Honestly, I've felt what Jo's talking about too. It's gotten to the point that I visit Drogyn, and that's pretty much it. I don't venture out into the other forums, and I don't read other things on here because I don't like how people are being treated.

I don't like how I'm being treated either.

I don't like how you are being treated and I don't like how some members are being treated either. I feel like you guys get fed up because you deal with/see more than we do and after awhile you just snap. You seemed to be frustrated when you commented on that game thread and I felt like you could have approached the situation in a different way, but I understand why you responded the way you did because you were just tired of...everything.

I get it. That's how I felt today. I was a bit rude, and I apologize. We're all a little frustrated because you guys feel as if you can't win because everyone acts as if you're attacking us, and some of us feel like we can't win because you guys seem to get ticked off kind of easily when we critique stuff. It totally makes sense though. You work so hard and sometimes you probably think, "What is the point?? They don't seem to appreciate what we do anyway." This thread is helping though, I think. We all just need to get our feelings out in the open. I truly feel as if most members don't realize they're being rude when they post/ask things without reading the FAQ and you guys are not trying to sound like bullies or anything like that. You just have to put up with a lot of sh-guff and after a while you feel like enough is enough, am I right? This is all just kind of speculation.

Your job is tough and you're great it. All of you. You keep this site so organized and I really do appreciate everything. I was not trying to be insensitive earlier, I was just kind of peeved. I try to see things from your guy's perspectives all the time, which is why I usually don't get involved in that stuff. I want this to be a place where people can escape after a long day or when they just want to talk about their favorite show(s) in a nice, welcoming environment. I don't want people to feel as if they can't voice their opinion for fear of getting jumped all over and I do not want you guys to hate being mods/admins. I truly just want everyone to be happy.

Ugh that's insanely cheesy but I'm an incredibly sensitive person and I mean it!

🙂

You work so hard and sometimes you probably think, "What is the point??"

I think that pretty much every day now. 🙁

I want this to be a place where people can escape after a long day or when they just want to talk about their favorite show(s) in a nice, welcoming environment.

That's what I want too but it hasn't been that way for me for a very long time.

I havent been on the boards much lately, so I havent really seen much of the drama, but coming back to this and a few other threads it just feels like Darla cant do a thing right to keep people happy.

Everyone is in the wrong sometimes, but people seem to be on a mission to prove that Darla is doing everything wrong, thats not true and its not fair. Im sorry there are a few members that insist on whinging about every little thing.

I dont like it either 🙁 i think its foul & i think the ppl who constantly do this should be ashamed for how rude & ungrateful they are.

Ppl need to leave you alone, seriously. & if they dont like it here or if they think everything you do is wrong, they should just leave.

A to the ****ing MEN.
Can I just say that from where I'm at this boards is pretty much the greatest thing ever. I think people are extremly friendly and helpful and fun to be around and I haven't noticed a morale decline. Just people that are rude sometimes, but the majority of what I see is GREAT. I really, really love this board and I think both the staff and the members in general is awesome. That's My opinion on this.

I agree. Overall, I think this is a pretty fantastic forum. However, if the admins/mods are unhappy, that isn't good because then it leads to them being on edge which leads to misunderstandings which leads to a 9 page discussion about the new layout...haha.

I feel like the board staff is taking their "position" as if they were God's on their high horses and pretty much telling us we are measly shits.

Again, it's not all, but a large number.

Okay, I wasn't going to say anything - because I didn't want to stir the pot so to speak - but after seeing a lot of strong "we have the right to share our opinions" in another thread I thought, hey that should go for mods to (though we often do try to limit our own personal view when stepping into board matters in the interest of the boards best rather than our personal best)

What I have to say to this statement above is - how can we not, every single mod, be insulted by it? You say not all, fine, but being a mod I do feel targeted and I'm sure that the rest feel similarly.

I would also like to wonder when we act as if we were Gods and you measly underlings? The imagery is unflattering and incorrect in my opinion. We will step in when necessary, does things sometimes get out of hand? Sure probably do but then we're not robots either and as has been so succinctly put in other threads, the members feel they have the right to air their candid opinion. Well guess what? Often we don't. We talk it over, sometimes we lash out unintentionally agreed and that may be unfortunate but apologies will follow or the matter will be handed over to another - less personally invested - mod. As mods we generally don't run around and rule this place without there being a group consensus.

I restrain myself a lot for the interest of trying to remain neutral here, I take being a mod seriously, I'm not out to get anyone, for the boards sake and for my respect for Darla I try to make this board a friendly place towards all members. Sometimes that means stepping on the toes on a few individuals who like to think that their opinions should be heard, tolerated and respected above the rest. I'm sorry but we don't cater to the one with the biggest mouth, as a group we serve the whole boards, because at the end of the day we love this place and we were chosen to be mods in part because of that.

So Jo, though I consider you a friend, I think that your statement above was hostile and I feel more than a little saddened by it. I do not consider myself a God above the members, but I do think that rules need to be reinforced (especially as you yourself pointed out many don't even bother with reading our faq) and if that feels as if we're lording over you then I'm sorry but rules are rules and for everyone to follow

I have to say I must be having a big blind moment. I know I do not read through every thread on BB but I've not seen the team here (staff) attack anyone or throw their weight around without good reason to. ??? Sometimes we (general members) do not get to see the full story of what goes on when the team have to deal with situations that arise and we only see small clips of what goes on. So sometimes it's best to try and stay out of situations that occur as we don't have the full picture or both sides to stories. Also, in my experience (this is all only my opinion) bullying is taken very seriously on the boards when it is reported and is not handled lightly but with full investigation and discussion.

It might seem like a big suck up to some members but that does not bother me as I think the staff as a whole team do a great job here.

I know this probably isn’t my place so feel free to tell me to butt out 😛 Obviously I can’t say I know what it’s like to be staff on BB but I just wanna say I don’t think all members fully appreciate what it means to be staff sometimes. Especially on a board of this size. These people have to put so much work in that is mostly behind the scenes so we can’t see how much they’re doing. All the technical mumbojumbo, dealing with problem members and hurt feelings (more often than not being stuck between a rock and a hard place in these sticky situations), making gorgeous board schemes, coming up with fun activities for us to take part in, setting up and designing the board, and although I don’t know the financial situation for BB, I assume paying for it too. And that’s just the start! All the while dealing with any abuse that comes their way and being expected to do it in a polite manner and mask their true feelings no matter how hurt they are. I’m not saying all members don’t appreciate it, but I feel some could take a few seconds when considering that rude remark or angry reply to an argument thread and think about the effort that is put in to make the boards a lovely place and how easily all their efforts can be torn down with negativity. And if we want to continue to enjoy the boards, an effort has to be made on all sides to stay respectful. There are so many people on this board and when they do something, not everyone is going to be happy but at the end of the day I truly believe decisions the staff make on the board are intended to better our enjoyment of the board.

That being said, I agree with Miki on the fact that I’m not feeling the negativity as much as some. I am quite happy on this board and love visiting daily and getting involved!

I pretty much said something similar in the other thread but if you notice we keep on having the same argument over different situations. It is not about the layout or any other changes that are made to the boards.

The thing people seem to be focussing on most is how the staff are dealing with members. I can't speak for everyone but it reached breaking point for myself. I couldn't tell you how many years i've been doing this and keeping my own opinions silent and biting my toungue when a member called me something that in reality would get them my left hook.

What you are seeing is the breaking point, the nicey nicey approach has been tried, the reasoning has been tried so yes we have ended up speaking to people exactly how we have been spoken to, and treated how we have been treated. If you don't like it, then perhaps don't treat others in that manner?

It is a case of swings and roundabouts. We go through the same thing every 4 months or so because it never really gets addressed properly. One fraction take the approach of 'the staff are upthemselves control freaks' then on the other side you have the staff and then there are the people stuck in the middle. I've seen it countless times over the years.

I do agree somewhat with the OP. I've noticed a lot of bluntness on here over the past few months that does put me off of posting or asking things. Although saying that, the one time I did have a question it was dealt with nicely and politely and I am thankful for that.

I understand that it must be frustrating being a mod sometimes and having people not being the nicest, I definitely think you should stand your ground, but the tone of some of the posts on here sounds a bit like that's the default setting. Of course I don't know what happens behind the scenes either, but allowing it to spill over onto the main board might not be the greatest thing ever.

But saying that, it's definitely not only a mod thing. There are some members here who have the same tone and for me anyway it's made the place more hostile and made me frequent other sites more.

That's my two pennies' worth anyway.

It's taken a while to compose this message, and I have a few things I'd like to say...

I definitely agree with the OP. I think Joann phrased it well as well.
I do find it difficult to interact with a couple of the admins/mods...and there are some that I completely adore, and then again, some that I never see posting etc.

I do want to reiterate that although there are a couple of admins/mods I rarely agree with (not in terms of what they do, but in terms of their approach to doing it) I do respect them, and understand that people have different ways of interacting.

I also understand that you say we don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but I'd say that's true for the staff too you also don't know what goes on, I have made some wonderful friends over my time on the boards, and when those friends are upset, and tell you things such as they're thinking of leaving the boards, or they feel victimised, it does cloud your judgment of situations.

I definitely say what I feel, and I know that can annoy some people. I'm also of the attitude that once a topic's done and ended, then that should be the last of it, you shouldn't hold grudges. There are people here I've had awful arguments with, but there's no one I could genuinely say that I dislike.

I do sometimes feel like it's one rule for one person, and another for another person though, which can be frustrating.

I also feel like both members and staff can be waaay too sensitive. I know not everyone likes me around here...and that's cool. You don't have to. I'm not gonna get all upset about it, it's part of life, but like I say, if people could just leave stuff be after a thread has been closed, I think it'd be much easier.

It's also kinda sad when people feel scared to post, for fear of being rebuked or even banned by the staff, if they disagree with them. I've certainly thought I was going to be banned before after a disagreement with an admin.

I'm not saying this in order to get out of anything, but I really do feel that we should just let bygones be bygones, however I don't think that can be achieved if BOTH the staff and members don't chill out a little.

Also...I'd really like to see a clarification of the BB roles. You say we don't know what goes on behind the scenes...without naming names, and being as vague as you like...why don't you tell us? We can't be expected to just know you've had a crappy day. I think a lot more people would be sympathetic if you could give us a vague outline.

does it ever occurr to you that they may find it difficult to interact w/ you or other members? that some of them may have become almost RELUCTANT to even come on the board b/c members find any & every reason to complain & dump in the name of "sharing their opinion?"

I definitely say what I feel, and I know that can annoy some people. I'm also of the attitude that once a topic's done and ended, then that should be the last of it, you shouldn't hold grudges.

so you think you can say what you want AND dictate a person's response to it? real easy to say others should do when you're not the one on the receiving end of all the BS. @ one point there were 3 different threads dedicated to dumping on Darla for the board layout change ALONE. how is she NOT supposed to take that personally?

members on here whine about EVERY damn thing..."oh i have the right to voice my opinion"...voicing one's opinion is far different than whining & bitching about everything from color schemes to game thread approval (not being done in the time frame the person thinks it should) & any other trivial things that i've seen come up here before.

if I was a mod....a whole lotta ppl would be booted b/c in the end...this is a board...not a job...& i wouldnt want to be made to feel like i couldnt be @ a board I work hard to maintain only to find myself being attacked, criticized & bashed for every single thing i do or don't.

opinions are fine but in the end, what the staff deems acceptable is what goes.

As one of the members who have been around longer, I feel it's important for me to step up and say that I've never seen a member of the staff ban someone simply for voicing their opinion or disagreeing with them so I don't understand where people are getting that idea from. The only thing that's come even close was when BB needed an outright cool down period a few years ago. It's not as if any banning decision is made off the cuff.

The thing about talking to your friends, though, is that 99% of the time when people get in trouble or get into it with a staffer around here, they refuse to admit they did anything to warrent getting reprimanded. That's why it sucks because the members get one side of the story; they don't see what goes on in the PMs and stuff. Having been on both sides of it, I can tell you there is a massive amount of discussion behind the scenes as to how to deal with certain situations on the board; I was totally surprised to see how much the members don't get to see when I first became a mod. And you'd probably be shocked to your core to see the amount of nastiness the staff puts up with around here. People may say they were perfectly nice about a situation, when in reality, they were anything but.

I definitely say what I feel, and I know that can annoy some people. I'm also of the attitude that once a topic's done and ended, then that should be the last of it, you shouldn't hold grudges. There are people here I've had awful arguments with, but there's no one I could genuinely say that I dislike.
There's nothing wrong with saying how you feel, but it's HOW you say it. That's the point we've been trying to reiterate over and over around here. If you're nice to us, we'll be nice to you. But if you're overly blunt and rude in how you post, we're all to the point where we just can't be nice back all the time.

I do sometimes feel like it's one rule for one person, and another for another person though, which can be frustrating.
I can definitely agree with you that it can seem that way at times. However, it goes back again to what goes on behind the scenes and how things are being dealt with. Sometimes it may look to everyone that we haven't done anything to reprimand someone who's out of line, but in reality, there may be a war going on through PMs or something. And sometimes there is a lot of discussion between the entire staff on how to handle something, so as not to treat someone unfairly.

I also feel like both members and staff can be waaay too sensitive. I know not everyone likes me around here...and that's cool. You don't have to. I'm not gonna get all upset about it, it's part of life, but like I say, if people could just leave stuff be after a thread has been closed, I think it'd be much easier.
It's kinda hard for some people to just let stuff go, especially if they continually butt heads with someone. However, you are right that a person's dislike of another shouldn't interfere with their ability to do a job. I have had to learn this, myself, and have learned that sometimes it's best to let another staffer handle things if you can't do it without bias. However, sometimes other staffers might not be available, and you may have to handle something that brings out the worst in you. We're only human, and we don't and can't handle every single situation with grace and humility.

It's also kinda sad when people feel scared to post, for fear of being rebuked or even banned by the staff, if they disagree with them. I've certainly thought I was going to be banned before after a disagreement with an admin.
As I've said to many others over the past 24 hours, you should never feel scared to post. However, if you post something and think "This is gonna piss some people off", it might be worth rereading to see if you can word it in a more civil manner. If you don't care about pissing people off, there's obviously a problem somewhere.

I'm not saying this in order to get out of anything, but I really do feel that we should just let bygones be bygones, however I don't think that can be achieved if BOTH the staff and members don't chill out a little.
I agree; we all need to take a breather and step away from the situation a little bit. But I also think certain members need to own up to their own mistakes a little more, too. The staff has admitted several times that we know we're not perfect, and we know we could handle things a lot better sometimes. But I notice a lot of finger-pointing from some members here who could definitely stand to take a look at themselves, too.

We had a thread a while back that we posted vague accounts of things we were doing behind the scenes. We would say things like "Discussed member concerns with a member" or things like that, so people could get a feel of how much work goes into this board behind the scenes. Maybe we could do another thread like this, but we definitely have to keep things vague so as not to violate trust and privacy issues.
I, myself, just want everyone to understand that all this animosity has been building for a while. The staff is tired of getting treated like crap by members who have no respect for the rules of this board and the job we do to enforce them. I know the members are frustrated with a lot of things, too, though, but fail to realize that we ARE trying to work on things and make it better around here. It's just hard when people refuse to take responsibility for their actions.

Of course it does. I'm sure some of them do...what I said then wasn't a criticism...I don't know why you're taking it as such.

so you think you can say what you want AND dictate a person's response to it? real easy to say others should do when you're not the one on the receiving end of all the BS.

I have never dictated anyone's response...people can respond with anything they want...I really don't understand why you're getting so annoyed over my post, hahaha! I think I should be able to say what I want (with the obvious exceptions...) and the staff/members should be able to respond in kind. I just don't think it should go on and on. "I think" is me expressing my opinion, not me saying "THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD BE". It's just what I THINK. I'm aware others think differently...they're well within their rights to. There's nothing dictatory about that.

members on here whine about EVERY damn thing..."oh i have the right to voice my opinion"...voicing one's opinion is far different than whining & bitching about everything from color schemes to game thread approval (not being done in the time frame the person thinks it should) & any other trivial things that i've seen come up here before.

I don't genuinely find many of the members whiny...and we should be, and are, as far as I'm aware, allowed to express opinions. That should be a moot point.

Before you jump on me...I was one of the many who said how much I loved the new theme. If I didn't like it, I simply wouldn't have posted, as has happened in the past.

Just want to say, thanks @HisMrs for your polite and measured response. I have nothing to add to it, since I agree.

You're very welcome. I wanted to make sure I addressed everything without being rude, to show people that it IS possible for us mean, horrible staffers to respond to someone nicely. 😉
