Just began watching Angel...

Hey everyone...I'm new to the whole Angel thing.
I was 12 when it started and felt that I'd be betraying Buffy by watching Angel.
But finally...I've been drawn into the world (after reading After the Fall). I just watched "Parting Gifts" Coredlia's pretty awesome....I'm excited to continue this journey. The Buffyverse pretty much rules.

Yeah, I'm just excited that I've begun a new journey with new Buffyverse episodes to watch.

Yeah, Angel is really good. It also constantly references Buffy, what with the crossovers and all...it's great fun. You should watch all the episodes in the order they were aired. Go to this page for a chronologial order list: Crossover Guide
That way, everything fits together as it was meant too, and all the references make sense 🙂

Angel is awesome, even better than Buffy I might say. 😉

But maybe that's because I'm still only watching the second season of Buffy!

I'd be interested in hearing what you think too - I just finished watching all of Angel (I watched all 5 seasons in a month as I was off work looking after my mum after her operation). I thought 1 and 2 were okay, 3 was good, 4 I didn't like very much and 5 was the best. Don't let that effect how you watch them-remember it's just one person's opinon!

For me Buffy is definately better- it's funnier and tighter and the characters have a lot more charm and depth. I never liked Cordy as much in Angel, but Angel himself is a much meatier personality. Also whoever does the lighting - Director of Photography? is a hundred times more talented on Buffy, the people on Angel manage to make really cute people look old and haggard at times!

People say Angel is better because it's darker but I don't think it works- I think Buffy has the balance between drama and humour perfectly, any more darkness and the humour seems out of place and you can't take the drama seriously.

But like I said just one person's view. There'll be gazzillions of people here who disagree!

4 sucked except the last four episodes were great....

Oh my. You have to watch Angel, if not only for the awesome Buffy crossovers. And believe me - Cordelia gets way cooler, I promise. 🙂 She matures and grows alot as a character.

Yups, you must watch Angel. I'm not a big fan of Cordy myself, though I did love her with Xander, but there are other awesome characters in Angel that more than make up for her. Plus I think she got better in Angel as opposed to Buffy. But you get to see Wesley again, and this time he's way cooler. 😉 Faith shows up and is awesome, Angel's always awesome, you get to meet Fred, and she's just amazingly awesomely wonderful... 😉 Yeah. Watch the show. 😀 It's got great moments, plus it gave us Bangels "I Will Remember You"!!

I was actually looking forward to watching Angel ever since I discovered that it existed, as I was a huge fan of Angel himself, so I figured that anything revolving around him had to be worth my while. 😉

That's interesting. What did you dislike about it?

The fact it had Spike...virtually no arc...a vast assortment of terrible stand-alones...two laughably poorly done deaths...Illyria, who was the most uninspired character ever and made me feel like I was watching Star Trek or something...and only one good episode the whole season.

I hate Spike in general, and they allowed him to steal the show in season 5 of Angel just like they let him in the last two seasons of BTVS.

I'm sorry, but...what? How were Cordelia, Fred, and Wesley's deaths poorly done? I thought they were all incredibly well-done, aside from the fact that Cordelia could have used a little more closure.

Cordelia's was well-done, of course...

I just thought season 5 was too poorly done aside from You're Welcome to promote any type of emotional investment. I found Fred's death drawn-out and dull, and I found Wesley's to be flat-out hilarious at how casually they were just killing off a regular since the first season. And Illyria doing the Fred impersonation was just too funny...the show could never be taken seriously again after they introduced Illyria...that was just a flat-out awful idea.
