Has anyone seen this show? I think it is great, although it is for mature audiences. She plays his girlfriend and is one of the stars of the show. It is on Showtime on Sundays at 9PM Central.

Okay, this thread is not getting NEARLY enough love. So I guess I'll start the hug-fest (*sigh* must I do everything around here?) 😉
I have serious diggage for this show. Off the subject of Benz, I think Michael C. Hall is probably the single best actor on TV right now. Back to Benz: I can not imagine a character being less like Darla. Rita is mousy, put upon, motherly, shy. And Benz nails it. In fact, in the first few episodes she's actually so damn mousy I wanna reach through the screen and slap her just to see if she'd have the balls to slap me back! Of course, her character develops from there, and at the point we first see her character she is still trying to find her feet as an independent woman finally free from her scary abusive husband, so I can understand and forgive the mouse-like tendencies.

I have just been introduced to Dexter, and I love it!
Julie Benz does a great job. It's weird for me to see her playing such a mousy character (you're right; mousy is the word for it). She's nothing like Darla, but of course she has the same face, so half the time I find myself wondering why she doesn't just reach out and eat the b*tchy neighbor with the yappy dog or the drug dealer guy who stole her car.
That doesn't mean I'm not totally buying Rita, though. I just watched the Halloween episode, and J.B.'s acting really touched me. There's a line in which Dexter says "What are you doing?" and Rita replies, "Whatever I want" that really gets to me. I was gonna say "blows me away," but... nah. Anywho -- she's so earnest. She's really trying very hard to get past the abuse and to be a good mom and a fully functional human again. I believe it. I totally believe it. And it breaks my heart, because the poor girl has terrible taste in men. She thinks she's doing the healthy thing and moving on with Dexter... but he's a serial killer and a sociopath who's doing some freaky mom transference thing with her! It's just so sad. Here she is, trying to take a stand and reclaim some semblance of normalcy and sexuality, and I'm watching the whole time going, "Oh honey... you poor thing. You are just so WRONG."
Kudos to J.B., man. She's really tugging at my heart strings.
The show as a whole is incredible. I love, love, love Dexter. I have a thing for sociopathic characters, so the title character has me rooting for him even though I'm completely disgusted by him. I hate that he kills people. I don't want him to do it. I think it's gross. But I love everything else about him. I love the way he thinks. I love that he fakes human emotion and interaction and that he is totally mystified by just about any and every emotional thing. I love the serial killer stalking another serial killer thing. Basically, I love it all. The minor characters are great. The dialogue is great. It's all just great. Yay for Dexter!

I just got turned on to DEXTER myself. Hubby & I have watched seasons 1 & 2 thru Netflix... we're totally hooked. I had no idea that JB was in it until I saw her! - WOOT! -I love seeing Buffy/Angel alumni in other shows. Makes me, oh so nostalgic. 😀
I like JB's character & was pleased when Dexter dumped Lila & got back together with Rita. I really like how Dexter interacts with her kids. Even tho he is "incapable of true feelings." Heh.
I think Dexter is a great show - I love the whole premise... a serial killer who kills "bad people". LOVE IT. I root for Dexter all the way. I hope he never gets caught! ::evil::

I watched because it was free on showtime sampler then I told my mom she should watch it now we both love it. I think it is one of my favorites like out of shows in general. It is more mature but the writing and acting is the best on t.v. right now to me. I cheered when if you watch the Emmy's Michael C hall won. Julie is great on this and I love her. I have watched season 1-3 waiting for season 4 to come on DVD.
@Buffanator like you I enjoy seeing Dexter with the kids. Oh and Lila when I first saw her I was like oh no here we go. It is hard not to root for Dexter IMO 🙂

I've just watched my first episode of this show. I've started with episode 2 season 6 so probably not the best place to start. I'm not a fan though. I think Debra swears way too much, it was really getting on my nerves and I wasnt overly fond of Dexter's voice overs. The storyline in general was a little too dark for me, I like crime shows like CSI, Bones and now Castle 🙂
