Miracle Laurie I thought was terrible on DH and I doubt they'd put her in as WW, she's a bit doughy for a superheroine.

She's beautiful but just not really the 'right' look. I keep seeing Eliza as WW in my head. Damn!
 
If Eliza gets anywhere near this movie, I might consider boycotting it.

I hope he doesn't put any Whedon alums in the movie, so far most have proven themselves as TV actors, there is a huge difference between TV and summer blockbuster and next to some of those huge names they could look awful.

There are a few people who could pull it off, I think, and as much as I love that Joss likes these people so much that he's willing to give them a job in whatever he's doing, I'd really like him to succeed at something on his own, just him.

Have the major characters already been cast? I heard something about the big players already been dealt with, I just don't know who's been cast.
 
I don't think he will actually cast any of the Whedonverse actors, maybe NPH because he is a genuine big name but I can't think of a role for him to play (Dr. Horrible 😛). If he gives Dushku a role he is an absolute fool.

Edward Norton has stated that he wants to appear in The Avengers, and wouldn't mind seeing The Hulk as the bad guy.

Now THIS is exciting news! - I'm psyched! Movie due for release in, what? 2012? A lot can happen between now & then!... and of course, I'd give ANYTHING to see James Marsters make an appearance! ~sigh~ ....but I won't hold my breath. And why are so many Dushku haters here? I love her.

True there are some, I think Amy Acker could pull off a science nerd in a movie, but in no way a big character.

Summer, maybe, either a science background person or a fisher, but I couldn't imagine her with a character part.

Actually the only people I could see actually working would be Charisma, she has the right look and great body, she could fit in Or Alan Tudyk, he is funny.

But I think it would be allot better if he just went for this without getting friends from before in, it comes across as cheesey, like he's trying to make his friends famous when they don't have the acting chops to back it up.
Dusku would be an example of that (she got better in Sollhouse but no where near good enough)

the worst thing that happened to Dollhouse? Yeah. I think so. She is hot eye candy and good support and can ride a mean mechanical a la The New Guy but not a lead. 'Cept for like the Wrong Turn b-rated movies.

Yes, but wasn't it rather the opposite?
That Dusku was given a show on Fox and she brought in Whedon to make it.

Anyway, I don't care if he use actors that he worked with before. It's all about if they are suitable for the part or not.
Can't imagine that he would do bad casting just because of friendship, nor do I think that the producers will allow him...

If this is successful, Joss' clout in Hollywood will be pretty huge I would think. Doctor Horrible 2 is a given. Hopefully a new concept for a new cable show or two, or three, if that's the way he wants to go.

Wonder if he would do multiple Avengers films or maybe spin off a character for a solo film. We could finally get a good female superhero movie.
 
Marvel characters make me go... meh.
Don't know why. Just not my cuppa.

I've seen the Marvel movies and almost all have been miss.
Best one I saw was The Punisher, with Thomas Jane and John Travolta.

The Wonder Woman animated feature last year was better than most of the Marvel movies.
And it had Nathan Fillion voicing Steve Trevor which was kinda nice.

Luck to Joss, but generally... meh.

Well, now that we know who’s directing The Avengers (Joss Whedon, for those who have been living in a cave since yesterday), expect news to start moving along.

Several months ago, Zak Penn was charged with writing the script for The Avengers. We still don’t know what the gist of that story will be, other than it will involve Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D. bringing together the newfound superheroes who have been developing in a series of movies from Marvel Entertainment — namely, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and possibly The Incredible Hulk. We don’t know much else about it, nor do we know who the big bad will be.

Apparently, Whedon is not only in final negotiations to direct, but also to rewrite Penn’s script. I’m sure some will be up in arms about this, but it’s got great potential. Whedon’s writing has always been strong (if you’re going to bring up Alien Resurrection, remember Whedon’s quote on it: “They did everything wrong that they could possibly do”), both in terms of dialogue and plotting. Most important to fans is likely going to be the fact that he’s got serious experience writing in this specific genre — I’ve raved about The Astonishing X-Men before, and I’ll continue to do so. I’m not expecting this to be The Scooby Gang with costumes — Whedon hopefully knows the genre better than that.

As for the exclusive news, Pajiba is fortunate enough to have a source close to the project who has some interesting info on The First Avenger: Captain America. Apparently Whedon’s role in the Marvel film universe may expand even further, as he’s also likely to be tasked with doing a polish on the Captain America script. At this point, we know the general news about Captain America — Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans) undergoes a secret super soldier experiment during WWII and becomes Captain America. During a battle with The Red Skull (played by Hugo Weaving), he ends up frozen in ice, only to re-emerge during the modern era (where, presumably, he’ll eventually meet up with Tony Stark, Nick Fury, Thor, and the rest of the gang). The nature of Whedon’s script polish (on a screenplay originally written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely) is unknown, but it makes me rest a little easier, since this project has seemed like more of an x-factor than the others.

Sebastian Stan will play his sidekick Bucky Barnes, and just yesterday it was announced that British actress Hayley Atwell (most recently featured as Lucy in “The Prisoner”) will play Peggy Carter, his WWII-era girlfriend who is also a resistance fighter.

So there you have it. Joss Whedon is taking the Marvel universe by storm.

Not DC per se, although in my view it is better -- or certain parts of it anyway.
I like others as well.
My DC is certainly centered on Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Gotham City Sirens, Power Girl and Supergirl (I'm sensing a theme here).

But also the pulp stuff emerging from Dynamite and DC (Green Hornet [both series], First Wave gun-toting serials style Batman who plugs his villains with lead and the ever campy/whimsical The Spirit from Eisner [sadly on hiatus for the near future].
Also Red Sonja (along with Conan, Solomon Kane and Kull from DH) and those nifty Grimm Fairy Tales/Wonderland/Neverland (all with the cheesecake covers) from Zenescope, Army of Darkness (how can you not groove on Ash?) and zombies, zombies, zombies as my main fare of choice.

There are stragglers as well; Dynamite's Lone Ranger, Jungle Girl was some fun reading, Buck Rogers and even the short lived Flash Gordon from Ardden along with Boom's Cthulhu titles and Zombie Tales. Even DC's revival of the War that Time Forgot (very Burroughs-like) and Top Cow's Madame Mirage are more entertaining than Marvel comics.

This short list alone might explain why Marvel just doesn't grab my interest. Superheroes are in the mix, but most assuredly not prominant.

But yeah, people like different things for different reasons.
 
Huh. So you like a lot of pulp stuff and horror. Yeah. I don't even read a lot of comics to be honest.

More a fan of particular writers and artists than titles per se. Brian K. Vaughan, Ed Brubaker somewhat. And anything Darwyn Cooke does, written or drawn. I liked his stint on The Spirit, but I haven't even read Eisner's stuff.

Marvel's all about Joe Quesada and Bendis and whatever they decide they want for the time being. But I'm liking Jeff Parker and his Agents of Atlas stuff...it's on the periphery of that Marvel universe.
