Joss And "Terminator 5)"

I was just reading this about the "Terminator" franchise, primately to get some information about the next movie, and I stumbled on the fact that Joss Whedon actually bid for rights for the franchise back in 2009 when it was going to be auctioned off. You can read it here, paragraph 2 under the "Terminator 5" subtitle:

Granted, it was a really pitiful offer ($10,000) but just imagine what Joss could have done with the character. Course, some folks might say that Arnie's getting a bit "mature" for the role, but I think he's got another "I'll be bahck," or two left in him. After all, he ain't much older than I am.
 
I would have quite liked to see that happen! This used to be a franchise I enjoyed, I'm sure Joss could have made me enjoy it again.

I like how they put a photo of Buffy Saint-Marie on Contact Music every time they mention Joss or BtVS!
 
I read that somewhere as well. Story and character-wise, I'm sure, he could have met the standard of the first two movies. I haven't watched the fourth movie, which I hear is terrible, but the third one was mediocre at best.

Yeah, I wasn't too fond of the third movie either, and the first time that I saw number 4, with Christian Bale, I didn't care for it, either. Then I watched it once more right after rewatching the TV series, and, whether by accident or design, Number 4 seems to pick up where the series leaves off, with Number 3 taken completely out of the loop, which makes it make a lot more sense. Still not my favorite, but it makes at least a bit more sense.

(For those unfamiliar with the series, it is supposed to take place between Numbers 2 & 3, and the way that it ends, Number 3 couldn't have happened.)
 
The 4th movie fits in fine after the 3rd movie story wise too even if you discount the tv show (which I have never seen). Although I agree that the 3rd movie was awful I actually enjoyed the Terminator Salvation a lot. Of course I would have enjoyed a little more of Moon Bloodgood and Sam Worthington together.
 
Guess I'm in the minority for liking the third instalment lol!

The TV series ends with John Connor being sent into the future to the time after Judgement Day and leaves him there, creating an anomaly, cancelling out everything that happened in T3. I don't know whether that was intentional, in order to change the basic story line of the movies, or just the way that the TV writers chose to wrap it up, but it does explain why Connor is just a soldier in the Resistance army, rather than the commander.

Yeah that would make sense. Hmmm, maybe ill check out the show.
 
Back in 2009 Zack Whedon wrote "Terminator 1984" comic with quite an intriguing twist on the past events, so maybe Joss had/has an idea for a re-imagination of the franchize. If only... 🙁
