, even though I already have all 3 episodes on my iPod...it's just, how can I resist Commentary! - The Musical?
 
GREAT! Now we need a farm hand for pooper scooper and sheep sheering duty or we'll all end up stinky and with dreadlocks!
Maybe we could sell the wool for bandwidth!

I just love the work he does, nothing else i have come across has the emotion and quality of his writing.

i cried at the end of Dr. Horrible, an excellent ending... to go that dark and have us gripped and caring so much for the characters. I mean look we've went Banner crazy here on BB with Dr. Horrible (me included)

Cant wait for the DVD!


Joss Whedon has spoiled me... nothing will ever live up to what he has created.

I know what you mean about his work spoiling us. I always wind up comparing things to Buffy, even though I know the latter will always win out.

I'll by the DVD of Dr. Horrible, and I'll by pretty much anything else with the words 'Joss Whedon' anywhere in the credits. Hell, he could be the freaking caterer and I'd probably buy it.

Joss has been part of our lives for so long, his engrained in our brains. It's, like, a sickness! We all have Joss-Love Disease. (hey, two brand new ailments in one night. Go me!)

I admit, not everything he's done has worked out for the best, but 99% of it has, and isn't it worth watching the other 1% if we end up getting something as ground breaking and life changing as BTVS at the end of it?
 
Thats so true, not for us all I'm sure but for how long he's been in mine. Lets see how long ago did buffy start? lol

Its been in my life over half of my life (im 20) so its a whole part of me.... ADDICTED may not be a strong enough word....
 
I honestly don't mind being a sheep.

I feel it's based on something deeper than the people who just go to a movie because George Clooney is in it.

I applaud Joss' writing ability and his thinking ahead so far in advance. I thank him for not recasting or treating us like idiots who don't remember who was who just last season.

I also think he's got an uncanny ability to pick the people to play his characters. He doesn't fall into the "who's the coolest actor available" trap and he's GREAT at finding people that we've never seen before (or if we have we didn't know it) and showing us exactly how much they can do.

I think that kind of talent and genius DESERVES a sheeplike following. He's yet to let me down, and until he does, I'll be a sheep.
Even the end of Dr. Horrible NOT being what I would have liked the best, the bulk of it was so fabulous I didn't really mind. I liked Penny, but in all honesty, it doesn't hurt me all that much that she didn't live. At least he didn't make her as lovable or hate-able as he did Horrible and Hammer.

Plus, who doesn't love a random musical? I'm glad he finally realized that as a species, we need MORE musicals!

I find that even if I don't personally like what he's come up with I still think the work/concept itself impressive and amazing.

For example, Firefly. I could never get into that or like it very much because it had some many conventions of a Western Genre and for some reason I can't explain ever since I was a little girl I've HATED Westerns. However Firefly quotes make me laugh (The funny ones make me laugh. Not the serious ones. Because that would be inapprorpriate and make me seem kinda weird and insensitive), I love the characters themselves and I think the idea was neat. It just wasn't for me.

And I think even though I thought personally the Buffy movie was ATROCIOUS, the TV series proved that we can go 'Well, I can totally get what he was going for'.

And if Joss is involved in a project I am more inclined to watch it, not because I'm a Joss Sheep per se, but rather his success rate is rather good and I find most stuff he does blows me away. So considering the percentage odds, yeah I'll tune in to what he's done. I mean I didn't buy into the Dr Horrible hype. I was like 'Yeah, sounds good. Maybe I'll give it a peep' I peeped and fell into obsessy-love. So maybe I'm an inadvertent Joss Sheep.
Also, I think part of the willingness to follow his work and buy a DVD of a not very long online musical you've already bought from iTunes is unlike a lot of other executive producers/creaters/production company owning people he isn't full of himself. Or if he is he keeps it rather quiet. In interviews etc he seems very down to earth, he's always seen to treat staff like a classroom of friends rather than employees and he actually gets fans and doesn't shoot a load of you-know-what at us, but instead gives honest, and often amusing, responses to his plans/reasons behind things he's already gone and done without telling.

It's the whole bag. And I guess we're addicted. Whether we planned to be or not.
 
a random thing that annoyed me t'other day a friend slagged Joss off saying he stole the name 'Buffy', i tried to let it slide and then asked.... his repsonse.

"Well he stole the whole idea off that crappy film... i guess he bought the license or something"

Id rather be obsessed than like that.... yeah i corrected him and he couldnt understand because he said he hadnt seen Joss's name on the credits anywhere.... grrr.. and may I add an 'argh!'

Should we form some sort of support group? We could call it "Jossaholics Unanimous," and hold regular meetings once a week where we take turns standing up and admitting, "I'm a Jossaholic because..." In numbers, there is strength.
 
I'm not sure the term "Jossaholics" would totally cover it....depending on exactly how much Jed and Zack had to do with the making of Dr. Horrible.
I may have a mental crush on the entire line of DNA!

I don't think I've been a Whedon fan long enough to call myself a sheep, but I definitely wish I'd tuned in sooner.

Whedon has a talent that manifests in ways not seen in a lot of other shows, and that is what makes his stuff so dear to us. Not only is it great, but it's unique. His ability to slice and dice and mix around genres is one of the many that gets me every time. So far he's created worlds of horror/fantasy/action/dramedy, sci-fi/western/dramedy, and just recently, the musical blog. And he's not done. The term genre exists for a reason: to generalize. Well Whedon just blows that term out of the water, in my opinion.

In addition to that, his writing is top notch. And this goes for his whole crew, too. I mean, refresh the Buffy Boards main page a few times. You'll get a quote that'll make you want to pee your pants, and you'll get a quote that'll sober you up so quickly, you'll feel bad for laughing in the first place. Approriate or innapropriate, his shows have got it all. It's these things, and so many more, to which we all react, even if we may not realize it. It's why he has this lovely cult following of the "helplessly and hopelessly addicted," as white avenger put it. So yes, we are all ga-ga over Joss, but really, who better to be addicted to?

I'll admit, I haven't experienced everything that he's made. I haven't watched the Buffy movie, and I don't plan to read any of the comics. Still, though, having said all of this, I think I'll deem myself a Whedon Ewe. Baa!

I´m a sheep? Never thought in those terms. But I guess I am since as soon as I see his name on "something" I know that I need to check it out. I know I love his style so I won´t risk to miss anything. I´m ashamed to say that I was a bit uncertain about both Firefly and Fray. And now I love them both, so at this moment I trust him completely. So ok, I´m a sheep and proud of it. Baaaaaa! Oh, sorry. Of course I´m a swedish sheep. Bäääääääää!

I don't need a Whedon fix. Surely, I need my daily Buffy/Angel episodes, but that's just the show, not because it's from Joss Whedon.
I'm probably gonna be like the weirdo outsider, but I didn't even watch Dr.Horrible Singalong. Nor Firefly. And Dollhouse I will watch, but only as long as it's interesting.
Joss Whedon being involved into something doesn't make it obligatory for me to watch.
 
I wouldn't say that I got a Joss addiction.
It's more a Buffy addiction.
The problem is that when you start watching an episode you can't stop until you seen them all. Then you got to get your act togheter and not start all over again immedietly.
Got something similar going for Firefly, but it's not as bad since it isn't that many episodes.

Did have very serious addiction to Friends though, for many years I would watch several episodes per day. I have recovered now 🙂

I would consider myself a sheep - even though, i ashamed to say, i've never watched Firefly. I've seen bits and pieces -my husband loves it but i just haven't found the time to watch. But apart from that i've followed everything Whedon. I was a bit meh about Dollhouse (sounded a bit 'fantasy island-ish') but Dr. Horrible was just so great, the man's a genius and i'm sure Dollhouse will rock. And i've just been reading "Faith and Choice in the Works of Joss Whedon" and there is a lot of stuff on Firefly in there - colour me intrigued. I'll just have to make the time to watch it! Baaaaaaaaaa.
