What does this mean, I wonder...

He seems to be thinking more than just the Spike thing that's being mentioned lately.

Whedon Will Return To Buffyverse

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" creator Joss Whedon will return to the universe he created in a television project in the future, according to SciFi Wire.

"I think it's realistic," Whedon said while promoting his upcoming movie, "Serenity." "I like my chances. But it is absolutely still too amorphous for me to make any kind of announcement about it. I'm out there trying, and there's other people trying, to put it together. But until something falls in place, I really can't say."

Whedon particularly wants to put together a film that focuses on Spike, the vampire played by James Marsters.

"Let's say it's a good jumping off point," Whedon said.

What about remarks from the actor that he's getting too old to play an immortal vampire who never ages? "Well, we're working. We're trying. I know James is in very good shape," Whedon said. "Keep working out, James."

"Serenity," the film based on the cancelled Fox TV show "Firefly," debuts in movie theaters on Friday, September 30.

As much as I like hearing this it also is a bit scary, but I really have no doubt that if Joss actually eventually does something it will be great. And to me it seems like the possibility is getting bigger and bigger, like what Joss says about future BtVS projects sounds more and more serious. And it does sound like the Spike thing would be just the first of many. Could this be a new start for the Buffyverse?

That is cetainly good to here. I hope they get started on it soon and I hope it isn't the last thing Buffyverse they do.

Well DB wants to do a movie movie, and SMG wants to see the script first. Neither has said a plain NO. But I would give them acouple of years before asking them back since they did spend 7/8 years playing the charecters.

I dont really know if a Spike film would do good(what exactly would be the premise of the movie or what would Spike be doing?}

I think Joss should try to do a Fray movie, that would be great and well he is probably still trying to get the animated show off its feet

Hmm. "A good jumping off point". Could that possibly mean not just tele-movies, but a new show?

If so, I'd say yeah, baby! Even if Joss were just a show's conceiver, creator, I'd be interested. Even if it were entirely new characters for the "˜verse, I'd be interested. I'd hope it wouldn't be for cable, FX or the SciFi channel or something...maybe his skepticism and resentment of FOX and the WB is starting to wane?

I'm sure Joss will be a great moviemaker, but some people are just designed to be TV visionaries. Serling, Carter, Abrams...Whedon.

A Fray theatrical film would be awesome, but super expensive to do that futuristic world justice. Unless it were all green screen maybe...

Withe the Success that he WILL get for Serenity and im sure that Wonder Woman will be a big hit, i believe he will be in a Powerful enough place as director/writer to have enough money to make any movie deal worth while.
My biggest concern is the simple fact that he has ALOT on at the moment.....and JM isnt getting any younger to play a character that doesnt age.......
I do want a new Movie/TV show....but at the same time, if JM is unavailable there are many characters in the verse he could use, and if thats not viable i could wait another 4 years for a new Show based in the Buffyverse....

Well it could be Spike or a Giles spin off.
Back in 6th season of Buffy they were talking about a Giles/Watchers spin-off but it never got off the ground. But they still are talking about it.

And James isn't getting any younger he's already (believe it or not) 43. So if they are going to do one for Spike they need to hurry up.

Speaking of the Spike thing Joss is considering, and Fray, here's something from a recent interview with Joss that hope for answers to the questions we always hear, concerning the discrepencies between the end of Chosen and Fray -

Q: This might be more fanwank, but in Fray you have that bit where you touch on what happened to all the magic and demons and that didn’t happen at the end of Buffy, which I sort of expected. Is that the kind of thing we should just forget about?

Whedon: No, that’s actually something I hope to deal with, either in the Spike format or in another series of Fray.

Q: Are there plans for another series?

Whedon: That’s just me talking. But yeah, there’s a discrepancy there that I plan to explain. I have a vision for it.

Personally, I hope he won't adress those discrepancies for a long time... cause they sort of mean that any new incarnations of the verse are impossible. 🙁

Maybe Illyria Too 🙂

I found this at Moviehole.net

Whedon bringing back Illyria?
Posted on Sun, 25-Sep-2005

Here's a little bit of news that's even cooler than the ice on my windscreen yesterday morning.

Former "Angel" star Amy Acker has all but confirmed - to my matie, Kristin, at E Online - that Joss Whedon's looking to bring back "Illyria", in addition to Spike, for a telemovie too. Best news? Sounds like Blondie Bear and Fred 2.0 two will be sharing the screen together.

"He has mentioned it a couple of times," Acker, who joins "Alias" this season, says. "I mean, the last time, I talked to him a couple weeks ago and said that I had heard that Tim Minear was gonna write and direct the Spike movie, the Spike-Illyria movie, so he said that they want to do that still. I think he's just overwhelmed a bit right now with the press for Serenity and everything!"

The "Spike", or "Spike and Illyria" movie, is believed to be the first of a series of new Buffy/Angel telemovies that Joss is keen to do. All, I assume, will air on The Frog

I hope they do this one it woild be so much better then just a spike movie (Not a spike fan) but I loved Illyria. Im keeping my fingers crossed!

This is great news. It seems like we keep hearing things though and nothing happens. I know we gotta be patient but I will wait til it happens to get more excited.

It would be great if they did bring the familiar faces back; Drusilla, Wesley, Fred, Buffy, Xander, Giles, Willow (sans Kennedy)... I mean I miss the gang and Drusilla, and if this movie is centered on Spike, Drusilla have to be in it too. She is a part of the whole Spike legacy so to speak.

More good news (even if the writer can't spell Alyson's name)

Joss Whedon has revealed that he would like Allyson Hannigan to reprise her Buffy role of Willow in the Spike TV movie.

Speaking to tvguide.com he explained: "You know, if I get a chance to use Allyson, I'll use Allyson. That's a given. There's no maybe about that. The maybe is, does she have time?"

He also stated that he has been in touch with Alexis Denisof (Angel's Wesley) over the matter but again nothing material has come of it. Also, he confirmed that Amy Acker (Illyria) is interested in the endeavour.

As for where the the project stands, Whedon explained that it is very much in the planning stage. "We don't have a paradigm set up yet. We don't have anything solid to announce," he explained. "I'm just making sure that the creative people I need are in place before I set up a whole deal and then James Marsters (Spike) goes, "Gosh, you know? That's kind of behind me now."

"Or [if] I don't have a writer I can trust, because I don't have time to do it all myself; I need one of my peeps. And there's no greater peep for something like this than Mr. [Tim] Minear. I'm optimistic that I will actually have something to say in the near future, but at this point it's still me and my buddies going, "Wouldn't it be cool?"

Willow, Illyria and Spike would certainly be interesting. Although I agree, Dru should be in it too. Hey, throw in Harmony and it'd be like Spike and his ladies. Oh and Wes. Spike, his ladies and Wes.

That would be so cool!! I would love it if Willow were in it!! Please let this happen!!!!!!! 🙂
