A friend told me she read an article somewhere in which Joss commented on how he wanted Angel to mention to Buffy his romance with Cordelia, but that it didn't end up making the cut.. anyone else heard anything on this or, better yet, where to find this article? Thanks!

I've never heard this, but, if it is true, I can see how it "didn't make the cut." It would have been just a little bit strange if Angel had shown up and said something like, "Just so you know, Buffy, I think that I might very well have been in love with Cordy, but she was possessed by an evil demon, and now she's dead. Now, let's kiss and talk about cookie dough, cookies, and Spike having a brand new soul."
But seriously, I doubt that anything like that would have fit in with the Buffy/Angel mini-reunion as it was portrayed in "Chosen."

I think it could have been worked in, but in a awkward way, without him meaning to say it. But that might have seemed crammed in and out of place.

While I adore Cordy, I'm glad Angel didn't mention her in Chosen. If she had been mentioned and acknowledged previously it would have been one thing, but to being her up when it hasn't been done before would have been out of place. Plus, like Ms.Trick said, it would have seemed a bit petty and tit for tat as Buffy acknowledges Spikes presence in her life during their talk.
Also, I think they would have showed much more dialogue between Buffy and Angel I they were going to do that. Buffy and Cordy weren't exactly buddy buddy so it would have been odd to see Angel mention her right off the bat.

They didn't have to mention Cordy or the events in LA, but they could have at least had the decency to not have Angel be so damn cheerful when his life is at its lowest point practically ever.

Yes this, exactly! Maybe they should have mentioned Cordy in order to accomplish that...it would have given Buffy a chance to be there for him and illustrate how they could be great friends no matter where they last left off. I think it was a missed opportunity, as well as downright bizarre to pretend that everything was ok in Angel's world.

Buffy might not have been as close to Cordy as she was to Willow or Xander, but they were definitely friends, and I would think that Buffy would have wanted to know what had happened to her. Then again, for that very reason, she might already have known about it. I don't see it as out of character for Wes to have called with the news soon after it actually happened.

I wouldn't be surprised if Buffy was aware of what had happened. My only point is that after Cordy left, other than Willow's phone conversations with Cordy, the Scoobies seem to have forgotten all about her. We never saw or heard them talk about her working alongside Angle, never mentioned her becoming a higher being, she wasn't mentioned after Buffy's death and from what we saw they never acknowledged her missing or being in a coma. I think it would be odd if they all of a sudden acknowledged her existence; IMO it would have been nice if they would have mentioned her a couple times post grad.

Well, according to the comics (S8 'After these messages' issue), Buffy is aware that Cordelia is dead , and is not feeling particularly upset about it. Rather, she sounded gleefully vindictive at the time. However one might feel about it, that was a secondary indication of Buffy being aware of the part of the story with Cordelia and not being happy with it.
IMHO, the whole idea of mentioning comatose post-Apocalypses-nowish Cordelia in Chosen would have been in bad taste, especially after that 3 minutes long kiss on the mouth. And I seriously doubt Joss ever planned it. Why would he go with the whole 'Buffy and Angel transcend everything' line then?
Personally, I am quite happy with the way Chosen ended up written and shot. The kiss could have been a bit longer though. 😉

Ahh, I forgot that Buffy did mention it in s8. I do completely agree that Angel mentioning her to Buffy in Chosen would have been in bad taste.

I think Angel didn't have to mention Cordy and him being in love for a bit because it's clearly obvious Buffy is the only girl Angel will ever be in total love with but it did annoy me that Buffy came to L.A and mention she had Riley in his face and then in "Chosen" say she has feelings for Spike and Angel, but I do think he should of mention Cordy's death as Xander did love Cordy and Willow and Buffy did have their good moments with Cordy but I think Angel didn't want to bring the scooby gang down cause they all had to be strong for their final fight, however I wished Angel was in the whole episode of Chosen and Bangel could be together 🙂

I heard about that. Apparently, Joss wanted Angel to explain to Buffy that he had a son and was in love with Cordelia, but he finally didn't put it in the episode because he was afraid of perturbing the fans who weren't following Angel the series.
The reference to Cordelia in season 8 by Buffy is one of the things I disliked the most, because I thought that her reaction in order to reassure Willow was really of bad taste.

I get there being no mention of Cordy, especially when Angel first shows up (um fight scene), and I don't even feel like it needed to brought up like most comments on here.
What I do think was in "˜bad taste' was the B/A kiss! Its just a personal opinion/preference, but I feel like it was a little disrespectful but mostly dismissive of the A/C story arc and the B/S story arc (considering the conversation between B/S moments earlier). I think "˜a moment' could have been shared without it.
That being said, I do appreciate that it did open up The First being able to mess with S again.

I personally think that being dismissive of all other romances was kind of the point of the whole scene; and yes, I understand why many (who do not appreciate Angel together with Buffy) dislike it. But the kiss made me crazy happy as Bangel-shipper, and I think the two of them deserved that kiss, and the basking, and the 'sometimes I do look that far ahead' aka the cookie dough speech in the end. A little light or even hint at thereof - at the end of the tunnel is always appreciated. And yes, I certainly can see why it irked all other shippers. Sorry, cannot share that feeling.

Not necessarily dismissive as much as a reminder that there is still a guy named Angel who Buffy still has very strong feelings for. If Season 7 had ended without that scene, we would have been left with the image of Buffy openly sleeping with Spike at least 3 nights, plus declaring her love for him in their last moments together, then having the last word of dialog for the entire series being Buffy saying "Spike." Just about as strong a pro-Spuffy ending as could be imagined. Bangels throughout the world would have been screaming in rage and organizing lynching parties with Joss as the guest of honor.
Having Angel show up at the end was a pure act of self preservation on Joss' part.

I didn't watch Buffy/Angel until a few years ago; were there really that many still Bangels around at that point? Buffy and Angel didn't really have any significant interaction interaction in years. Would many have been so upset that the writers felt the need to shoe-horn the Bangel romance into the finale?
I also Angel's sudden obsession with Buffy in AtS season 5 forced and out of place. Especially considering the Cordy situation.

Not sure about the 'historical' % of Bangels left after watching the entire show. I guess many stopped watching the show after BtVS S3 and never came back - S6 was the biggest drop down in ## of viewers. I watched the show on DVD in one year long run, and never stopped being Bangel. Always felt that entire C/A was forced and out of place, but that's probably because when the show is condensed in 1 year that's how it feels.
As such Chosen felt like completely appropriate and desired ending to me. I was really sorry about Cordelia, but after Apocalypses Nowish it really felt like C/A was dead and buried before it ever get physical. Same feeling about B/S - it was abomination in S6, and in S7 it was terminated before ever getting anywhere.
So, no, I never felt angst-y at Joss. He cleaned up all the none-essential relationships just at the right moment. Maybe a bit too abruptly, but it felt like it was supposed to happen in the end of the series anyhow.

In my opinion there are so many ways that the reunion with the two of them in Chosen could have been better. Angel telling Buffy about Cordy is one way it would have been one of those ways.
