Joyce grave scene?

To me, one of the greatest scenes in the series was Willow visiting Tara's grave in 7x04 'Help'. Do you think we should have had something similar seen with Joyce? I think a grave scene in 'Chosen' or even better 'Touched' (after Buffy is kicked out of the house), would have been great. I can only imagine the emotion and how heart-wrenching it'd be to see Buffy visiting her mom's grave. Maybe even saying a few words? I hated that they chose to use her form as The First, and it would have been a great way to send a last nod to an amazing character in the series before it finally went out. Thoughts?

I would not have minded seeing a lot nod in Joyce's direction in that way but I can understand why it wasn't a priority to put into the show. Sad though, would've been nice to see.
 
I think it would have definately fitted in nicely during season 7. It possibly could have been done after Buffy got kicked out of the Summers home, would have been a poignant moment when Buffy was at rock bottom.

I think the point of the second half of Season 7 was Buffy moving on, she was suicidal, & thought of Angel as the only perfect relationship she had or will ever have. while I'm a Bangel shipper, I think after the second half, she accepted that she should let go of the past, while I'm not saying she should let go of her mother, but a particular scene like that would hint that she's still clinging to the past.

Visiting a loved one's grave is NOT clinging to the past. People do it in memory of the person and for comfort. It makes them feel like that person isn't completely gone and that they're still somehow connected to them.

that's why I said she shouldn't forget about her mother, she can go & visit her mother, but in a case like that, its like clinging to the past.

Are you even being serious? I think it was pretty safe to say that Buffy was "over" her mother's death. So, you're saying that even visiting her dead mother's grave is a sign that she is clinging to her past? Sorry, that is just absurd and a touchy subject I don't want to go into.

I dont think it was needed to be honest, everyone knows how much she missed her mum it didnt need to be shown... Maybe a little mention in the last ep would have been nice but not a full scene
 
If wanting to remember someone who have died is clinging to the past I'll be clinging to the past until the day I die. And be very proud of it.


As for the initial question, yes I think it would have been a nice nod but I can't say that I've been missing it while watching the season.

I didn't say she shouldn't visit her mother, what I meant was a scene like that in that stage would mean she hates how her life got...etc, Buffy moving on was a big part of S7, a scene off-screen would be ok, but it would distort the massage being sent in S7 if we see Buffy in such a state again.

How does visiting her mother's grave mean that she hates her life? That doesn't make any sense.
 
Breaking down or being emotionell at her mothers grave and then go back to her life would have been bad in what way? Did someone say she was going to be heartbroken for longer than a scene? I'm confused. As I often am.
 
it would be ok if the scene was early in the season, but later on it would mean she's still weak & whatever she's gone through didn't change her.

Visiting her mothers grave after being kicked out of her own home basically by her sister would not be a sign of weakness..
Going to her mothers grave in season 7 would show how she needed guidance, a pick me up much like Spike gave her in "Touched". In terms of your weakness point, Buffy was weak after being kicked out of her home. She felt like giving up. Going to her mother's grave could have revitalised her and given her the strength to fight again.

At the end of the day Spike's talk did that but visiting her mother could have had a similar effect. Going to visit a deceased loved one doesn't always have to be a sad thing it can raise spirits, give strength.
 
It would have been a nice nod to Joyce, but as Washburne said, it was not something that I felt was missing to begin with.

Season 7 neglected so many main characters to allow room for the potentials already. I would have preferred the 4 minutes of visiting Joyce's grave to be 4 minutes of Giles myself. BUT - my rant about Season 7's treatment of Giles is getting a bit off topic so I will stop myself!
 
IMO I Think It Would Have Been A Great Scene, For Buffy To Visit Joyce's Grave After She Got Kicked Out Of Her House.
 
Well, it could also have been in "Lies My Parents Told Me". In an episode about parents both literal (Spike's mom and Nikki Wood) and figurative (Giles, for Buffy), about how we all carry 'issues' associated with are parents and are freed once we reconcile those 'issues', a bit of recognition might have been nice.

I completely agree that Willow putting the stones on Tara's grave was beautiful. Cordy and Angel watching that video of Doyle was beautiful. We're all made up of the people in our lives who have touched us, alive or dead, and acknowledging that from time to time makes sense.

Personally, I always thought instead of spending the night in an abandoned house after being kicked out in S7, Buffy should have gone to her mom's grave instead.

Can't say that I've thought of it before... but now when you and others mention it I agree that it would've been awesome.
Really wished that they had done that.
