From SciFi Wire:

Will Joss Whedon make a new show for cable TV?

That's the tantalizing hint presented by FX president John Landgraf, speaking with reporters on Sunday and saying that he's having lunch with the creator of Dollhouse and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Here's how the Futon Critic Web site reported it:

"Actually his representatives called and scheduled a lunch, I think I'm supposed to have lunch with Joss in the next two or three weeks," FX president John Landgraf told reporters when asked about working with the cult-favorite producer during the network's executive session at the TCA this morning.

Dollhouse ends with a series finale, "Epitaph Two: Return," on Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.

I hope it's a supernatural/horror/sci-fi type show if Joss ends up making a show for them. 🙂

Ahhhhh that would be awesome if they did get together and create a new show... maybe in my fantasy world FX picks up Dollhouse and continues with it 🙂

That would be fantastic and Joss did say when DH was cancelled that he would be back in the New Year with his (very secret) plans.

I hope Joss gets onto a minor network, maybe SyFy, that lets him have unlimited creative control. He has been screwed by FOX too often.

Weird, cos my mum said to me the other week ago, that her friend in work said that Joss was doing another show, or something.
I was like 'No i don't think so, i would of heard of this!'
haha.

Oh i do hope he makes a new show.

Sounds good. Wasn't Buffy on cable channels in the US? Should be less pressure with the ratings and everything.

No, Buffy or Angel weren't.
I don't think Joss even really wants Dollhouse to continue at this point... he seems pretty well done with it. FX might be looking to pick up the cable broadcast rights for the series, though.

FX might also be looking to partner with Joss for web-based material. They'd give him the funding to do his stuff on the web, maybe on a pay-per-view basis, and would have the exclusive rights to broadcast them on TV and to pick up any series that might spin off from them.

Or they may ask him to develop a TV series... but they'll have to make a mighty good offer to lure Joss back to TV just yet, I think. A guaranteed, budget, complete creative control, and commitment to show all the episodes, and in order.

It's probably just a coincidence, or wishful thinking on my part, but we have Joss, Eliza, Amy, and Summer all together and basically out of work at the moment. "Faith The Vampire Slayer" has a really nice ring to it. What's James doing currently? I'm certain that Spike and a small harem...uh...team of demon fighters would make for a great series. Spike, Faith, Illyria, and Summer could play Dana (lord knows she's got the crazy girl thing down pat) or maybe an updated Slayerbot (she's done that one, too) or maybe a witch, or half demon, or...The mind boggles. Have you ever seen a boggled mind? Not a pretty sight, let me tell you.

Amy is starring in a new show on ABC. Eliza has a few new movies coming out/in the works.
I really think Joss should take this opportunity.

He is definitely going to want to make a new show in the future, and the opportunity is striking now. I say go for it.

I SAID that it might just be wishful thinking. It would still be great.
I'd love to see him do his long-planned "Ripper" series next. (But I'd rather see him do it with the BBC.)

It would be interesting to see how Joss would reconcile a "Ripper" series with what's going on in the comics.

James would do a movie, but I doubt a TV show simply because it would be next to impossible to de-age him by 2 decades for 22 weeks per year.

They could get around that quite simply by having Spike be exposed to something, magic or scientific, that causes him to age, or to even become some sort of super powered human (not the Shashu, that's Angel's alone). Maybe he could even tick off a gypsy clan who would revoke his immortality. Simple. And if I can come up with something in just a few moments, Joss SHOULD be able to come up with a really good way to explain Spike's aging.

As I said originally, though, it's all just wishful thinking. Though I would gladly settle for a movie, even a direct to DVD one, if it got us some new Buffyverse action.

They could make Marsters look the same again. Just dye his hair, give him a leather coat and throw some makeup on him, finishing touches done by computer. Easy. Then we've got Spike the series. If i was a millionaire i'd personally fund this.

So just hoping for the best then. But I don't want to sing and dance of joy just yet. But fingers crossed for sure.

A chow on cable would be cool!

I actually hope he stays away from anything he's done before (And definetly not a Spike show - it would just be Angel 2.0!)

I like his other ideas, Firefly was so different and Dollhouse again, so I hope he tries something new again, especially since cable shows have a different feel to them, I wouldn't want to see that applied to older characters.

But something new and darker then he's done before would be awesome!

Nah. He's aged a lot. I remember James saying he would play Spike if it was within a 7 year span. I think that time slot has closed.

I agree, though. Obviously, I'd like a Spike series.

But personally? I'd love a whole new series set in the Buffyverse, perhaps A Tale of the Slayers, or Tales of the Vampires, like something before Buffy took place, or perhaps the 'Ripper' idea Andrew brought up. Or something totally new. Or maybe a new installment of Dr. Horrible? Actually, anything new from Joss is always good in my book. 🙂

Above all else though, I just wish Firefly could be started up again. There was so much potential there.

i think joss should talk to the CW.

honestly, the CW would welcome joss with open arms. smallville is their best show (i think) and it has lower ratings than dollhouse.

dont get me wrong, im not putting down smallville; im just saying that dollhouse would be a perfect fit on the CW.

those large network pieholes can kiss my #$%. they dont know what good shows are unless they have "CSI" in their title. hey, random thought, maybe joss should have named it CSI: Dollhouse?! the ratings would go through the roof!
