Re-Watched Avengers by Joss Whedon and my God is very meh with lots of filler. Some of the dialogue (for a guy known for snappy dialogue) is paint by numbers and the last 30 mins is just a CGI fest.
Also the Hulk is an out of control monster except when he isn't for well reasons !
Also I do laugh that they get upset over Agent Coulson dying even though dozens perhaps hundreds of men and women have been killed including many by Hawkeye but sod it they don't count 😄

I love the Avengers film, I think it still holds up. Pity about Age of Ultron followup though.

Thor: You have no idea what you're dealing with
Tony: Uh, Shakespeare in the park? 'Doth mother know you weareth her drapes?'

I love Robert Downey Jr. 😂

Robert Downey Jr. would apparently adlib lines that were left in.
@NotASlayer - I didn't know this!
I love the long-standing joke that Tony Stark (or is that Tony Stank? 😉) and RDJ are the same person.

I came across... somewhere... that Tony's Galaga comment was an adlib where after it they altered the film to have the guy actually playing Galaga.

I disagree. 1 minute Hulk is this out of control monster. A danger to everyone. The next Banner can control him apparently. Why because the plot needs him too

We'll agree to disagree. 🙂

There's been discussion about this over the years, like when he willingly turns into him, he's got a grasp on Hulk ("That's my secret, I'm always angry"). Whereas when manipulated, there's a loss of control and he's seeing red.

Hulk not being written consistently is entirely in line with the comics. The original version was Banner suffering from radiation based brain damage while transformed.

I loved it first time I saw it, last time I watched it maybe not quite as much. I think maybe my tastes have changed though, a lot of these big team up superhero movies don't do as much for me these days.

Thats how I felt. Theres a lot of filler thats very noticeable.
Plus given Hawkeye killed a bunch of people under Loki you think he'd feel bad or that Shield might be wary of him. I guess not. Damn if only they'd collected Captain America cards 🥺

On the flip side the Kenneth Branagh Thor film does hold up because he goes heavy into Norse lore

Thor was written by J. Michael Straczynski, of Babylon 5 fame, so its not surprising its well written.

I dont think Avengers sucks, but, I dont think it is particularly good.

It is mindless enjoyable fun except during the parts where it really isn't. I remember being unpleasantly surprised by how just flat out boring a bunch of the dialogue was. Especially coming from the Master of Fun Dialogue himself.

All in all, an extremely inconsistent film that runs the gammut from really good to really bad. I could cut out about 45 minutes of @Btvs fan's filler and not lose anything from the story.

You've expressed how I feel about the film, especially after the rewatch. Its not bad per say (certainly not Thor Dark World or Age of Ultron bad) but its not great either, like you say cut some mins from it and you wouldn't lose anything.

Another unforseen problem is that Captain America Winter Soldier came after this and of all the Marvel comic McDonald's Movies, its still the best, its crisp sharp action thriller that holds up that doesn't have filler. In fact I wonder why Joss went with a Hulk/Black Widow relationship in Ultron when she and Cap clearly had the better chemistry in this.

@hoponlilmama Hulks sudden change with nothing in between has always been a big Joss writing flaw across the board. Why does something happen, well because he needs it to. Its why Xander summoned Sweet or Dawn was apparently made out of Buffy because it needs to happen set up be dammed.

Yeah the writing was excellent and very noticeable in comparison to Thor Dark World (which I rewatched) in which the writing was/is terrible.

Anyway on the rewatch I watched Iron Man 3 which is underrated imo. Don't get me wrong its not perfect but Tony dealing with his trauma over what happened and more smaller story of him trying to find a terrorist really works.

What didn't work was the villain. Apparently the original villain was his ex but Marvel and Disney changed it. That was a shame as that would've worked.
I did like the idea of Ben Kingsley being a front but then they just went overboard with the humour (US views of English actors is noticeable) and felt like hearts get Ben Kingsley in it.

Overall enjoyable and I like the general ideas but not perfect
