Joss Whedon: Hollywood's Golden Boy

I stumbled upon this article about Joss on the Guardian's website just now, talks about his rise to success (including Buffy, Firefly, Alien, etc) and all of his film work. Hope this is the right section to put this, just thought people might be interested.

A bit? If even fans like me are tired of the constant "the networks didn't appreciate Joss's genius" complaining then it has no place in any article that wishes to be taken even remotely seriously. And even less in one that at the same time praises Joss for finally having projects that are successful at the box office. If money and popularity are the ultimate benchmark then all of Joss's previosu projects are nothing special because none of them comes even close to the most successful TV shows. If not praising Whedon for his "golden touch" is more than a little odd.

It can be downright embarrassing to be a fan when so many fans insist that nothing is ever Joss's fault. And BTVS attracted "attracted a fanbase to rival Star Trek's Trekkies"? I really don't think so.

The only thing I can say in defence of the journalist is that the website for the Guardian is much more into editorialising than staright-up, old-fashioned news reporting and to get published on there, you probably have to write this kind of grovelling drivel. That being said, if I was writing a piece on Joss it would probably only be marginally toned down from this. 🙂

The Guardian guy probably got to the same screening of Avengers Assemble (UK Title) that I went to and if he left on the high I did... then you'll understand why it's fanboyesque
