Joss Whedon action figure to accompany Comic-Con documentary DVD —*EXCLUSIVE

The man who brought The Avengers to the big screen, created Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and resurrected Firefly from the dead as Serenity has finally gotten what he deserves.
An action figure.
Toy versions of Joss Whedon will be packaged along with collector’s DVDs of Morgan Spurlock’s geek-culture documentary Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope, and Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive first look.
Whedon will be one of four collectible figurines (perhaps “action figure” is too strong a word, since the joints don’t seem to move), joining Spurlock, comic book icon Stan Lee, and Internet fanboy extraordinaire Harry Knowles.
Whedon and Spurlock editions will be sold with the DVD at Toys ‘R’ Us stores exclusively when the movie makes its home-video debut on July 10. Another package with all four figures will be put on sale at game stores.
As you can see from the enlarged image here, Whedon is doing that filmmaker thing where you make your thumbs and index fingers into a movie frame, which Whedon totally does in real life. (Either that, or the toy is being mugged.)
The sculptor and painter definitely got his hair and beard right, and the real Whedon als0 has seemingly greenish eyes — though they’re perhaps less demonic than these radioactive emeralds. Is he about to Hulk out or something?

Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope — or, C-CE4AFH for short — is the latest film from Super Size Me filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, exploring the weird, wild world of San Diego’s annual sci-fi and comics convention, the mecca of modern mythology.
Whedon, who recently produced and co-wrote the geek-horror lovefest The Cabin in the Woods, is just one of the subjects interviewed for the project, which was released theatrically and on VOD in April, with Frank Miller, Kevin Smith, Matt Groening, Seth Rogen, Eli Roth and others sharing their thoughts on the passionate fandom that sometimes loves, and sometimes loathes, their work.
This year’s Comic-Con takes place July 12-15. If Whedon attends again, fans will be able to enjoy him in both life-sized and fun-sized versions.

Well, I wouldn't use it as a voodoo doll. I'd probably put it on an altar and worship it 😀

Anyway, definitely looks cool! Well, cheap, but it's Joss 😉

second thought after seeing the post above: hmm... perhaps I should buy this doll 😉
 
I'm so bothered by article to claim to have the "exclusive first look" when it's not. It's been up on the heroclix site for a while now.

Not sure what criteria you're using, but I very much disagree. Joss is famous and well liked and a extraordinary TV writer, and him being released as a toy with the DVD that features him makes perfect sense to me. Specially considering he's popular with the geek crowd that is likely to want to watch the DVD and buy action figures in general.

Not saying everyone will want to buy it, but I don't get the WTF. It's new and different, therefor maybe a bit odd, I can see that. But it's more of a fun odd thing to me, which more than warrants it's existence.

Just because someone is famous and well-liked and an extraordinary writer does not mean they are worthy of getting their own doll. Joss Whedon is not God, or some superhero; he's just a man who works for a living, just like all the other people in Hollywood. You don't see anyone creating a J.J. Abrams action figure, or a Steven Spielberg toy. I say WTF because it's silly to me, and that's my opinion. I'm allowed to feel that way if I want. Of course I understand that Joss has a following, and people out there will go buy this thing. I just don't understand why.

If I seemed disrespectful of your opinion, that was unintentional. I'm still not sure how I was impolite. But I haven't been in many forumdiscussions lately and could have forgotten my manners.

I just wanted to express a different perspective, one where it makes sense that they made a Joss Whedon figure, for several reasons.

When releasing a DVD about comic con, it would be a good promotion idea to release a figure that's popular to comic con people(who is actually in the DVD itself), specially that year. Which Joss is. I think they're also releasing Stan Lee, a good choice. Not sure if J.J. Abrams or Steven Spielberg have something going on this year or appears in the DVD, or if they have figures made already.

Besides, I, personally, don't really think people need to think "Wait, we can't release a xx figure, there are other people who deserves it more." It would be hard, since there's lots of well deserving people out there, in and out of Hollywood.

Also, I feel that while superheroes or God can be very inspirational, non-fictional people accomplishing real life stuff are simply better than fictional characters. So if we talk about a writer deserving to be a action figure or not, it really depends on how you see it.

But when it comes down to it, it's not about who deserves it, it's about which figure would sell/be popular). What the buyer's wants. Usually that is actually superheroes.

I won't actually buy this, because while it's thanks to Joss I get to admire characters, I won't make room on my shelf for him. I'll just keep action figs of his characters there, because I prefer to have fictional characters on my shelves. It's simply cooler.

Well, let's just say that a certain friend of mine in a state of joyful inebriation would fire up the game, choose Mr Whedon, put away the gamepad and watch him being pummeled to death by a horde of zombies and vampires.

Repeatedly.

Beats voodoo dolls I say.
