AVC: But we should give up on that Giles spin-off, Ripper, right? Come on.

JW: Oh yeah, totally. [Laughs.] No, the thing about Ripper"”the essence of it"”is that the BBC came to me at one point like, "It doesn't have to be Ripper. It can just be [Anthony Stewart Head], and there's magic, and he's Tony, cuz he's awesome." And that's the thing: For some reason, he keeps getting sexier every year. That's not happening to me! I'm like, "What are you doing?" And that story was always about a mature guy who's lived, and about the choices he's made. So you could make that now, or you could make it 10 years from now. And I've tortured Tony more than any other living human with, "We're definitely gonna do this!" Because I thought we were. He's working so much, though, I'd feel too guilty. But that's the thing with Ripper: It doesn't go away in my head because he's still right for it, and he could still bring it.

I so hope they're gonna do this! With lots and lots of guest stars like Sarah, Alyson, James, Alexis and Eliza! 🙂

Word 'bout Ethan!
We can just hope it does happen, someday. I'd love to see a Ripper show. 🙂 A younger actor could play him in flashbacks. There could be a couple Buffyverse guest appearances too, like JC said.

OH AND ETHAN ******** RAYNE! 😀 😀 😀 😀

Yes! How could I forget him? I think we saw way too little of him in BtVS.

I'd love to see one, too, although I now doubt we'll see one with ASH. Sorry, I'm old school, I still can't get used to him without 'Stewart' in his screen name. If they did do it though, I could see James McAvoy as a young Giles.

ASH only used "Stewart" in his American appearances - never in the UK. I think he was trying to avoid confusion with another actor of the same name.
Considering the way that Season 8 ended, though, I'm not sure how Joss could pull it off without either ignoring the canon as he, himself established it, or operating in some sort of parallel universe situation, cause Tony may be getting sexier ever year (most of us older guys do) but he's also getting OLDER, and, like James said, there's only a certain amount of time in which a character can be played before the actor is just too old to pull it off anymore. And as for playing Giles as an ancient, very wise, wizard who is the mentor of a new generation of young heroes, isn't that Merlin?

Or Dumbledore. Or Gandalf. The possibilities are endless. :-)

Joss said that if he were to have to do something else Buffy related, he'd toss aside the canon of comics.
I think considering what is happening in Angel and Faith, that Joss may already be channeling his ideas for 'Ripper' into this comic, and if that is true then that makes me all the more unhappy that it didn't come to be. Realistically I don't think this show will ever happen, we are too near to the point of no return when it comes to a buffy spin off on tv.

I want this to happen more than I love life itself. And I love life so much. If Antony would be in it I would DIE of happiness. I would.

Best regards/your local BB drama queen

I agree with both comments. Even if they had a young actor play him as a young man, he couldn't get any older than he is about right now, because of the season 8 event-that-shall-not-be-named.

@SlayerOfVampyrs agrees: Joss said that if he were to have to do something else Buffy related, he'd toss aside the canon of comics.
Yes, he did say that. But hasn't it been awhile? I think the more that time goes on, the more he might back away from that. He could do it as a "pre-season 8" project, but again, soonish.

Then again, we have no idea where season 9/A&F are going to end up.

But overall, if he's going to do something in the Buffyverse, I'd rather see him put his energy toward a Fray movie or TV series, or miniseries. I mean seriously, she's a likeable character, people are into the dystopian future stuff, it furthers the Slayerverse...what's not to like? I want, nay I need, MORE FRAY!!

Oooo...YES! Fray! I'd be very interested in that.

I know I won't. I never considered them canon anyway 😉 Other than that, of the people who watched BtVS the big majority never read the comics to start with, so that wouldn't be a real problem either.

But, sadly I don't think Ripper will ever say the light of day, even if only because Joss an Tony both seem to have moved on and are too busy with other things 🙁

Stop it Joss! Don't mock me like this, you can't taunt me with a Giles spin-off and not deliver. I must have it!
