Joyce and Giles

Would you have liked to see Joyce and Giles become romantically involved beyond "Band Candy"? If so, why? If not, why not?
 
I would have liked it for them but I think for the show it was better not to have happened. the show built up the idea of family being what you make not so traditional. So Giles could be her Dad without being her actual dad. Being her step dad would have changed the dynamic. Ever notice that almost everyone is an only child? And you don't see extended family involved? That's because the scoobies are a family in the untraditional sense. Even the bits of family you hear about are bad i.e.: Tara's dad, oz's cousin made him a werewolf, Xander's parents, Anya's husband/troll. I always thought the message was families suck but it's okay because you can find a new one.

I would have been cool with seeing them become more romantically involved. They seemed like they would fit together pretty well. After Jenny's death it would have been nice to see Giles happy again with someone and it would be interesting to see how their status as a couple would affect the scoobies and the dynamics of the show.
 
I think it'd be hard for someone to be a Watcher and have a family life. The Slayer has to be the centre of a Watchers world, which doesn't leave much time for a spouse. Even if that spouse is the the Slayers mother, I think she'd eventually get fed up of playing second fiddle to her daughter. Giles has only had on/off relationships, which leaves lots of time for Buffy and his Watcher duties, but I think Joyce is more of an 'all or nothing' woman - she did fall for Ted, so I don't think Giles would be her type or give her what she wanted.
 
Pros:
Joyce must know how to get blood out of his clothes after doing Buffy's laundry for all those years
Giles can bring his work home and talk about it without being institutionalized

Cons
Giles if definitely getting dementia in his old age from being knocked out so much
Joyce would be like a policeman's wife, always wondering if he will be killed on the job

feel free to add more pros and cons....
 
I wouldn't, but I can't think of a reason why. But it's not like I'd be upset over it either. My mind is currently toying with the idea of how things would've been different...especially when Dawn arrives. In any case, I'm sure it would add many comic moments to have Joyce attend many Scooby meetings (or even just be around). I bet Joyce would protest how Spike got treated in season 4.
 
It was fun for an episode, but I don't think it would have been good for the show or the characters overall. There would have been way too much drama and conflict of interests if he was with Joyce for anything more than the random hook up.

It would have set up seriously weird dynamics and competition for attention between Joyce and Buffy.
 
I like that it was just Band Candy, a what if we had met when we were younger type of thing. I think that it might have been a little too cliche if they had got together, the single older male and the single older female getting together to give Buffy a family unit.

Despite it would have influenced the evolution of the show . .. and even fun sometimes , I guess it could also bring some good stuff to the Scoobies , I would have loved to see Giles happy with someone .
I think Joyce and Giles would have done good match . .. and even Joyce good got to be more involved into her daughter'si life which would have mean they will both be much closer to each other and get more of a family feeling ... 🙂

Also it would make Joyce's death even more heartrending and all the scoobies would feel the loss to a massive degree rather than just Buffy and Dawn and everybody else is sad but not really affected by it.
 
when i watched the show the very first time, i was actually expecting it to happen. I really thought it would and then when it didnt i found myself quite disappointed lol. idk i guess the thought of buffy having two parents and yay happy families would be nice but maybe it wouldn't have worked with the story.
Also im assuming there may have been some attraction there otherwise band candy wouldnt have worked; but then again maybe it was the candy that forced that attraction?
