What do you guys think Joyce would have done if she was alive in the gift? I dont what would have happened.... Buffy would proabably send her away then she would walk in as Buffy was jumping then she'd proabably leave with Dawn. What do you think?

i don't think she would have been anywhere near the site. i think she would have stayed at home, pacing up and down waiting for news that her daughter had once again saved the world...only this time it had cost her her life.

It was such a jumbled situation after "Tough Love" - like would Buffy still have told the gang that they had to run away, and would she have tried to get her mom onto the Winnebago in "Spiral"? And no doubt Joyce would have been frantic if she knew that Glory had taken Dawn.

I think that whole crazy business in the last three episodes would have been different, somehow, if Joyce had been in the picture.

Yeah I think she would have been in the background, possibly not even knowing what was going on. That seemed to be a theme with her on the show lol

Yeah, us over 40 folks just have no clue whatsoever...😉

She'd have been sitting at home, waiting for Buffy. I can see the shot now...she's sitting on the couch, waiting...and Buffy never comes...

I'm not so sure she would have been just sitting waiting for Buffy to save the day. The fifth season was different, it had more of a family feel. I know that was cause of Joyce's illness and eventual death, but I think she would have been helping. At least it would have been interesting to see her reaction to Buffy going almost "Brain-Dead" in the second to last episode.

I imagine if we had seen Joyce's reaction to Buffy's death it would have been the most heartbreaking scene on the show, period. I can't really imagine her doing anything but totally breaking down.

Or she could have done something drastic...hey, I hope it would have been a funny aneurysm!
Quite possibly she could have got her kung-fu on! Or maybe kill herself and put on that mask. Ouch...Joyce-Zombie fury kick spin!

If Joyce hadnt died, Buffy wouldnt have given up like she did when Dawn was taken. (if Dawn was taken. Change one thing, change everything. The butterfly effect)

When Glory took Dawn, it was the last straw for Buffy. She'd been through too much by then already. Riley leaving, her dad abandoning her, her mum dying and now she'd just lost her sister too. So she gave up.

If Joyce hadnt died, chances are they still would have ran away but Buffy probably would have tried to fight back more first. And if Dawn was still taken, she likely would have went straight after her. She wasted a lot of precious time in her catatonic state. Things would have turned out a lot different.

One things for sure though. She would have tried damn hard to make sure her mum was away somewhere safe.

if it was summer's blood that stopped the portal,
i say throw either dawn or joyce over,
and since joyce was already gone, all that was left was dawn.
of course i never liked either of them, so i was hoping buffy stayed out of the way when dawn was being sacrificed, although buffy never stays out of the way.

What a sad thought!! 🙁

But yeah, she'd definately be at home, arranging art pieces to calm her nerves probably

It would have been better if Joyce sacrificed herself...she has Summers blood too. But that would have been sad because I really liked Joyce.

Joyce would have grabbed her handy fire axe, tracked Glory down, and split her skull clear down to her belly button. That's what mommies do when their babies are in danger!

I agree! We've gotta give Joyce some credit.
If Joyce were there I feel it would've changed everything. I'm not even sure Buffy would've jumped. Sure, it seem it would give her even more reason (Dawn would be taken care of) but I think it would've given Buffy more a reason to live. To try something else....what else I do not know.

Im not sure what woulod have happened but Joyce wouldnt have been just at home waiting, she would have been either, some other place where she couldnt be found by Glory or she would have been running with the scoobies So glory wouldnt find her and kill her to get to buffy, but in the end it would have been a completely different ep or even different ending

Joyce couldnt have sacrificed herself anyway. It wasn't Summers' blood that was the key. It was the fact that the monks used Buffy's blood when creating Dawn.

I can see it too. . .
I makes me sad. . .

I definately agree with you, every episode after "The Body" had Joyce still been alive, would have just been. . . off

I dont know, i still say it would have been possible, tis the buffyverse afterall

Mothers throughout time,,,

While I was reading this, I suddenly suddenly remembered something I read years ago that was attributed to another mother whose child had died giving his life for the good of others (you can argue about the "giving his life,,," bit if you want, but I prefer to think of it that way).

When Jim Bowie's mother was told about her son;s death at she Alamo, she was reported to have said, "You can be sure of one thing, There weren't any bullet holes in his back," meaning, of course, that she had no doubts that her son stood to the last, facing the foe and never giving up.(Stood being figurative, of course. Jim died fighting from his death bed)

Also, the mothers of the Spartan warriors were said in legend to have told told their sons and husbands as they went off to battle, "Return with your shield or on it," In other words, "No defeat, no surrender."

Mothers (all family members, for that matter) may grieve for their lost loved ones, but they still feel pride in what they accomplished, and who could not be proud of knowing that their daughter died saving every living thing on the planet?
