JOSS WHEDON and THE BUFFY-VERSE FEMALES

is it me or does joss tend to kill off alot of his female characters. i mean i know that sometimes thier are important reasons surrounding their deaths. and yes i know that his male character do die off too i mean there's doyle, wesley and technically angel and spike seeing as they are vampires. but still i mean okay we have buffy who died twice once by the master and then by some-kind of hell energy. tara gets shot by warren, joyce by a brain aneurysm, anya being slashed by a bringer, and kendra's throat slit by drusilla. and on angel cordelia upon arriving on the higher planes body was violated and tooken control of by a renegade higher power then when it was finish with her it exhaust her life-force and left her in a coma. though she did come back it was only an astroprojection and she then died soon after. we then have fred who contracted a parastic virus of illyria an old one that hollowed her out then took control over her form as a shell. i get that it makes for a great story but most of the characters i mentioned where key members of their gangs and now they are gone.

I think the higher ratio of females-to-males makes this a hard one to call. Most of the characters are female, so of course more females will die than males.

don't forget Harmony, who's technically died as well, and of course Jenny Calender. Oh, and worst, Lilah and Darla.

I've noticed it as well. Not on Buffy, but on late Angel. Starting with Darla, I really asked myself if Joss tried to kill off all interesting females to make the show lamer on purpose.
To be fair we have to admit that, at least on Buffy, there were a lot more female characters than male ones, just look at the Scoobies and then, later on, all the potential slayers.
And there were probably a lot more female characters more or less 'useless', ergo, easier to kill off.

And another thing, Angel was killed off once as well, in season2 when buffy stabbed him

to be fair you guys are right about the thing buffy thing seeing as there are more females than men but on angel many female characters have been offed. i mean i like illyria but i love my fred.

I think we're all clear on 2 of her deaths, when she drowned and when she jumped into this energy-thingy, but when was the 3rd time? Do you maybe mean in Nightmares when she got vamped? Otherwise I have no idea

If you wanted to get REALLY technical, you could count her death in "The Wish" as well.

I would have thought it actually made a bigger impact on Angel having the female characters die. Yes, in comparison to Buffy, the female ratio is smaller, but so is the cast in general. Say Fred's death had much more of an impact than what maybe Lorne's would have....not that it wouldn't be devasting if Lorne died.

Same with Cordy's. Even with Darla's. To me, I guess maybe it was a symbolism of how women are powerful but in a completely different way that how that power is portrayed on Buffy.

What I see when it comes to Joss and his female characters is that they are all strong in some way. It's very empowering. 🙂

just cause you flat line, it doesnt mean you are dead. doctors say that there are 2 types of death in the medical field: "heart death" and "brain death." they say you are not considered legally dead until you are braindead..........we were not told whether buffy was braindead or not.
