Joss' TV show: S.H.I.E.L.D.

It's obvious that big name actors like Sam Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr, etc. won't be regulars in the show. They might do a couple cameos or small roles as a favor to Joss. More than likely this show will focus on characters we didn't see in the movies working for SHIELD

I think it would be really cool if Cobie Smulders was the lead in this show, she would get a bigger role than in The Avengers, allow her character to become more fleshed out and then return in Avengers 2. I know she's on HIMYM but this opportunity is really big, and her contract expires after this season so she would be really smart to help start this new TV show (assuming it doesn't get cancelled like all of Joss Whedon shows lol)

Something just occurred to me. Stan Lee has always managed to make a brief appearance in each Marvel movie, in the tradition of Hitchcock. I wonder if he plans on showing up in every episode of the series, assuming that it gets picked up. If he does that, he might just as well become an established member of the cast.

Or maybe he's just gonna be some random guy with a cowboy hat on the sidewalk 😀
But that's actually a pretty cool idea. But I doubt that Stan Lee would do something like that. I guess he's always pretty busy with the movies and everything. Starring in a TV show is a really time-consuming job.

There are plenty of other characters that available in the Marvel stable. Sarah could play the Invisible Girl, on loan from the Fantastic Four, Eliza the Scarlet Witch, and Summer could be Red Sonja (wrong time line, I know, but there should be some way to explain her presence, and Summer in that chain mail bikini would be an asset to any show)
Summer is not nearly, um, endowed enough to be Red Sonja. 😉

I'd say since it's set in the marvel movie verse we won't see any established characters, or any big characters that could be in upcoming movies, I'd assume we'd see a field team of shield agents all new, who mention Fury from time to time to tie it in, possibly a cameo from maria hill, since I'd say Cobie Smulders could be easier to get (although getting CBS to let her appear on abc could be an issue)
Alright, a couple of people have mentioned Cobie Smulders/Maria Hill, and I hope to God that she can't do it, because she's not a favorite of mine and I have zero interest in the character.

That being said, I am so freaking excited about this. The movie really impressed me & I have confidence that Joss (& Jed, & Maurissa) will do a good job with this. If Agent Coulson is in it, I'll be over the moon!!

It's interesting, a couple of years ago some superhero-type shows started & bombed, like The Cape, and No Ordinary Family. But with the success of SyFy's Alphas, and the announcement of both S.H.I.E.L.D. and Arrow (based on DC Comic's Green Arrow), I think we see that turn around.

Well, then, we can swap Eliza and Summer around. (Don't say that she doesn't fit the bill until after you've seen "The Alphabet Killer.")

I really hope not, his cameos were cool at first but now I think they just do a diserverce to the project, they do nothing but pull you out of the story to remind you it's a film, there never subtle and stick out far to much, they always dislodge the story for me.

I liked his cameo in Amazing Spider-Man, but a lot of them are kinda annoying.

I can't remember his one in Spider-Man, but the ones I've liked we're like X-Men (3 i think) where he's basically just an extra, I think that's cool, but no speaking parts.

I cant' remember him in Rami's three, but in the newest one it's kind of a funny appearance.

I totally trust that Joss will do great things with this show, and I'm glad that we shouldn't have to worry about it getting canceled too soon since the company has much more faith in Joss after The Avengers and seeing the mistake Fox made with Firefly.

I can't wait to tune in every week to watch a new Joss Whedon show, and a superhero show at that! 😀

If only I knew more about Marvel and S.H.I.E.L.D. Maybe I should look more into it. I haven't seen The Avengers yet but I will once it's finally out on DVD. 🙂

You definitely should... marvel meets tv show meets joss can only be amazing... I hope at least, although an educated guess leaves me with few doubts

I'm real excited for a Marvel live-action show. I wonder if Joss is going to spice up his formula for his latest tv project. I know many found Dollhouse predictable because they were already so familiar with Joss's writing from Buffy/Angel/Firefly.

I'm confident I will enjoy it either way, but I am interested in seeing how the show is written.

Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson) is interested!

I just read the Clark Gregg said he'd be interested in being part of the series!
The Avengers star Clark Gregg has admitted that he would be interested in the forthcoming TV spinoff. [...]"I don't know if we'll see Agent Coulson again, but I certainly do his voice in their animated series, The Ultimate Spider-Man, and you never know, there may be a flashback or something sometime."

VisionGirl, you said you'd be 'over the moon' 😉

I'm not a huge fan of Marvel and The Avengers, but I'll be sure to tune in since Joss will be at the helm. 🙂 I'm just hoping that the show will be *Whedonesque* and that it won't be cancelled as fast as Dollhouse and Firefly were.

I think that him signing with Marvel for this will garantee us at least a few full seasons. It would make Marvel (and ABC) would look really bad if they cancelled yet another of his shows, especially since they requested it.

And I'm pretty sure if they cancel another Joss show, we're going to have a riot (I will, anyways)

Hey, people! Here's some news on SHIELD.
That's what Joss had to say about the new project:
It's new characters. It needs to be its own thing. It needs to be adjacent [to the MCU] but you don't want to do a show where you're constantly going, "˜Iron Man just left, but he was totally here a minute ago.' You want them to do their own thing. Well, what does S.H.I.E.L.D. have that the other superheroes don't? And that, to me, is that they're not superheroes. But they live in that universe. Even though they're a big organization, that [lack of powers] makes them underdogs, and that's interesting to me.

Four Main Characters from S.H.I.E.L.D. Revealed

Hey, guys! Here's some news on the SHIELD TV series:

The upcoming show will focus on the organization previously featured in all six of Marvel Studios film and heavily spotlit in The Avengers and is said to be autonomous to the film's storylines while remaining within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Four characters revealed:
Agent Grant Ward is deadly, precise and cool under fire. He's just doesn't play well with others due to his not-so-great people skills. He's volatile, but a decent guy with morals whose charm will eventually come through.

Soulful and quiet, Agent Althea Rice (a.k.a. "The Cavalry") is an ace pilot, weapons expert and soldier who is a bit damaged from her combat experience and has gone beyond the call of duty.

Finally, there's Agent Leo Fitz and Agent Jemma Simmons, also known as "Fitz-Simmons" as the two spend all their time together. Think more along the lines of a brother and sister who always bicker and annoy one another. They came up together and are masters in their fields: Fitz is good with weapons and gadgets while Simmons is into science. Yes, they are huge nerds (and also attractive).

Agent Coulson will be in the pilot or shield!

Saw it all over twitter, haven't read much of it yet myself but from their offical twitter http://t.co/jG3ruFnW

So since the TV series is part of Marvel's cinematic universe, I guess that means that the pilot episode takes place before the events of The Avengers, right?
Or maybe they're really coming up with an excuse to bring Coulson back from the dead... :idunno:

What I say will happen is the team coming together, brought together by Coulson, then the team will get the news of Coulsons death and work together(pretty much the same as the movie) and set up the series in a post avengers verse which leaves them open to more stuff.

But that's just my speculation, there's no real information yet.
