Article Joss Whedon to write and direct The Avengers 2!!

So wonderful, but I'm more excited by the thought of him possible writing and directing a superhero show. I'm getting more and more into Marvel, and miss him doing tv shows, so this could be great. There can only be so much character development in a movie, and they take so long to make.

Yes, the thing about the show is also awesome! I hope he casts some Whedonverse actors! 🙂

But I'm really excited about the movie, because when I heard that he was gonna direct the first one, I had really high expectations and they were actually fulfilled. And now I'm pretty sure that he won't disappoint me with the second one. I was afraid that they would hire someone else for the job and that that someone would screw up the movie. But now I'm confident that the second movie won't be a let-down.

So so so happy!!! I already had a doubt they would agree to have Joss work on this one too, seeing how much of a success Avengers was, but it's nice to see it's official.

😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

I'm sure that the news about Joss and "Avengers 2" isn't any real surprise to anyone here, but the TV series has piqued my curiosity.

I agree with everybody about both the movie AND the possible TV show. 😀

Oh, and we NEED a Black Widow movie!

Gasp!- imagine what he could do with a X-men show?! *dies*

I think I am way more excited for the new TV show. I've never gotten the chance to follow a Joss Whedon show on TV since I was a kid when I saw a few new Buffy eps (which I think was only twice, The Gift, and Doublemeat Palace).

To be honest, I haven't seen The Avengers yet. 🙁 But I'm pretty pumped Joss is going to do a sequel irregardless.

He'd have been an idiot to not take Avengers 2, but the TV show is interesting.

In general I like the idea of a new Joss TV show, but I'm not sure about a Marvel one tied to the Movie universe, I'd love it if they can keep their universe continuity in check but it will kinda suck that they can't tie in the big characters (most likely) Although it could be a cool way of bringing in smaller characters and them cameoing in the movie, since the whole movie characters cameoing in each others movies could be less cool since Avengers.

I'm more concerned with the fact that it's ABC. After doing the Dollhouse rewatch I'm convinced that Joss' shows would have done better on either a premium station (HBO, Starz etc) or another cable channel (FX, SyFy etc).

I figured he would be offered Avengers 2. Good for him!

I'm really interested in the possibility of him doing a superhero show; that sounds like it could have lots of potential.

I'm totally on board with this. One hundred percent.

You know, I was thinking today that DC (through Warner Bros) might begin producing a Batman live-action T.V. show now that the movie franchise has (seemingly) wrapped up. When you think about how incredibly successful super hero movies have been since the craze began, with literally only a few duds, it's kind of amazing that the only series we've seen on the small screen has been Smallville (although there's a new Green Arrow series coming out this fall. Um...yay?). I think it's awesome that Marvel is going to kick start that, and with Joss on board? Fantastic.

I'm just trying to deduce who the series will focus on. Just creatively, Spiderman is the best option for a T.V. series, but his rights are owned by FOX and I could see a Spidey show being very expensive to produce. It's kind of interesting to think about possible options. I would be pretty surprised if the series focuses on someone already a part of the Avengers though. Maybe a Heroes for Hire series, with Luke Cage and Iron Fist? Or Daredevil?

Was there any doubt? LOL! 😉

Not really, but it was never official. He's also under a lot of pressure now and has to fulfill really high expectations. There are some directors who wouldn't want to do a second one, because they think they couldn't do it as good as before. Thank god, Joss is not one of them 😛

Heros for Hire would be a cool option, hadn't through if that. Although I would have definitely said X-Men would be the easiest to bring to TV, set in a school, mix of children and adult characters, lots of potential.

Although could this be tied to the news last week that Marvel were thinking of doing a cop show based in the Marvel Universe, we could wind up seeing CSI: Marvel or Law and Order: Super Hero's Unit

Oh god please no.
R
Robb Stark
I hadn't thought of that setting for X-Men. That could work.
Thanos as villain in The Avengers 2

They just confirmed that Thanos will be the villain of The Avengers' sequel and Marvel's upcoming movie Guardians of the Galaxy which is going to be directed by James Gunn.
