I read a funny reference in a fanfic just now, a small mistake the writers didn't really think about;

“We looked everywhere!” Xander griped as Giles dug in his pocket for the key. “She’s not at the Bronze or Angel’s or that one dock that we have even though we’re in the middle of the desert…”

:thought:

Haha, that's funny. I never even thought about it. And what a great Xander thing to say in that fanfic.

I guess I just don't think about those things after watching almost 20 years of Simpsons--that town has everything. We constantly laugh about it.

Then again, I assumed they lived near the coast.

Sunnydale is very landlocked, in fact is surrounded by desert in every direction as far as the eye can see.

Sooooo yes the writer has either on something or just makes lame jokes for a living.

That is true--I thought about it when you see the very last scene of the series with a big hole in the ground. I guess I just never thought of it while watching the show and assumed they were near water. That just makes it funny. Maybe it is a magical dock. It is the Hellmouth, after all.

Well, it is So-Cal. I live in Pasadena. On the other side of the mountains that I can see through my dining room window, there's a desert. In the opposite direction, out by where my husband works, there's an ocean. It didn't surprise me at all that they lived in a desert and yet had easy access to a dock of some sort. That's the magic of Southern California. I was able to suspend my disbelief a bit and just assume that the dock was outside of town, but still easily accessible enough by car. Besides, Sunnydale is on a Hellmouth. Weird things are bound to happen. All weirdo discrepancies like that, can, in my mind, be explained as part of the same phenomenon that allows vampires and other monsters to roam the streets. Alternatively, you could go with the explanation offered in "Normal Again!"
