Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard - Horror Movie!!!

Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard are working on a new horror movie "cabin in the woods" it's currently in pre production, being written By Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard and being Directed by Drew Goddard. Due to be released in the USA late 2010 (a long time to wait, I know)

You know, Joss Whedon doing a horror movie is something I could get behind. One of those classic ’80s style slasher flicks, but instead of dumb high school or college kids, we’re looking at college kids who like to indulge in snappy pop culture patter, and are smarter than your average bear. But, at the end of the day, they still get chopped to pieces by an equally snappy one-liner tossing killer. Or maybe not on the one-liner tossing part. The only thing worst than a boring killer is one who talks too much, which invariably ends up being boring. But is Whedon’s “Cabin in the Woods”, a movie he’s currently writing the script for with “Cloverfield” dude Drew Goddard, the horror movie we’ve all been waiting for him to do? Maybe, maybe not. He ain’t tellin’.

Chris Hemsworth ("Star Trek," "Home and Away"), Kristen Connolly ("Revolutionary Road"), Anna Hutchison ("Underbelly"), Fran Kranz ("The Village") and Jesse Williams ("The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2") are set to join the horror film "The Cabin in the Woods!"

I just hope that this one doesn't wind up being another "bunch of dumb horny kids get picked off one by one by the nearly superhuman slasher" things. Just once, I would love to shave seen Jason or Michael or Freddie screw up and go after a group that turns out to be the former members of Seal Team 6 having their yearly combat skills competition. Now THAT would be something worth watching.

I think this could be good. Joss tends to like to make a bit of fun of typical genre stuff, so you can expect something more than horny teenagers and a guy with a chainsaw. Or maybe you can, but in a funny way. Maybe the killer will be a horny teenager and the victims will have chainsaws. Or am I just being too hopeful?
Either way, I would consider watching this when it coems out. It's been ages since I watched a decent slasher.

And yay for Fran Kranz. He's Topher. I like him 🙂
