I'm offended!
I don't really like reddit (I found this while googling something else Buffy related), but I'm super (reasonably) offended by this. We talk so much Buffy! We love Buffy! An off-topic community?! Ha!

Also, tumblr isn't a good place for Buffy discussions and it's mostly focused on specific characters and ships (from my experience so far, at the very least). I've read some opinions/rants on Buffy on LJ, but it's hard to find anything there and it seems to be very Spike and Spuffy centric.

What a daft comment. I can't comment on what the other places are like since I don't use them but obviously there's plenty of Buffy talk on here. I would say the off topic stuff is just a by-product of this being a good environment so that when you've got Buffy burnout you're happy to discuss other things.

That's where I'm at for the time being. I've been here for a couple of years and have talked quite extensively about different Buffy issues so I tend to have more to say on off topic bits at the moment. When a new comic is out though or if a Buffy thread catches my eye I'll go back to it. The veterans around here must have been through this cycle a few times!
 
I assume other forums were listed too. I'm not a member of anywhere else, but I chose this place purely because it seemed to talk more 'Buffy' than OT compared to the others I found. 🙂

I know at the very least 1 other forum that's active enough and talks Buffy (and I sometimes check them out), but BB seems to be the most active (and organized) forum. Also, I've noticed that some forums have a general consensus about certain things, like: Buffy is better than Angel, this ship is the best one, that season is the best one, but people here have diverging opinions and one person's opinion is never considered the best or the smartest one.

Seriously, there are some smaller forums where most users know each other and share similar opinions.
Like in Critically Touched (CT), most people: think Buffy S5 is the best Buffy season, believe Buffy to be the best character, think Angel only has a couple of decent seasons, completely dismiss everyone who defends Bangel as a ship, because it's implied to be a lower opinion (and they seem to like Spuffy), etc... I mean, they don't have the exact same opinions, but the creator of the forum reviews the Buffy episodes and they all more or less agree with it. I find it an intimidating, slightly snobbish place.
The other popular Buffy forum seems to prefer Spuffy from what I gathered. And LJ is very partial to Spuffy from my experience. Spuffy and Tillow are definitely the most popular ships and tbh Bangel fans aren't very loud. Tumblr is one of the most Bangel friendly places I know (there's enough there to please every shipper). I really get this feeling from other forums (not all) that if you like Bangel (regardless of what you think of Spuffy), then your opinion isn't as relevant, because it's not 'intellectual' enough. And I don't get that idea here on the BB. It's a friendlier place. But maybe I'm projecting a bit...

And yeah, there probably is a Spuffy only forum. There's a Bangel one (Blood Roses Community :: Index).

Oh, it's definitely not just a Bangel issue. There are lots of places where Spuffy is considered an unspeakable abomination, to be purged :)
Well, I do think a lot of the Buffy fandom had moved away from forums and livejournal to tumblr; but that's because people have just tired of talking Buffy. Tumblr doesn't really have any discussions, it's just rebloging and liking pictures and gifs. I guess times have just changed.

But the note about BuffyBoards having very little Buffy talk is silly and flat out wrong.

this could be a demonstration of the shorter attention span among milleniels, excluding any on this forum. Why read and think and type and discuss when you can look at the pretty pictures.

I do think that's a big part of it.
BB is off topic ??? I agree to disagree as this is the most Buffy related site on the internet that's still active and has discussions going on about the show itself on a daily basis.

Because looking at pictures all day without having a discussion about the show itself can get boring 😛

On top of that, some of the people on Tumblr scare me.

You guys are harsh on the 'millennials'. I didn't like Tumblr until I discovered something that I wanted to see there. Tumblr is a good way to: share iconic/funny/sweet moments of BtVS and AtS in gif form, celebrate characters and ships (the appreciation months for example), rant from time to time. It's a good way to keep the show alive. Just because someone likes to look at the pretty pictures on Tumblr, it doesn't mean that they're not capable of anything else. Besides, not everyone is devoted enough to the fandom to want to discuss it. And that's fine. Doesn't say anything about the millennials attention span or intellect.
