Joss Whedon asks fans to 'wish me luck' with The Avengers

The Avengers finally started filming today, but before Joss Whedon stepped behind the camera, there's one thing he wanted you to know"”he could use some luck to pull off the monstrous task of mashing together so many Marvel superheroes.

Here's some of what the director had to say yesterday over at whedonesque:

Tomorrow we start shooting (I THINK I'm legally permitted to say that). Day one. That's right. We'll be shooting the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene, at the following address:
[Marvel Lawyers rush in, take Joss's keyboard, blowtorch a picture of his family like in "Stormy Monday", drink his milkshake, leave the seat up, fluff his pillows, violently unfluff his pillows, leave]

Went too far. My bad. Anyhoo, it should be a fun day, followed by the eighty thousand other fun days it will take to finish this. I'll be checking in from time to time, if there's news or I crave attention (i.e. am awake) . None of it will be Avengers news -- I have some very denty pillows to remind of that -- but I may have tidbits. (They're not about Firefly. I should say that up front, if only to protect Sis Mo from the HATORZ.)

So wish me luck. DO IT! LUCK! NOW! I'm off to finish some Buffy pages, and then figure out what the movie is about already. I'm pretty sure it's about the Justice League [Marvel Lawyers re-enter, unspeakability occurs] or possibly something else. I'll get it. I've been looking forward to this. For about 46 years.


We're not so sure it's luck that Whedon needs, but"”good luck!

To hell with luck. I wish him talent, skill, determination, patience, judgment, agreeable weather, good, professional relationships with the actors, crew, and producers, and even excellent food from the caterers if it helps. Luck don't get the baby fed.

And if he runs short of Avengers ...well...I work cheap.

(And, Joss, there's $10 cold hard cash in it for you if you manage to slip a little Spuffy into Season 9. I think that I could go as high as $50 for a white picket fence, children, and a dog to chase away mail men and broody vampires. Just between me and you, pal. Nobody else has to know.)

Did you get a reciept? I did, AND the assurance that if the Incredible Hulk can't make it, he can use a White Avenger just as easily as a green one. I'm Hollywood bound!!!
'Avengers' starts filming today; Joss Whedon writes a letter to his fans

The Avengers officially begins filming today, according to a letter posted yesterday by writer-director Joss Whedon at Whedonesque. "Tomorrow we start shooting," writes the geek auteur, before adding, "I THINK I'm legally permitted to say that." Whedon doesn't offer any hints about the plot of the movie, although he does say that they'll be shooting "the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene," which is probably a joke, but a boy can dream, can't he? (Elsewhere in the letter, Whedon says that he's pretty sure the movie is about the Justice League.) The Avengers, currently slated for a May 4 release next year, will unite the lead characters from Marvel's Iron Man, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor into one mega-adventure. (And remember: If everything goes according to plan, The Avengers will also inspire a few franchises of its own.)
 
Looking forward to this film aloooooot even though it's only just started production haha! It's probably from seeing Thor yesterday that did it. Can't wait to see some on set photos once all the cast is together. I'm sure Joss is going to rock making this film and bringing some characters the life and screen time they deserve. 😀
